You ever do it and survive?

I haven't paid for a room in Vegas since 2008 and I'm going 9/15-9/18 on a 3 day comp. However, the forth day where ever I stay will cost me $$$. So, I was thinking I check out Friday and my flight leaves at 2pm on Saturday just winged. How bad can it be?

I have enough HH points to book a stay at the Tropicana, but even that bothers me that I'd have to spend my points.

So, I'm thinking of trying it and if worse comes to shove, and I can't handle it, I'll just book a room while im there.

Am I crazy trying to do this?

I'd imagine some can pull it off and not feel like death warmed over but not many.

One thing we learned quickly was when taking a redeye home to book the extra day so we would have the room until leaving for the airport at 9-10ish.

Doing it while checking out at noon was brutal. I remember sitting down at a slot machine at the Mirage once ready to fall asleep. The full weight of my bodily and sensory abuse of four days hit me. Finally went to the airport and the flight home was awful.

I don't even like taking red eyes any longer let alone being without a room.

Doing at the beginning of a trip seems rough too.

Have you looked at other resorts/loyalty programs for comp nights?

Like if it were me I'd probably be spending the first 3 nights at Monte Carlo or Aria and then for the 4th night, even though its a Friday, I could still get a free night at a Total Rewards property.

As for the notion of going a night without a room: I am sure a lot of people have done it in the past, just depends on if its right for you or not. In my case I'd rather pay for the room: hard to go wrong having a bathroom, bed and shower available.

Might also think about what you are going to do during that time: if you get a later, free, checkout that means you'll have to be out of the room around 1-2PM Friday afternoon. If you are going to boot around Las Vegas until noon the next day then what are you going to do? Just gamble the whole time? You can check your luggage at any of the hotels on The Strip but then once you do you probably don't want to keep going back for it and moving it to other properties so you will need to stay in the area or then you have to get back there before heading back to the airport.

And I think for me, if I had to do this I would probably do it on the first night than the last night - my Vegas trips are usually a lot of GO GO GO and drinking and carousing and late night gambling sessions that by the time the last day hits I'm usually pretty worn out so the likelihood of me surviving 20-22 hours without a room would be much higher on the first night than the last night.

Haven't done it myself, but as an option, you could get a day pass to one of the spas in the morning. Crash in a lounge chair for a few hours and take a power nap, shower, and head home.

I'm agin it. Even if you don't feel inconvenienced yourself, think of the poor bastard sitting beside you on a plane, after you've been up 24h. If you can play enough for a 3 day comp, surely you can hold back $100 from those three days and get a room with a free shuttle to the airport. Unless you're planning on sitting on a park bench or begging for your last day, you'll spend $100 anyways, so don't be proud. Best case, save $150 from the first few nights, give a little play to some off the map property, then have an offer for the next time you need four nights.

It's rough. I remember on one of my first trips to vegas many years ago where I had a red eye flight that left at midnight. I checked out and 11 am and tried to beast it the whole day without a room. It was a huge mistake. It was death after you are all partied out. We ended just drinking like crazy then taking a nap in the sports book.

I would recommend getting a cheap room. You have to beast it for 24 hours which is crazy. Beasting it out for 12 hours way bad, I couldn't imagine 24+ hours. pay 20 bucks and get a room or hooters or something. Atleast you will have a place to chill out and lay down even though it is greezy as shit. I will never make that mistake without going for 12 hours.

Book the extra day and talk to a host the night before checkout to see if they can comp the extra day.

I don't see problem taking a red eye without a room. I'm rarely in the room between 11am and 11pm when you'd have to be at the airport. Now, staying up the whole night is another story. Friend of mine never uses the room when he goes to casino for a day or two. He just stays up and plays. There's no way I could or would want to go without a room for the whole night. I love to sleep, especially on vacation.

You can pay them the $100 for the room (or whatever), or pay them hundreds when you continue to make stupid bets in your self imposed stupor.

    Just saying.

It sounds a lot easier when you're sitting at home on your comfy couch and well rested. When reality hits in Las Vegas, you end up getting a room at Hooters casino, then leaving 5 hours early to go to McCarran because you're not sure which is worse...airport slots or the acts that were committed in your room prior to you checking in. If that wood paneling could talk...

I mean...so I've heard from other people who tried it long long ago. ;)

Not only would you be exhausted, we are talking about the heat of summer. Think about how you would smell going that long without a shower, I am sure those on the plane are not going to be too thrilled about the BO. Get a room for the night or cut your trip short a day. Its really not worth it.

I like to test my endurance in various capacities and this was tried out once on a busy ($$) Saturday nite in Vegas. Never again.
Fortunately, I had a rental car. By 3:00 am, I couldn't take it anymore and drove out to Railroad Pass and slept in their parking lot for a couple hours.
    Very dumb idea.

nostresshere nailed it. You will end up costing yourself more in the long run by hanging out in a casino instead of sleeping in a room.

Yep same here - brutal. I'd just finished four days of little sleep, lots of booze and tons of gambling. I was spent.

After the redeye and getting home I slept about 16-18hrs.

Hell on one of our SB trips I went ham the first night because I hadn't been to Vegas in 18mo. Actually went to the room to sleep and said nahhhh and went back down. Hit a wall at 6am. Got a second or third wind shortly thereafter until my buddy arrived. Went to get our straight razor shaves and I fell asleep in the chair and didn't feel like doing shit the rest of the night. Started me off on a bad note.

Great point! I was going to comment that it's just false savings, you'll pay more for the lack of sleep one way or another!

I applaud people that can do this. I tried and failed. My very first trip after turning 21 a buddy and I drove from San Diego on a Friday afternoon. We didn't arrive until 11pm and I thought it wouldn't be a problem. We couldn't find a room anywhere anyway (Vegas newbies). So we headed to Binions, back when they actually had rooms and bout 3am I was falling fast, and went to the front desk to see if they had a room. They didn't have a room available but the lady was hopeful a room that got no-showed would be released soon. I didn't get that room until 4:30am and it couldn't have come soon enough. Good luck!
