    Hey all:

Coming to LV for our 10th anniversary in a little over 3 weeks...can't wait!! Wanted to get some feedback on dining.

We normally stay V/P and do the usuals there - a steakhouse, bouchon, Grand Lux, etc....we'll hit up Bacchanal if we're feeling glutonous and then food courts and the like when we're looking to save some cash or had a bad gambling day!

For this trip I want to do something totally different and go for an experience dinner. (I know this means paying for the ambience or experience and less for the meal itself)....the two that stuck out at me which we've never done is Eiffel Tower or Top of the World. I currently have a reservation at TOW and have arranged for my wife to be surprised with an anniversary gift during the meal. However in reading some reviews, I'm seeing some real mixed opinions on this restaurant.

Was wondering if this is a big mistake or if dinner there would be worth the time and money. Like I said, I know there are "better" restaurants available, so I'm not necessarily looking solely at food, but just for overall experience. If you don't recommend it, any alternative suggestions?

    Any feedback appreciated.

    Thanks!

Top of the World is interesting. From a food perspective, it's really not great. It sort of "took off" when it first opened and for several years afterward, but that's prior to the super fine dining/celebrity chef craze that is Vegas today.

From an ambience perspective, the view is certainly magnificent.

What kills it for me, is the Stratosphere . There is absolutely nothing about the casino/hotel that in anyway could be construed as romantic or worthy of a celebratory event (save for maybe a 21st birthday, and I'm being generous with that).

If you chose to get a little dressy for your anniversary dinner, you'll stick out like a sore thumb and be sorely disappointed that the typical attire includes men in tank tops, shorts and fanny packs. Not exactly sexy.

As a girl, and what a sweet thing you're planning for your wife, the whole experience is important. And I worry that TOWs whole experience will be a let down.

Eiffel Tower is a MUCH better choice, if it's only between these two. They have cute tables for two, right on the glass, where you sort of sit next to each other, similar to how you'd sit at a bar, but it doesn't feel like that, it just feels "close". Of course, your view will be amazing and the food, I think, is certainly better than "TOW".

    Others to consider:

*Prime at Bellagio (fountain view table, lovely food)
*Picasso at Bellagio (gorgeous interior with, you guessed it, Picasso's, also beautiful views of the fountains)
*Mon Ami Gabi at Paris (patio table, if it's cool enough, right on the rails to enjoy the fountains)
*SW at Wynn (beautiful setting with "show", fabulous food)

No matter what you decide, I hope your trip and dinner is fantastic! Happy Anniversary!

I can't tell you about the food, but I did stop by for happy hour a few months ago. Half priced drinks and the same beautiful view. Without the spin I feel I should add. The bar area is above the restaurant in the same open space.

Ate there last thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience. Even though the place spins so slowly wife and I ended up with a small case of motion sickness and ended up not enjoying the food. By the time dessert came we couldn't leave fast enough. Neat place, great staff, but can't really give an unbiased review of the food.

Definitely have to agree with Mrs. Furi about the "Rest of the Stratosphere" description. Nothing to talk about.

You may have read my scathing review, lol. I've been there twice for dinner and it was good, not great. Went there for lunch once and it was unbelievably awful. I would recommend Eiffel Tower. If you "friend" them on Facebook, you can get the managers email and make a reservation thru him. You will get window side table, special tablecloth and rose petals!

Top of The World is my wife's favorite LV restaurant when she wants a romantic dinner. Get a sunset reservation and it's awesome watching the light change. We've always had outstanding food and service there. And, the deserts are amazing.

That's been our stance: The revolving part is high tourist-town kitsch, the lights are pretty and the food and service somewhere right down the middle.

ET, Alize, LeCirque are all options.

Thanks for the responses all. The closer I get to the trip the more anxious I started to feel about this particular part of the plan, so I wanted to get some feedback.

MrsFuri raised a lot of the concerns I stated to have, and following your reports it seems like my wife and I have similar tastes to you and your hubby. While I think the view would be great, maybe it would be wiser to simply hit it up for happy hour if we really just want to experience the view.

I might have to reconsider this particular plan. Thanks again all!!

"Romantic" and "special" obviously mean different things to each of us. View or outward setting can be a big factor, but for my wife and me, that's an attribute that doesn't carry the day over other more important attributes. Some of our most memorable or special remembrances are places that just felt right, whether account-busting or not. A packed noisy little bistro in Seattle, a restaurant barfront on an oops, no-reservations NYE in Vegas, fish/chips wrapped in the day's paper on the far side of Wellington Harbor, whenever we go to Bouchon in Yountville ...

Great observation. I would agree with you, and now that you mention it the same applies to our Vegas experiences too. Some of those little places we just stop randomly and experience remain some of our most cherished. We don't smoke and never have, but the Hookah bar on north end passed Encore remains one of our favorite places because we just happened upon it one night and remains one of our best memories. Similarly, some of the little hole in the wall bars and restaurants here locally.

I'm beginning to think that if I kept the reservation at ToW I would be trying too hard to make something be what it simply isn't. And the night (while still likely enjoyable) would just go down in history as one of those experiences that won't really stand out as anything other than a disappointment.

    Thanks again!!

    It is worth doing once.

When I took my wife on her first trip to LV in 2013, we went to the TOTW for dinner one night. We stopped at the lounge for (2) pre-dinner drinks (each) and there were lots of people enjoying the HH specials for their whole meal experience (possible pro-tip). We sat right by the window (I had asked for that on my reservation.) and enjoyed a shared appetizer, two nice steaks, one shared dessert, and a nice bottle of red wine. The "all in" total for that was about $280 and I think I tipped about $70 on top of that. I do not regret that we ate there. The food was good and the service was good+. However, I will not do that again. Drinks at the lounge are a possibility, but for a full-meal-deal, there are too many other places with great food and great service. It was worth doing once but our next celebratory meal will be at SW or Charlie Palmer.
