What do they mean by a "pool cabana" in Vegas?

Growing up in Europe they had cabanas at pools and the beach, but these were basically closets wherein one could change. From what I'm reading here, the Vegas cabanas are much more than that? Do they have bathrooms and room to stretch out etc? What exactly do you get when you rent one?

It varies. But basically it's a much bigger closet to change clothes, but they'll usually have a couch, a few seats, TV, safe and fridge for your comfort along with several lounge chairs that are assigned just to you. Some will include a small snack tray and you will have a server who will come by much more frequently than out in the regular pool area. If you have several folks in your group, it's a nice way to spend a day out by the pool without having to find several chairs together or worry about your belongings.

As Ferris Bueller said "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Thanks! Much more than those I remember from Europe!

Yeah, the entry level cabanas are basically a 3-sided tent with places to sit/relax. Like anything else in Las Vegas, it's go up from there depending on how much you want to spend. The nicer ones have couches/day beds, flat screen TV's, refrigerators and ceiling fans (one of my favorite options). Levels of service vary from none all the way up to having a butler assigned.

Cabanas are nice during peak times when things are packed or when you've got a group of people to share with so you've got a base where you can hang out together. As mentioned, many of them have safes for your valuables. And, the ones I've used have been closely watched by Security.

Another thing to consider is that whatever the cabana cost is for the day is considered a "minimum spend", so if let's say the cabana cost is $500, you must spend up to that level to cover the day's rental fee. If you have not spent that amount by the end of the day in food and beverage, consider ordering a bottle of liquor or wine to take with you back to the room to meet the minimum spend level.

Whoa! So you spend more on the cabana than you do on your room- even a suite! Well, won't have to worry about it in November and March!

At the higher end properties, yes, that would be true. It's another profit center for the hotel.

And most of the higher end hotels have more suites than cabanas. Supply and demand. Guests will pay high dollars for the cabanas, so the hotels charge it
