So we have a family Alaska cruise planned for August. A big decade birthday for me so I am bringing the fam(9 of us). We are joining a large group of friends. Airfares are ridiculous so it was suggested maybe we should stop in vegas on the way. Well a little, very little research showed we could stop going both ways for less than going direct. OK there is a bit of baggage charge but it saves a night in Seattle.

    So what would you do?

Would you post on Vegas or non Vegas chat until it goes live? Where should it end up when it goes live. Vegas trips since two stops in Vegas for a total of 4 days or non Vegas since the cruise is 7 days?

By the way, cruise is comped for gambling so if I don't run out of money in Vegas, will be a serious gambling cruise as well.

    I am confused

I am doing a Disneyland, SoCal/PHX trip with my family, then leaving the kid in PHX and going to Vegas with the wife. I plan on starting a new TR for the Vegas leg FWIW.

I did Alaska with my parents and wife... Loved it, just a cruise or a land portion as well?

I'm only going to Vegas twice this year, but for 7 days/6 nights two times. Sandwiched in between is Hawaii. My best buddy (who was born in Pearl City) and family and i are attending a wedding.
This will be my first time flying since my stroke in 2011. I'm really nervous because my equilibrium is wack since my stroke. When i go to Vegas now and have to use the overhead walkways, i walk as fast as i can with my head down. I hardly ever drink alcohol, but i may get drunk until the plane lands.
I can't drive to Vegas but luckily i take the Disneyland bus to/from, mostly tourists from overseas who visit SoCal/Vegas.

If Vegas is your first stop then write a Trip Report about your time in Vegas only.

I'll read whatever you write. But you probably should separate vegas from non vegas.

My Folks always got wheelchairs on both ends of the flight even before it was a true need so that they could get through security quickly and to baggage claim quickly. They got a bit confused so it really helped even when they could still walk. Might give that a thought.

Ok, not sure I am that talented but I will try. Probably will set the tapatalk starting with one and not switch. I will try to set up both before I leave. Will be a great trip.

But that will have to wait, off to AC in three weeks for Seven Star Event. Come on Big Money

Ok, I will try to keep them separate. Probably do both as the cruise is a very large gambling group. I think 30 to 35 cabins

Time to resurrect this thread. Less than three weeks we start our next adventure. Vegas two days, Seattle for a cruise and back to Vegas for two days. Can't believe it is cheaper to fly through Vegas. Win Win Win. So cancel the night in Seattle, tag along on the transfers and get the rooms in Vegas free. $450 free play, If only I don't lose my A$$ along the way should be great.

So I will only report on the Vegas stays as wifi will be spotty on the cruise and the rates are ridiculous. So it the alcohol by the way, so we are thinking to try the rum runners. My son used on a cruise this year and it was perfect. If anyone is interested, I will post a few picts on the TR.

As I mentioned earlier, there are roughly 30 cabins of gamblers, most travel together, so casino should be a blast. I know pay tables will suck so will probably lean toward BJ and craps. Then again, 90% of my royals have been at crappy bar tops so maybe.....we will see.

Are you leaving the 7 star event and then going on the cruise to Alaska? Norwegian as part of your star free cruise?

We are doing the Alaska cruise the first week of September so would love to see pictures - please post!!

So glad to find this thread. I'm considering an Alaskan cruise next year to celebrate our anniversary and had not considered breaking the trip up with a stop in Vegas both ways. Love that idea, I'll be watching along the way for updates. DH has never been on a cruise and we've never been to Alaska.

Looking forward to your TR and the pics.

Actually I am not there for the 7 star event, we did AC in June. It was a good time except the gambling. I was planning to use my 7 star cruise to join friends but I ended up connected with a guy who got me a mini suite based on my CET play. Of course I had to pay the fees and base room charge. Now I just have to gamble enough to deserve it. Should be a blast in the casino as there are about 30 cabins on the trip.

I still have the 7 star cruise and will use it to go out of Venice in October if my wife is up for it. She gets motion sickness so I figure inside passage and the Mediterranean Sea are probably the safest bets. We will see how she does the first one.

I will definitely post picts for you but it may be after we return due to the internet charges on those ships

This will be our fourth inside passage cruise. I took my folks three times before they passed. First time mid 90s then twice ten years later. My dad loved it so much the first time, he wanted to go back while he could still get around. I am bringing my kids, spouses and grandkids so we will have 4 cabins. It is a great cruise with minimal motion sickness due to the barrier islands. My wife suffers the first and last day but while we are in the passage she does fine.

I was watching airfares and commented to a friend who invited us how expensive they were this year. He suggested stopping in Vegas on the way there as a group of 10 of so from Florida were doing the same thing. I checked the prices and found I could stop on both ends of the cruise cheaper than flying straight to Seattle. It saves me a hotel night in Seattle and I have free rooms and lots of FP I can use while in Vegas. So 2 two night vegas trips.

I told my son coming from Georgia and he was able to get their flights cheaper as well. They are stopping on the way to the cruise but they doesn't have enough vacation to stop both directions. Since the first Vegas stop is about 36 hours, we have it fully planned with detailed itenerary. Return trip with just the two of us will be more relaxed.

I will post some picts but probably when I get back to Vegas due to internet cost on the ship.

So we got the rum runners to assist with taking booze on the ship and prep them today. We will fill them in Vegas and carry from there. I was a bit hesitant but my son tells me it was quite successful on his last cruise. So I plan to move from cheap booze to better stuff. Flor de cana 18 years, Bombay Saphire, Ciroc Peach, and maybe a nice congnac. Suggestions????

We're not going to Vegas this year due to a large family cruise next month that is eating up my vacation time. We're hitting up a few islands in the Caribbean on Royal Caribbean. Should still be fun.

Alcohol is crazy expensive on those cruises. Couldn't believe it. It's not even an affordability thing - it's "I can't bring myself to pay for it" expensive. Thus, I am looking into rum runners, too, to at least lighten the load. I am sure I'll end up buying a basic beer/wine package, but supplement with the rum runners.

    Good luck on your cruise.

Thanks, we are looking forward to spending time with the family and getting to know this large cruise group while we are there. Definitely get the rum runners, cheap investment.

So, itenerary is complete for the pre and post Vegas trips. Meal reservations, drinks, gambling and sight seeing (that is weird things in between gambling locations). Iten is roughed out for the cruise in between our Vegas stops. We are thinking minimum excursions as this is our 4th inside passage cruise.

Now, how to fund the gambling. This is a family cruise at my expense to celebrate one of those decade birthdays we don' like to talk about. I have kids, grandkids, 4 cabins and airfare... What was I thinking. Oh well, I am still excited to do it.

I have LOC at several places in Vegas so thinking a few checks to play in Vegas and money for the cruise. Sounds like on the ships, either you use the ridiculous ATM fees or pay a % to get cash.

If it is anything like the other gambling trips this year I'll be switching from $1 VP to black jack or nickel VP to conserve cash on the cruise. Hopefully like last year when most was $5 VP.

So Vegas is set including limo and restaurant reservations, Cruise transits are set, cruise is set, docs are printed and rum runners are ready to be loaded in Vegas. Passports are good but we did have one close call in the group.

What am I missing? Oh yes, pre vegas movie plans after packing. Which will we watch??
