Are there many penny slots where you can actually bet only a penny? I only remember seeing minimum bets of 25 or 50 cents, but I wasn't looking very hard. If so, are there more of them downtown than the strip?

No, penny slots is a misnomer. Most of them have higher maximum bets than $.25 or $1 slots.

Some of the penny slots allow you to bet 1 cent, however you get only 1 line.

"CRABMANIA" is a 25 line penny slot machine. I usually bet all 25 lines at 2 to 5 cents a line. Once, and only once, I had 1 cent left at the end of my session and rather than take it out, pushed the play button....BONUS:vomit: The bonus played and re-triggered and I won a total of 3 cents after my 20 free spins. I just left it in the machine and went home:grrr:

There a few penny slots you can bet just 1 penny. You have to look for them. Sometimes we have 6 cents left on our ticket so I play it at the 1 penny a time machines.

There are quite a few that let you bet 1 cent. That's usually when I hit the bonus trying to clear credits instead of printing a 1 cent ticket.

I see them all the time, but like others have posted, you only get one line out of many. Ive seen people play at them to get cheap drinks though. I tend to avoid these machines since to play max, you are making a fairly large bet. I stick to 2-3 credit max machines.

They're still out there, but they are harder to find than they used to be. Many older IGT games let you bet as little as one line for a penny apiece.

I went into the Palazzo earlier this month and found a 1cent machine, I believe it was nearby Carnevino.

Most of the older type slots are 1c minimums. Just select 1 line @ 1 credit per line

For a while there, CET was replacing a lot of older slots with so-called "penny" slots where the minimum was the better part of a dollar. They seem to have backed off on this, mainly locally. Their first Island Eyes was high-minimum but they installed another true penny one as well as a couple true penny Cleopatra and Planet Moola.

For the strip anyway, I also noticed a lot of older penny machines at Treasure Island this last trip.

Look for the older/original penny slots.
    IIRC Excalibur has them.

Sams Town, Orleans, Gold Coast, and Aliante all have excellent selections of "true penny" machines. Sams Town did disappoint me over the holidays when they took out the only Treasure Chess machine which I've ever seen. :(

All of those I mentioned above have cocktail service at the true penny slots.

The original version of Goldfish is a good penny slot that you can actually bet one cent.

I would also be willing to bet that the casinos love the fact that you can't "play out" those last few credits on many machines. You're stuck with a sub-dollar voucher and I know many people will just say the heck with it and not bother to cash those in. I'm sure they add up, same as expired vouchers do.

Seriously, this happened to me the other day and I got a bonus round on Cleopatra II playing like 5 cents or something. Won a whopping $1.00!

I've found that lots of the penny slots that have physical buttons that say like "20 credits", "30 credits", etc on them will also allow you to select lesser amounts if you use the buttons on the screen.

Last time I was in town at 4 Queens, I watched a lady play 1c a hand VP (right by the door/bar and get drinks. Royal Flush paid 4.00.
