As you know, Resorts World will be a massive Asian themed resort that pulls out all the stops: opulent architecture true to China, Panda exhibit, even the Great Wall of China. I'm really excited for this! After the bland steel buildings that have been dominating Vegas architecture/hotels (I'm talking to you City Center) I'm so happy to see something fun and original on the horizon! Thoughts?

Unfortunately i think this will be a resorts world only thing, but i wouldn't mind being wrong. I tend to like themed casinos.

I hope it signals a return to themed resort casinos, because that's a big part of the fun of Vegas. Vegas is supposed to be over-the-top like that. That's why I have always felt underwhelmed by the Aria or Cosmopolitan.

I'd like to see an all-of-something Vegas orientation instead of the herd mentality that has everyone rushing off the same direction, then all going 180 the other way 10 years later, then back again. A Vegas with a real TI and City Center, a real Mirage and Cosmo, Caesars and Trump would be great.

I too am in favor of the themed resorts.

I like to see the varying themes - every place shouldn't be a carbon copy of each other

I also agree. I'd like each casino to be different in a fun way. Although I do favor casinos I feel comfortable in. I can't really define what makes this so for me.

I with you on feeling a comfort level.

Like my own personal feng shui in each place. Some I'm really comfortable in and others I don't feel it and leave. Flamingo and the remodeled Linq are a couple where I just don't like the feel.

I don't think themed casinos ever went away! I also don't think themed casinos were new in any recent decades. Even in "Vintage Vegas" (tm) we had themes such as desert, space age, and old west.

I think they went away, which is sad. Theme's are what made me fall in love with vegas in the 90's. Look at all of the newest entries. SLS, Cosmo, Aria, Encore, Wynn ETC. I dont think anything built in the 2000's forward was themed. Maybe Aladdin came in just under the wire but they ripped that open and turned it into the Planet Ho which is pretty themeless.

And a bunch of the old themed places have dumped millions into de-themeing. Poor Luxor was awesome before they started pulling everything Egypt out of there. The new food court killed off the Egyptian village theme with a generic suburban mall look. I remember gambling in Central park in NY NY and thats been killed. Along with the cute bridges and such. Dont get me started on treasure Island. Not much Pirate stuff left at all.

I doubt Themes will ever come back. I'm tickled that Resorts World is doing it. But i doubt the industry follows. The club kids that each new casino will want to attract just dont want to visit anything over the top or what they would consider "uncool".

I don't really mind non-themed resorts; Aria and Cosmopolitan are two of my favorite hotels on the Strip, design-wise, and I also love more subtly-themed resorts like Mandalay Bay and Bellagio. What I can't stand are the efforts to take an obviously themed resort and turn it into something non-themed. Luxor is probably the prime example of this for me. As much as MGM might wish otherwise, it's still a pyramid, and all the airport-lounge-chic decor in the world won't change that. Same thing, to a lesser extent, with Mirage and Treasure Island.

Yes, if you're going to theme a resort, THEME a resort.

The intensively themed resorts will come back if Resorts World clicks. TPTB decided that millenials didn't like themes and started pulling them out. I don't know what kind of market research backs that up. But it seemed to me that people who are passionate enough about Vegas to go online and research or talk about it would rather see more of them. They just wanted more unique ones or less cheesy ones.

My problem is most new casinos I've been in since Wynn reminds me of the last one. Theme or no theme, that's gotta stop. I may as well sit my ass in the same casino all day instead of spreading my money or time about if I'm not going to experience something new.

If it makes money, it will. I think Vegas is ready for the next wave of whatever. Might be themes done a different way. Might not. I think you can modernize and update without de-theming but, what do I know?

I'd love to see Vegas Vegas, with the theme being all the closed down casinos, cheap steak specials and cheap hookers. :evillaugh

I enjoyed the themed casinos, thats what makes Vegas, Vegas. Now that gamblings all over the country, what are they going to sell? I also know young people who like the themes and like clubs. They are selling space to retail for income because their gambling income is declining. Their business plans are not creative and are reactive rather than proactive. Instead of expanding their customer base, they are deserting their older base. Hopefully this will be a trend with some decent gambling.

    Hopefully.

I was in Vegas last week and was not impressed with the bland Cromwell and Linq. Vegas goes through phases. I don't think anyone will miss this de-theming phase.

I stayed at Paris and love that place because of the theme!
