I wont have to wait long after I move to Vegas before I get a new team.

They got the go ahead from the board of govs. LV is lightyears ahead of any other city. They already have 13000+ commitments from a ticket drive earlier this year, a privately funded arena is already under construction, itching for a pro team, an owner who can write a 500M check for expansion, and a city with plenty of structure to hold any crowd, from hotel, restaurants, airport, transportation.

2017-18 has been insinuated from Foley (potential lv owner) after initial talks with Bettman in Februray as the inaugural season.

Mark my words, this is a lock.

Pretty cool..Wonder what the team name will be and if books will take action on them? Was the no wagering on UNLV because they were a state college and not a pro franchise?

Aces and Silver Miners are the possible names I've heard. I think the books will take action, unless there's some kind of law prohibiting it (I don't think there is).

This type of prop is assuredly illegal.

Ha, I meant betting on the games in general, not betting on the name of the team.

LOL! Well... I don't suppose betting on a local team is illegal.

I know it's a pipe-dream, but that stadium going up right behind Monte Carlo would be an awesome place for the team to play. There'd be a packed house every night during the season. Besides that... Stanley Cup Finals right on the strip? That would be a dream come true!

But I thought that's precisely where they have their 13,000+ season ticket commitments. In that exact arena.

I really hope they stray from the Vegas themed names for the team. Gamblers, wranglers, mobsters, aces, etc.

Its the desert - go with scorpions or something somewhat original.

maybe, if you just have to go with a Vegas theme .... The Las Vegas Neon

You are correct. That is where they would play.

+1 for the Rat Pack. Pack of ferocious rats on the front of the jersey and the Rat Pack on the back.

I agree it's a lock and they will need good hockey fans like yourself but at the end of the day I doubt they will have the fan base to fill the arena game after game year after year.

FYI, a forerunner is a predecessor.

Vegas is the front-runner in the expansion bid.

I realized that afterwards and reread my post. Can't edit the title, it's out of my power.

If they go with the Las Vegas Porn Slappers, I'll buy a jersey.

It will be an interesting experiment. The strike on pro sports in vegas (other than gambling influence) has long been that tourists from elsewhere don't care about the home team, vegas workers don't make much, and hospitality workers don't have typical 9-5 hours. I would imagine this team will be a hit while its a novelty (wonder how many of those season ticket commitments are hosts), but if the tourists don't watch, what will happen?

And on another note, this is a league that very recently had been crying poor in a fight for the cap. Expanding to another non-hockey market (and pocketing the expansion fee) could make the next round of collective bargaining really interesting.

not to mention i am sure hotels will be big sponsors and will always have free tickets to comp you if you play there enough.. instead of the pit handing me buffet coupons, ill take some hockey tickets!
