I'm a Southwest fan, but this sucks!

Karen Momsen-Evers's plane home to Milwaukee from a girls' weekend in New Orleans was about to take off when she received a text from her husband, Andy: "Karen, please forgive me for what I am about to do, I am going to kill myself." Though she desperately tried to respond, Momsen-Evers was told by flight attendants that she needed to put her phone on airplane mode immediately, TMJ 4 reports.

Why didnt she just call anyway? she was told no in and that was it she just sobbed and accepted it?

Something about that doesnt fit the narrative here. make a big enough rukus and they would have called the police and kicked her off the plane.

I am willing to bet all my next paycheck that there is more to this story and possibly she is involved in it.

It is peculiar. It's hard to imagine if you told an attendant that you received information that someone was threatening suicide that they would say just to shut your phone off. I don't know how easy it is for them to contact authorities to send them to the location where the suicidal person is located. It's hard to imagine that she said she needed too make a call without explaining why and then sat there and cried when they said no. There must have been other people around her on the plane who saw what happened.

I wonder if the text worried her, but she didn't want to tell others what he'd said. Possibly he'd made similar comments before and unfortunately, this time he carried through on them. And because we've learned to always suspect the spouse from watching TV, I'm sure they'll investigate that angle of it as well. But giving her the benefit of the doubt, it's hard to imagine how difficult that plane ride must have been.

Perhaps the airline feels they can't make an exception to every "important text" that needs responding to and they went by the book.

the obvious thing in this situation is you make whatever call or contact you have to make and deal with the law/rule breaking consequences later

Why did she stay on the plane? Was her plan to text back for a while until the plane took off and was out of cell network range? She could have stood up and said she had an emergency and had to leave.

We only have one side of the story here. Do we really know what the flight attendants actually did?. I have flown Southwest over one hundred times and they have always been nice. I cannot imagine Southwest flight attendants doing this.
But, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I feel a little duped in this post after reading the comments. My Gawd I worked in local TV News for 35 years and should have stepped back and thought about this a little more before posting the link. It's TV News and it was still "sweeps".

My bad for not thinking it all through and now I feel stupid. Sorry to my fellow VMBers for even posting. So many things wrong with this story.

So did he actually do it or was it a bluff?

Don't feel bad, Joe. I always fall for "Superstar Actress In Stunning Bikini Bod", which almost always locks my computer up.

It is easy to Monday morning quarterback this but I would have made such a fuss, and used my phone while making a fuss, that they would have had no choice but to throw me off the plane. I'd have dealt with the repercussions afterwards.

you cause a ruckus , the cops are called, tell your story and then the cops can deal with the suicide situation from there it would be a good thing to have the cops called

I usually keep my phone on until they close the door and make the announcement; but after reading these posts, I think I'll turn the darn thing off before boarding!
