Whats stopping you from moving to Vegas?

That and I honestly love winter.

 

I've seen the same number of snakes in Las Vegas as I have in Chicago. None. This includes some hiking in Red Rock Canyon.

I liked winter also when I was 20 years younger, now it's not so much fun.

Today? My girlfriend, mostly. My job would actually be well-served by my moving to Vegas, but I can do it well enough from here, whereas there's no way she'd find something comparable anywhere else but New York.

 

1. Jobs -- I looked for a job in my field (Firmware Engineer) and found virtually nothing, and my wife would make less working in a much less prestigious hospital
2. Healthcare -- I've been spoiled my whole life going to the Mayo Clinic and have heard horror stories about healthcare in Vegas

 

No need.
I can simply get a plane ticket when I want to be there, without leaving the grand kids permanently behind. We would spend more time going back to visit them than I do going to Las Vegas.

Although, many years ago I used to toy with the idea of moving to Vegas. Every winter when the first snow flake fell at home, I threatened relocation. But when I checked out the job situation in Vegas, I soon realized I could not work in Vegas and do what I do and make the same salary as home. So, ever since, I come 3 times a year and that satisfies.

 

Having no desire to live there! I love to visit, and hope to continue to do so twice a year or so, but living there never even crossed my mind.

 

THIS!! I like to go to Vegas to stay on the strip, gamble in places other than my local and just..."get away". My employer has a LV office and theoretically, I could make it work, if I pushed it hard. But for me, it just wouldn't be fun to go to the strip--to vacation anymore. And the heat. (I don't want to hear about it being a dry heat. 110 is 110. Forget it.) Yes, it can be brutally humid here--but 1) it's not all summer or 2) any particular stretch where it's constantly humid, like in the mid-south or south. And yes, winter's pretty awful, but frankly, I enjoy variable weather. I LIKE a nice, rainy day in fall. I like actual thunderstorms in summer. I like a 65 degree day in early April where you wear shorts for the first time in 5 months. I guess the difference is I've lived here my whole life, winter is tiresome but I'm used to it. I suppose I'd become accustomed to heat in the summer in Vegas as well. Also, my family lives here and I don't have any reason to move, really. I'd miss my nieces. I'd miss the Brewers (even if they are brutal this year). I like to VISIT Vegas as my vacation getaway, not live there. I like LIVING in Wisconsin too much.

 

I'm happy here,wouldnt go south just because it's cheaper,forget Vegas or any other metro area.I left all that traffic and congestion behind in North Jersey. Born here,worked here and intend to die here.

 

While I've toyed with the idea before, it was more for fun than an actual consideration. Other cities that were more musician-friendly took precedence. I also decided that I never wanted to permanently live anywhere I enjoyed going on vacation, and Las Vegas is my personal number one vacation destination. Although I don't go as often as I'd like to, it is my true release and getaway from "the real world". I have not found another place like it and, therefore, would not want to permanently reside there since that excitement and feeling would quickly fade and become normal or even mundane.

 

I would KILL to move to Las Vegas. I'm 27 and work from home, so my work can be done anywhere. We live in North Carolina, so I'm used to heat, but it would nice to get away from the humidity. Even though I love North Carolina, I would absolutely be in heaven living in Vegas, I just know it.

Unfortunately, my husband won't go for it. His grandma raised him and is his "mom," and she's in her 70s, so I understand it. But I've hinted, and he still won't be interested "when something happens to her." He loves it here even more than I do.

I guess I'll just have to settle for yearly trips to Vegas. Meh.

 

I spend a lot of time in Vegas residing short-term in places like Vdara or Palms Place. I could never do it long term. It would be too dangerous. I've already lost millions just staying short term and I know I am a degenerate who couldn't control myself if I was there every day.

 

I've lived in the vegas area for more than a year now. Henderson to be exact. I moved from tampa bay florida. I hated the humidity. I love it here, but, its not for everyone. I've only been to the strip twice since I got here. That was for family and friends visits. Let's face it, the strip is overpriced. I get great comps from the local casinos with very little betting. That said I am retired and would not recommend the move for families. The weather is great, but for a couple months of the year. If you can't control your gambling do not move here. It's cheap. It's fun but it's not like a vegas vacation

 

Currently I'm living abroad, but hypothetically speaking, I wouldn't move because Vegas excitement usually wears off after 4-5 nights for me. I always miss it when I get back home, but I wouldn't want to be there for more than a week at once.

While I was living in the U.S., it was really cool to be living on the west coast though from a Vegas perspective. Enjoying some nicer, waterfront cities to live (LA, SF, Seattle etc.), while you have the option of a quick Vegas getaway is the best solution I think.

I'm perfectly fine with a yearly trip to Vegas..after a few days, the Vegas excitement is over. I feel that if I lived in Vegas there would be no excitement anymore.

 

It I were to move to Vegas today, I'd be filing for bankruptcy by the 4th of July. That's what's stopping me from moving to Vegas.

 

If you want to live in LA or SF you better bring money - LOTS of money, especially SF. I lived in both. Santa Monica was the nicest place to go to but it would cost about $3000 / month for a small apartment on the beach. You couldn't get to the beach on the holidays; last Labor Day people waited in traffic for 3 hours then most just gave up. Can't find parking. On a normal weekend plan on at least an hour trip and $20 to park when you can find a space. Newport Beach is full of kids and adolescents and Venice is just plain dangerous and weird.

Since Facebook and LinkedIn moved into SiLi (stupid) Valley, rents went through the roof. Plan to spend $2000-$2500 for an average 1 Br apartment. SF is now more expensive to live in than in New York City.

 

Sounds similar to my wife and I although I am still doing some consulting and she is picking up some hours as an RN. We live in Henderson too. Spend time at the M and Southpoint (sometimes the Coast properties), but very little time on the strip.

We take advantage of the free food and great give-aways at the M and gamble enough to keep getting good deals.

I'm working out of town now and my wife is trying to handle the heat (actually better than Phoenix where we lived for 20 years) and no complaints so far.
