FIrst timer - trip date 3rd June. Not sure what to expect re.temps

Hi, really excited about my first trip to vegas. I'm from the uk so not really used to extreme temps. I realise it will be in the 90's early June. Not really experienced these types of temps before. What is it like as regards walking up and down the strip during the day. Is this doable. thanks.

 

Hi, I,m from the UK too, been in Vegas most months throughout the years. June, yes it will be in the 90,s, walking the strip is no big deal, as long as you dont walk from Mandalay Bay to The STRAT !! If you get too hot, duck into the nearest casino for a cool down. Most important thing is footwear, go for comfort rather than style!! Nothing worse than sore feet in the heat......

I second that. Footwear is essential. Temps are high 90's with very little humidity. Nice to walk the strip and cool down with a beverage. Enjoy, I'll be there from 5/30 to 6/6.

 

Just a warning. Because of very low humidity in the desert, you don't feel yourself sweating. You are, it just evaporates so quickly you don't feel it. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

 

Turn your oven on, let it get nice and hot, stick your head in. That about feels like walking out of the a/c into the heat.

 

If you are outside for any period of time longer than walking from one casino to the next, be sure to have sunscreen on. The sun can be extreme and 10-15 minutes will get a nice burn on skin that is not used to exposure!

 

Avoid walking the Strip in mid-day. Always order a bottle of water when offered a cocktail. The cocktail server will be happy to provide you with both a cocktail and bottle of water at the same time. Drink the water, even if you don't feel thirsty. At the pool, seek some shade even before you think you need it. And by all means, use some sunscreen. The desert sun can be intense. You will be much more comfortable in the long run, without the sunburn and the dehydration.

Its not too bad.. like others have said its easy to duck inside a casino quick for some ac and maybe a cold drink quick. biggest thing is comfy shoes, dress light, and to not be 500 pounds. I have done it in mid july at over 100 degrees and it did not bother me. It is really dry heat unlike some parts of our country that are humid moist heat, that is the real uncomfortable stuff.

 

i go the first week of june every year, i find that its usually between 34c and 40c. the last few years it has been quite windy

 

Since there is hardly any humidity, temps in the 90's aren't too bad, IMO. Definitely heed the earlier advice to keep yourself hydrated and pack the sunscreen (and moisturizer, lip balm etc...it is dry!). But until it gets into the triple digits, the often mocked aphorism, "but it's a dry heat" actually holds up, IMO.

 

Short walks are fine...as in from one casino to the one next door, or two over.
Anything more than that warrants a cab in the summer.

As others have said - drink plenty of water... ordering one with each cocktail is a good idea.

 

Heat tolerance is relative. When we spent so much of our time in the desert, playing golf in 113 didn't really seem all that bad. Now that we live with ocean breezes I think 80 is scorching. But unless you have some specific medical condition, you could pad along the entire stretch of the Strip and not expire; it's not Lawrence in Arabia, for heaven's sake. Heed the advice of others as to sun exposure and H2O intake and you'll be fine. And for all the booze bravura we all show here ... alcohol is not your friend in this regard.

90 in the desert is nothing. Dress for warm weather and wear good shoes and you'll be fine.

If you have trouble, try earlier in the day when it's cooler. Summer mornings are VERY pleasant on the strip.

I tend to go to Vegas in the summertime when it's really hot. One thing that will help is that some locals have a cottage industry of selling ice-cold bottled water on the walkways between hotels for a dollar a bottle. It's a good way to stay hydrated if you plan to walk the Strip under the conditions.

 

You need to check the weather and temp predictions first. Sometimes it is in the 100's so beware that the heat can take a toll on you (if you go walking outside). As others have mentioned, be aware that you may not be aware of the heat affecting you so make sure you stay hydrated.

Even in the high 90's best thing is to make sure you don't overexert yourself and every so often go into the casinos to cool off. At the first signs of heat exhaustion (or you don't feel well or start to feel funny or tired), hurry into someplace with an a/c to cool off. Don't think that you can walk more if you start to show signs, best to immediately cool off and take something to keep you body temp down.
