    My Trip Report

The wife and I just got back form almost a week at MB (June 12-18). It was another great trip. We flew in Friday evening and were happy with the decision. Typically, we fly in first thing in the morning but spend the rest of the day trying to stay up past 9:00. This was not a problem this time and we were rearing to go Saturday morning.

Saturday morning we walked up to the mall. Since we take a week off from exercising, we try to walk everywhere. The wife was going to hit the sales at the mall while I was finally going to play BJ. As I was walking back from the mall, I decided to cut through TI. I walked by the high limit area and was shocked to see the double deck table was only $25 (the minimums were raised during the course of the day) at 10:00 am. The rules were very good and I decided to give it a try but I only had $250 on me. This was the first time I gambled at TI. I didn't bring much cash because I have a CL at MB. After about 20 minutes, I lost my buy in. I found the dealers and the pit boss to be pleasant so I decided to hit the ATM and play a little longer. I ended up playing for 6 hours. I walked away $1500 up. This money was the only bankroll I needed for the remainder of the trip. I ended up gambling at TI 2 more days. I really liked the people working the high limit room and it was a convenient place to go to when the wife wanted to hit the Canal Shops or the shops at Wynncore. I will say this was totally unexpected and the wife liked the mini bottles of champagne they served in the HL room. I'm sure I will get offers from TI but I don't think we will stay there unless the offer is really nice.

On Saturday night, I headed to the MB tables while the wife was getting ready for dinner. In 30 minutes, I proceeded to win 5k from my 1k buy in. For the next two nights, I had similar success (1k and 2k) at the BJ table while waiting for my wife. Nice quick hit and runs. Overall, I ended up about 4k up for the trip. On the last two days, I gave back a good percentage of my winnings. Outside of TI and MB, the only place I gambled was at the Trop, Luxor and SLS. I hit the HL room at the Trop for 30 minutes. It was ok. I also played at the Luxor for a short period of time. I sat down at a $25 6/5 table by accident. It was not noted on the table and I didn't see the placard. I hit a BJ about 2 hands in and discovered the ugly truth. Got up and the pit boss asked me why I was leaving and I told her that I do not play 6/5. She told me that she could make it 3/2 if I asked for it. I said no thanks and went back over to MB.

With the Stanley Cup and the NBA finals going on, it was a fun time to be in the casino. The cheers and roars throughout the casino always charges the casino atmosphere. However, I missed the Hawks clinching the cup because it was the night we had dinner at L'atelier, our favorite restaurant in Vegas. After a wonderful dinner, I saw that Hawks had won.

There was a big Chevy convention at MB. Kid Rock played at the convention. Later that night he got up on stage at the Mizuya lounge to play with a cover band. It sounded so fucking horrible. I am not a big Kid Rock fan but it was obvious that he was 3 sheets to the wind. Later in the evening, as I was taking a piss, he walked up to the urinal next to me and he could barely stand.

My other brush with greatness was playing blackjack with Mike Holmgren. My guess he was there for the Chevy convention as well. I didn't recognize him until someone who walked by said fuck the Packers. I then noticed the Superbowl ring on his hand. I didn't really talk to him and he got up and left after 30 minutes.

During the trip, we ate L'Atelier, RM Seafood, RX Boiler Room, Todd English Pub and Julian Serrano. The biggest surprise was Julian Serrano. We ate at the bar for lunch and it was an incredible deal. You could get $5 sangrias and tapas between $5 and $7. This special runs from 12-5:30 daily. We ordered 5 or 6 tapas and the food was incredible. I highly recommend it.

    Other observations:

    - We hit the spa at MB. Still prefer the Spa at the Delano but the massages were excellent.
    - Pete Rose and his fat minions are still selling his autographs. He was there every day and his minions were out trying to get people to go in and see him.
    - Mlife desk pissed me off. Rude person who didn't want to help and was only interested in changing my Mlife card platinum to gold, although I was at platinum again by the end of the trip.
    - Checked out SLS. It was ok but would not go back unless there was a special reason.
-The shops in front of Ballys is a joke. 90% will be closed within a year.

Overall, it was a very good trip. Left a winner gambling but did not win enough to cover the wife's purchases.

Congrats on a winning trip! MLife desk at MB pissed me off on my last trip. They really need some customer service training.

We did small plates at L'atelier. We got between 5 and 6 between the two of use. They are other options. One of the options, for $81 per person, is to choose two appetizers, a main course, and dessert. For $99, you can get an additional main course. The food was fabulous. My favorite dish was the Iberico ham. My wife loved a hamachi dish. We split the fabulous quail with foie gras and mashed potatoes.

At RX, we started with the duck confit poutine and the cheese platter. The duck was out of this world. It included tater tots and cheese curds. The portions for this app was amazing. We also got the cheese platter. I feel like they wheeled out the whole cheese cart. It was excellent as well. We were full and therefore skipped ordering main courses.

Tickets to his shows in the Philly area are available on Groupon.

Thanks for the TR, especially the tip regarding Julian Serrano tapas deal.

They used to run the tapas special as "Happy Hour," now it's called "Bar Menu". It's a great deal, just be aware that they're strict about the cutoff time, you won't get grandfathered in if you're there past 5:30.

Thanks for the tip about the Julian Serrano bar menu. I think I'll give that a look mid-afternoon on my next trip.

Enjoyed the report. I have to chuckle about the guy and Holmgren. He hasn't been with the Pack since 1998. Since then he was with Seattle and Cleveland. Maybe he was a Pats fan and can't forget the Packers beating them in 1996 SB.:evillaugh

Not that it matters but back here in the media circles, he was known to be a giant SOB.

There seemed to be a huge contingent from Chicago. Lots of Hawks jerseys at MB during my stay. He definitely was not the life of the party at the table and just chatted with his friends.

I forgot to note that one night my wife and I were sitting at the BJ table and a gentleman took out a 50k marker for a $50 minimum table. This guy was driving the dealer crazy in how he wanted the chips broken down. He wanted x number of red, green, purple, etc. I played with him for 30 minutes and his bets never exceeded $75. I was betting more than him. I just didn't get it. I called it a night.
