Fremont or The Plaza? Where would you stay?

    Hello,

Where would you stay between The Fremont or The Plaza? The Plaza is about $20 higher for 4 nights but that includes the resort fee. But Fremont comes with $15 food/beverage each day. I would be purchasing WiFi everyday if I stayed at Fremont so that would be an extra $40 or so for the stay.
I'm so torn because I do love the location of Fremont but their rooms seem very small compared to The Plaza. Plus, I don't mind The Plaza's location because I do like to play sometimes down that way too. I've heard that both hotels have very small bathrooms which isn't too much of an issue since I will be staying solo.
How is The Plaza for video poker? I usually play Multi-hand (3 or 5) play 5 cent video poker. Does anyone know if they have some at The Plaza? I know they do at Fremont because I played them when I was there in May.
How about future comps/offers? I'm a low-ish roller so I'm wondering which casino might be more generous to receive future comps for cheaper rooms because I plan on going back in December.
Any advice is GREATLY appreciated, as I am very torn!

    Thanks!

I think the Plaza is the nicer place to stay. The fremont bathrooms are complete with tub, vanity and toilet. They are small, I was always afraid of my toiletries falling into the toilet and it did happen once. The Plaza "bathroom" has a toilet and tub in one room and the vanity area outside. The toilet and tub area is big enough for a full sized tub and toilet (that's about all it fits) but you will be cramped closing the door. The vanity area is a little small but you don't have to worry about your stuff falling in the toilet. Overall I think the Plaza rooms are larger and nicer than the Fremont. Plus it was hard to beat the direct tv at the Plaza that offers a multitude of channels. The Fremont tv only has the standard 15 or 20 or so channels.

I am not sure which will offer better comps but we have a host that reads the board (Curtis) so you can ask him what the Plaza has to offer. IMHO, I don't like playing at the Plaza and rather play at the Fremont but that is just me.

    I vote for Fremont.

After a several years absence from Vegas, I booked myself at the Plaza to stay in one of their (then) newly renovated rooms. For some reason, I got cold feet and decided to re-book instead at the Fremont. I am happy I did. That stay was the first, and only time I paid for my stay at the Fremont. I have been back at least 6 times since. I also get free play and food offers in addition to my room offers. Since Boyd has 3 properties downtown, my play at any of them goes toward building my comps. With Plaza you will only earn comps only at Plaza and Las Vegas Club (and who wants to spend much time there?).

The rooms at Fremont are small and there really isn't anything particularly special about the them, but I love the fact that the Fremont is centrally located to everything, and you can literally get from Fremont Street to your room in under 2 minutes.

I get offers from most of the casinos downtown, but I still choose Fremont over the others. I figure if I remain loyal to them, they will remain loyal to me.

Thanks for the quick replys. I forgot to mention that something important to me is a comfy padded sitting chair. I know that Fremont has one but how about The Plaza? Do they have something similar or do they just have that desk chair? That desk chair doesn't look very comfortable. Thanks! Split vote so far lol.

The Direct TV does sound intriguing at The Plaza. I do occasionally spend some time in the room and watch some TV to unwind before bed.

Each has its our merits. Good size room @ Plaza, bathroom separate from sink, but tiny. Fremont no resort fee, but internet and old style safe with key! For me, comps easier at Fremont/Boyd (more properties) than Plaza. I like Blackjack & VP, for me the blackjack sucks at Plaza. Bar top at MSS, craft beer, love it, plus plenty of tables at the DT boyd properties

the desk chair at the fremont is just the standard type of chair. I don't remember any other chair in the room but guess it all depends on what room you get. I don't remember it being any more padded than the one at the Plaza.

Also, are you going to be renting a car? The fremont only has valet parking so you have to include tipping in your costs. parking at the Plaza is valet or self parking (free self parking).

I don't think you can go wrong with either place and actually for me I would probably stay at the fremont because the resort fees add up. Well, actually I would rather stay at the Cal since I like having MSS only a few minutes away (I gamble more at the MSS than fremont or the Cal).

It was bad having direct tv though, I ended up channel surfing when I should have been sleeping. Normally I don't turn on the tv much and usually only to check out the current news and weather but at the Plaza I was staying in my room a little longer than I usually do watching tv.

I will not be renting a car, so that won't be a factor. The Plaza will actually end up being cheaper even with resort fees because I will be having to pay for Wifi everyday at Fremont, which I assume is around $10 per day. But like I said, Fremont does include $15 per day in food/drinks that is good at The Cal and MSS also. I'm leaning towards Fremont because I do like to play at all 3 Boyd properties downtown. And they all have great drink service, which is VERY important to me. I have no idea how the drink service is at The Plaza.

Nah, it sounds like the Fremont might be a better fit with you. Good luck with your decision! Like I said, can't go wrong with either place IMHO but for me I like the feel of the fremont gaming area over the Plaza but I like the rooms at the Plaza. Ha ha, tough decision.

    signing off till Monday.

Thanks Makikiboy. Tough decision indeed. But I appreciate your input! I'm leaning towards Fremont also.

I've never stayed at the Plaza, however I have stayed at the Fremont, so take my opinion may be a little biased.

I would pick the Fremont, especially you are staying by yourself. For a single person, I think the small size of the room works fine. If there's two to a room, that's when the size could be annoying. Personally, I dislike resort fees, so on principle, I would rather support a place that does not have resort fees. Also, I prefer the dining options at the Fremont compared to the Plaza, which, since you would be getting food comps that might matter. Also, getting comps for all three Boyd Properties downtown is nice. It's nice to have 3 options for gambling choices, compared to just one with the Plaza.

That being said, the location of the Fremont for me, is a very minor advantage. I have no problem being a little off Fremont St. experience as the Plaza is. I'm staying at MSS in July and I have no problem walking a block or two to get to the FSE. However, if you have mobility issues, the location of the Fremont Hotel may be the better choice. Also, the Plaza has been renovated more recently than the Fremont, if that matters to you. However, I like the vibe at the Fremont for Gambling better than the Plaza. But, of course, that's a very subjective thing.

Either way, I think you will probably be happy at either place. Good luck to you on your choice and your trip to Las Vegas.

Thanks very much! Did you use the Wifi at Fremont? If so, did you have any problems with it? Thanks again.

No. I'm sorry, but I didn't use the wifi. So I really don't know if it is good or not.

    My opinion:
Plaza - bigger room, slightly better bathroom set-up, more comfortable beds. Gambling? A very good two deck shoe game that allows DAS, but not much else in terms of blackjack...they do have Freebet & UTH.
Fremont - more convenient location, fast & easy access between the room & casino, Dunkin' Donuts on-site, plenty of $5 & $10 two-deck 3:2 pitch (sadly, no DAS). Better drink service than Plaza.
If you like to casino hop, Fremont is better, as you get 'points' from MSS & Cal. LVC can't compare/compete with those two properties, although they DO have the same good-rules blackjack that Plaza has...@ $10.

Plaza puts you very close to Golden Gate & Dupars, with an easy walk to MSS & the Cal. Fremont allows easy access to 4-Queens (& Magnolia's), 'theD', Binion's & the Nugget.

I like them both...I've stayed in both more than once...cost was not an issue, as I was comped at both properties. (Plaza gets a slight edge on the comped room, as theirs includes good WiFi, with the resort fee waived).

    Hope that helps

I'm a little biased because I've stayed at the Fremont. But I think you can't go wrong with either one. The Fremont rooms are small but for solo travelers it's fine.

I do know that if you stay at the Fremont you'll be closer to diaper man and the homely ladies with pasties on their boobs. If you love the ladies and that guy then the Fremont is best.

If you're like me and get nightmares thinking about them then the Plaza would be better. :poke::beer:

I saw diaper man when I visited in March. Yup, grossed me out. I didn't mind seeing the boobs as much, at least it was something that I could live with but diaper man? Nope. Hope he goes away, errr, no, I can't stand seeing him walk away with his buttcrack showing. that also grossed me out.

I would go with Fremont because the staff is much nicer. The rooms are small, but from my experience, everyone from the front desk to the valets and maids are great.

My Plaza experience was not so nice.

I stayed at The Freemont for a weekend in June after 5 or 6 straight trips to the Plaza. There has always been a couch or chair in my south tower king room at the Plaza. The wi-fi, AC, TV, sportsbook, valet, food court, bed and safe are all better at The Plaza. The location, midweek game availability, cocktail service, and lack of bus stop visitors is better at Freemont. but if the room is important Plaza wins easily for me

I never had a problem with the cocktail service at the Plaza. (Just saying):)
