According to a friend MSS has installed new VP machines at the Boar's Head bar. Supposedly the paytables remain the same.

I really hope they are not those oversize ones like they have at DTG and Aliante, that come up with advertizing etc in the middle of a game.

EDIT: Only machines 1-5 were changed out so far and they are not the oversized ones, but my bartender friend says they have more game options.

Probably the same machines they just installed at the Sam's town bar (another Boyd casino). They installed two types at the bar there, one type has about 50 different VP games on it, (Ultimate X, 3/5/10 play, Spin Poker, Slot games, etc, you name it) nice clear flat screens. 2/3 of the machines were upgraded there when I looked. The slot card readers face out though instead of up, which I didn't like, as prying eyes can more easily see your points/etc. There was no advertising on the ones there.

Now that you mention the card reader it reminds me, I have very hard time reading the ones that face up. I end up standing on the rungs of the barstool to get up enough to read it. If these are easier to read it will be an improvement in my mind (as long the pay table stays the same).

I played there a few days ago. Are 1-5 the ones on the far left (if looking at the bar)? If so, i did notice that these spots had new, bigger looking screens. They were empty and i did not think to check them out for the paytables/games/etc :/

Yes, 1-5 are left side if you are facing the bar. Near the CW station. BTW machine #16 is at the right end of the bar. I've hit a Royal at every one of them but 13, 14 & 15. I try not to play at that end because the AC just blows so hard that way. It's freezing, even in winter.

Ok, now you are just bragging. :nworthy:

Seriously, it's about time they upgraded some of these VP machines. The 90s are calling and they want their VP machines back....

If I were a betting man :) I'd wager they're the same new machines I saw at the Mardi Gras bar in the Orleans in May - probably all over by now. While the odds of winning haven't changed, at least the machines look nicer and it's easy to see your points when inserting your player's card. In fact, the running total is clearly displayed as you go.

(Still trying to put together a trip for next month.)

They desperately need to change out some of the VP machines on the floor. One is so grainy you can barely differentiate between the red and black cards.

Glad I'm not the only one that found it awkward to read the points or to confirm that it read your card. Might get dicey after too many Black Chip Porters.

All is well. The new Super Star poker machines have the same pay tables: 9/6 JOB, 9/7/5 DB, and 8/5 DDB progressive. They also play a wide selection of novelty and non-poker games. They have a new service light that the bartender suggested we use when we won are first scratcher. It doesn't seem to be connected to anything, but it gets the bartender's attention and he then calls the tech.

On an unrelated note, the Boars Head Bar used to serve a beautiful Bloody Mary in a parfait glass. This morning I got a standard rocks tumbler with one stirrer which I had to work to mix the two layers in the glass. I no longer have a favorite downtown Mary.

I'm excited about these new machines. Any word if the super times pay, ultimate x or spin poker are available at less than 25¢?

There are very few casinos where I've found these type of bartops for less than 25c for any game. Mostly outside of Vegas. Bellagio is the only place in Vegas I've seen Spin Poker for nickels at a bartop. But I hope your wish comes true! Also hoping that STP might have 9/6 DDB like machines on the floor (doubtful). And too bad these aren't All Star IIs, I like Double STP.

Wait...they changed DDB to 8/5? It used to be 9/5 at MSS at the bar. 9/6 at the bars at Cal.

EDIT: Oh, maybe that is the quarter paytable, I only play dollars at the bar.

Regarding your BM...they didn't toss it using the metal tumbler? You have a bartender name, because that certainly is odd.

Yeah. But I'm a little confused on why they would downgrade the progressive and not anything else. I'll change it on the list for now. I'm sorta hoping that Full Pay misread or typo'ed here though. But I'm doubting it...

I just recently started playing DDB so I didn't realize that it was a downgrade. Any time I can get comparable odds I play DDB over DB, so I am pretty sure I read it as 8/5. These were all 25 cent pay tables, I didn't check the dollars. And most of the novelty games were three or five play with no option to lower the denomination below 25 cents.

Bartender was Oleg, he's worked there for a while. Maybe when they did away with the parfait glass he changed his technique. But even plastic cup places pour the mix back and forth a few times.

Looking forward to playing at the Boars Head Bar on my Sept. trip. I have always just played on the floor in the past, but looking to add bartop play this next trip. Also looking forward to the Black Chip Porters!

DDB was definitely 9/5 for 25 cents at Boars Head. If they lowered that to 8/5, I wont be playing at the bar anymore. That does not make me happy.
