Anyone seen these around the strip lately? Last time I was in town I had seen few and really enjoyed playing on one with my morning coffee around the Linq.

Does anyone else around here like these machines?

I think every casino I've ever been in has one of these.

I am a craps player so I tried them on my last trip and I didn't really care for them. Yeah it was good to sit down for a bit and get off my feet but it didn't have the camaraderie of a live craps table.

My boss went out there and kept getting his ass kicked on the live craps tables and then he's go sit down at a Shoot To Win machine and knock it off for a couple grand each time.

They are literally in every single casino in Vegas that I know of. I actually don't mind playing them for a couple of reasons:

I usually play them with my wife who can't handle the swings of a live table that's $10 or more. Can always play bubble craps for $5 and usually $3. (Only 2x odds but whatever...)

It's a fun way to kill time. I will just throw in 40 or 60 bucks and can usually play on that for a long time. Once in a while the prop bets get hot and I'll run that up to 500-1000. You also don't kill your average as you don't get any points for playing.

They're no substitute for the real thing, but they offer a nice break from the "real action". As every craps player knows, sometimes the real thing is brutal and you need to stop the bleeding.

Most casinos have them, but not all. The wynn & encore definately don't, when I stay there I walk over to V/P, they have a few of them. I have seen them at Bellagio and Aria too. I like to use these machines to warm up for the real thing and have a cocktail, or if the tables are packed...

Why won't these machines award points for play?

Not sure, but almost all I've seen have a little sign saying this machine does not accept FP or award points.

I have seen some (maybe at CET properties?? I can't recall) that awarded points, but it was something like $100 wagered per point. Better than nothing but either way you're not getting any significant comps from your play on these machines.

From my trip in January, I remember playing Shoot to Win Craps at Luxor, MGM Grand, & Mandalay Bay. I earned Mlife points for my play on the machines at Luxor & MB (not sure at what rate, but I do know I received some), but MGM Grand's machine did not award any points.

I got awarded points at the CET places I played at last year.

I do love the live table though! This is good for me and whoever to sit next to each other and get drinks and chat it up pre-game. Main reason I asked was I wasn't sure if they got yanked from casinos like the other "whatever it's called" video craps game.

was just out there two weeks ago, plenty of them around and I think CET is the only one to give comp points

I also feel it's almost everywhere, but in addition to that, I found that the odds seem to be worsened somewhat compared to my memory. On the Mirage machine (2 weeks ago), for example, all 16 to 1 odds are now 15 to 1, and hardway bets pay either 9 to 1 (6/8) or 7 to 1 (4/10).

I usually enjoy playing on these machines as a break from the real deal, but I stopped playing at the Mirage machine because I can't convince myself to accept the worse odds. Not sure about other places though.

That's what it's supposed to be. You might be thinking of 10 FOR 1 payouts, which is the same thing as 9 TO 1. They do have some other things that aren't the best, like 2 and 12 pay double on the field and limited odds (many only offer 2x odds), but overall it's a fair trade off if you're looking for low limit craps.
