I want to take my mom to Vegas but she won't ever use a scooter and walks insanely slowly, especially after some drinks! No disrespect to her, I get it. But I can't see her walking through a big property like Bellagio or even Mirage? What is the best Strip hotel where the casino and restaurants aren't too far away from the room elevators? Not Aria as it's non smoking.

I like the Monte Carlo because the elevators are close the check in desk, casino and food court. - I like coming out of the elevator, walking 10 feet and sitting down at a machine (maybe I have a problem? :D ) The casino isn't that big so the sit down restaurants aren't too far of a walk either, however the drawback is that getting to other hotels is a bit of a jaunt.

IIRC the elevators @ PH and Paris are fairly close to the casino floor and some restaurants. The problem is how much of a walk to the room, unless you ask for a room close to the elevators.

Monte Carlo does have a great layout for elevators being close to casino and food, but the food is from the food court so depends if she is in to places like Subway, Sbarro's, McDonald's, etc.

Most of the properties on The Strip are big mega resorts though, but you might look at a place like Tropicana: its a smaller property where everything is pretty close together as far as casino, food and rooms go.

As for the scooter: has she ever tried one? Maybe without telling her you could rent one and have it sent to the room and say its complimentary from the hotel because you told them she had some mobility issues when booking the room and then she can either use it or not... and if she isn't in to trying it you might want to take it out for a spin to show her its not that bad to use - most people have a problem with scooters because they are for "old people" and so there is a mental stigma attached where using one because you need it means you have to admit you are old and not as capable as you were before.

I bring that up because my wife's father had some bad mobility issues and he was adamant he would never ever not in a million years use a scooter but then one day we got him to try one while shopping at a big box store and I think to him it was like having his freedom back again because he was able to actually go up and down all the aisles and get out and about. Pretty much from there he loved the things and bought his own about 2 weeks later and was going everywhere with it.

TI is a good choice. Casino is not too big and the elevators to the room our right of the casino -- the only drawback is there not a lot of eating/restaurant choices, but you can take the tram to mirage.

Maybe this sounds crazy - but I actually really like Cosmo for that. The footprint of the resort is much more vertical than horizontal. One step out the front door, and you are on the strip sidewalk - it's not set back at all. Food choices may be a bit more limited, however, The Henry is located right inside the casino and has a menu I could probably survive eating every meal from for a short trip - lol. Plus, you'd have bragging rights that your mom rocked the Cosmo......

I often bring my father who can walk, but not far, and certainly not quickly. My host will arrange for a wheelchair. When our limo pulls up to the curb at PH, the bellman has the wheelchair ready. The PH casino is not as large as others, but it suits us. We stay in the north tower and restaurants are close to the elevator bank. We have also stayed at Paris and that works for us as well.

Wynn & Encore - no steps/escalators to deal with, easy flow between properties - if you go next door to Venetian there is an elevator to the footbridge.

Not sure which property to label "the best", but I know it's NOT Caesar's. We had a group of 150 or so there and at the end of the 4 day event had more complaints about the necessary walking than anywhere we've EVER stayed. To be fair, this isn't a young group with most participants over 50.

Thanks everyone! MC seems like it would work. I've stayed there before and agree that the elevators' proximity to the casino is perfect, and we'd try to get her a room as close to the elevator as possible. I also think Cosmo is a good possibility as she would enjoy the whimsical decor and she's pretty hip for a lady in her late 60s. I'll consider sneaking in the scooter. She surprised me by agreeing to consider a life alert system since she's now fallen at home twice so maybe she'd consider the scooter.

I'm 32 years old and have a form of muscular distrophy so i cant walk very far without being completely wiped out out. I use scooters all the time for big stores and especially in Vegas it so much easier. Like Auggie was saying maybe if she tries it she will like it and feel like she has her freedom back. Plus being in Vegas she could take the scooter all over strip and not be slow or tired from walking.

If you can swing it, book a diamond suite. They are located right by the elevators. That also gives you a little more room and the extra half bathroom ensures neither of you has to wait while the other is in the bathroom.

I'm guessing The Cromwell would also be a good choice.

If I remember right at the Tropicana, the walk depends on what tower you are in. We have stayed there twice, once in each tower. The back tower seemed like it was quite a walk, but my feet were also covered in blisters so at that point anything seemed like a long walk.

How about NYNY? It's a relatively small property, has decent restaurants, and the rooms are close to the casino. The main weakness of NYNY is its pool area and lack of true sports book, but if those are not important to you, then I think NYNY is a good option.

Get a room in the tower serviced by the empire elevators. It is adjacent to the front desk, pool, parking garage, and gift shop. There are only a few rooms on each floor so you are never far from the elevators.

The cromwell is right on the strip so it is a good choice for that reason. There are stairs to navigate at both entrances to the strip, but I believe there must be a ramp there somewhere. The rooms are small, so storing a scooter in the room would be problematic.

I believe the MC is a very good choice. My Sister in Law's father would always stay at MC and he had mobility issues due to MD. He enjoyed the ability to move around the hotel and casino and not feel wiped out. He also always made comments on the valet as it was very good to get into the Hotel / Casino. Enjoy your trip

I've basically moved downtown now. I'm mobile but I have chronic issues which leave me wiped out and in pain if I overdo things. I've been staying at the Golden Nugget mainly for the pool. For variety I wander around Fremont Street.

On the strip, I like Bally's. But, I hadn't considered Monte Carlo, it's probably similar. We like being able to go out the side door and hit Stage Door and/or Ellis Island very easily from Bally's.

I'm considering a scooter for future trips because I feel I've been limiting myself and it takes me too long to recover after Vegas. I'm back to work now and I can't have the super long recoveries. I also came back from the last few trips sick, which I had a hard time fighting, which added to my recovery time. I'd like to at least try a scooter and see if that makes any difference. I shouldn't be prideful about it when I've seen young healthy frat boy types scooting around for shits and giggles. I love downtown but I miss the strip. Scooters are getting smaller now too.
