Last trip I went to see my host on the morning before my flight home and she comped off more food, beverage, and pool expense than I expected she would. No big deal, just a good result. On the way home, though, I realized that at the time I went to see her I had much more in outstanding markers from the trip that I usually do, and I hadn't yet gone by the cage to settle up. Think there's some relation there?

I've never given the impression that I'd late pay or default on a marker. In fact, I always pay at the end of the trip instead of taking advantage of the 30 days that I have to pay at my casino. But I'm not sure I'd ever done the last-day host visit before I paid my markers off. She can certainly see those outstanding markers when she looks up my play, and aren't hosts sort of indirectly on the hook for outstanding debt, in the sense that they don't want to be giving free stuff to someone who doesn't pay up?

All in all, it wouldn't surprise me if hosts were a bit nicer to people who still owed money. I think I'll make a habit in the future of seeing my host before I pay the bills.

Makes no difference. Your host is still looking at your theo.

it makes a LITTLE difference...but unless your markers are in the 5 digit range, they could care less...
At the 5 digit marker level, if you had it "all out", (and you had a good history of paying it back) then they might be lenient in giving more comps (because they "think" you lost)
Sounds like a decent little advantage play maybe...

I don't think it makes any difference. Comps are based on theo.

It's a factor. If you have a credit line then they know a big loss is possible.

Theo is theo is theo. Or ADT or whatever measurement you want to use.

BUT - the host may have some discretion or latitude. Other factors could sway things a little I suppose. But, the casino makes no money off your marker.

no, whether or not you already paid has no bearing on anything.

the hosts are not on the hook for your paying or not paying.

of course, how much you lost definitely has a bearing on how generous she will be.

    they don't "think" anything.

the computer tells them exactly how much you lost or won.

and if you lost $0 and had 5 figures in markers out,

it would have the exact opposite effect you're hoping for.

they would ask where the money went

and likely get upset if your answer wasn't sufficient.

and the cage would drop the markers in a couple of days if you left without paying them off

regardless of your normal 30 day grace period.

I think you caught a break from your host...when your host saw the outstanding markers, her inference COULD have been you lost....therefore, she comped more off your tab...I've been told by casino cage personnel, that they notate whether a marker is paid back by chips or cash or combination, with emphasis on how much cash....whether paying off your marker in cash, even on winning sessions, makes a substantial difference in any perks/comps is debatable, but I believe it doesn't hurt to have the system show you paid off the markers with cash, as opposed to chips....obviously, if you had a substantial winning session(s), you're going to buy back your markers in chips...

Your host sees outstanding markers as well as your win loss. I've been asked by my host if I was holding chips since I had a bunch of outstanding markers, but also had a few winning sessions. For me, I end up holding chps if I leave a table and my marker has already left the pit or I am short chips to buy back my markers.
Credit line is not always an indication of play. I'm sure lots of people have credit lines bigger than their play. Maybe it's the same logic of someone buying in for $5k cash, but only making a few small bets......do they think they are fooling anyone?.

Well said. Many fools try to fool them. Other less fools at least know the game and play by those rules. (no play days for example, or not using card on low play days)

They expect the markers to be paid. they know how much you won or lost. It makes no difference with regards to comps.
