I am heading to Vegas in the beginning of June, for the first day and a half I am staying at Texas Station. (I like to try a new off strip and downtown property on every trip.) I have a few questions never having been there. My flight gets in early (11am) on a Tuesday, will they let me check in early? Is the $20 dollar trick necessary, is there any specific room i would want? Also, I have heard some sketchy details about the neighborhood, can I walk across the street to the Rancho Fiesta and be relatively safe? (I am a big guy 6'4' 350lbs).

I believe that they have an early check in option for $15 (at least Sunset Station did a couple of years ago)

You can walk across the street and be safe from people. Just don't do it drunk. It is a tough crossing in terms of traffic.

I happened to mention to a dealer at another casino that I had stopped at the Walmart behind Texas Station on my way over to Aliante and she said that that was a very crappy area of town (that Texas Station is in)...

You get in at 11.... By the time you get your luggage, taxi or rental car and make the trek to North Vegas, you're looking at close to 1 pm. I think you'll be fine with a regular checkin. Remember, you're at TX Station....
