Heading to the USA in 2 weeks and are very looking forward to it.

We have some last questions regarding the MGM Grand and the Venetian.

We are going to have a rental car, can we just drive to the parking structures (do not need valet parking or bellhops for our luggage!) or do we have to check-in first for having access to the parking structures?

    Is non-valet parking really free?

Is there a recommendable Wal Mart or other store near MGM?
(I need to buy american candy, can't wait for Reeses Pieces White, Wal Mart is like heaven for me...it feels like everything is 50 % off from our pricing :nworthy:)

    sooo excited

You can self park at anytime. Yes, self park and valet are free.

Is non-valet parking really free? Just tipping!

Is there a recommendable Wal Mart or other store near MGM? Just drive on E Tropican in direction to the airport. Stay on Trop for a couple miles and there will be a Walmart on the right. I prefer the one on S Eastern Av. just behind the airport. Imo they're better stocked, but the first one is easier to find.

Like you, I prefer to park my own car. I can usually retrieve my own car faster than the valet can. Having said that, you may find it more convenient to use the valet upon your due to the very long walk from the parking structure to the hotel lobby. Then, after retrieving your car from valet the first time, use self-parking after that.

There is another store called Target that will likely have the same candy options at similar prices. (You will also find a wide variety of other items from clothing to electronics.) Target stores are located closer to the Strip than Walmart stores. The one that I visit is located on Blue Diamond Road, which is approximately 3 miles south of the MGM. There is another Target located at Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway, which is not far from the Venetian. Probably 15 minutes to either location.

If you insist upon Walmart, you might visit the location on that borders the eastern border of the airport. It is located on Eastern, between Sunset Road and Russell Road (north of Sunset, south of Russell).

You'll probably love the candy stores on the Strip like M&M and Hersheys!

the valet vs. self-parking choice just comes down to how convenient the parking garages are, which really just comes from experience. personally, i find self-parking at Wynn a breeze. over at NY NY or MGM, i always valet.

The walmart east of the airport on 215 is big and new. Not the closest to the Strip but easy access from the rental car terminal. I think there is also one at Sahara and Decatur, and probably several others.

Alternatively, there is a Target at Maryland and Flamingo. https://goo.gl/maps/elDsh

I'm sure you are aware that the US Dollar is pretty strong right now. We were in Spain recently and the prices at a Carrefour seemed to be lower than at Walmart (accounting for the exchange rate) which I didn't think was possible in the developed world. Maybe Germany is more expensive than Spain though. We passed through Berlin for 1 night and I thought the restaurant was slightly less than what I would have paid for a similar restaurant in the USA.

Yes, it really is free, and so is valet parking for anyone walking into the casino, but please tip the valet at least a couple dollars. I realize it is not customary in Europe but many of the people you will interact with get paid very little and depend on tips, aside from which it is customary to tip in the US unless the service was really bad. Think of all the cash you will save on parking, just give a little bit back to the valet and everyone wins.

Caveat: parking downtown LV for the most part is no longer free unless you are staying at a hotel..

Thank you everyone for your helpful information and hints!

Sure we are aware of that. I have been to the USA a few times and I have never ever had the luck of having a strong € when booking or during the vacation itself...hooray.
Most things still feel very cheap to me, especially non-alcoholic drinks, candy, dairy products, franchise-restaurants, clothing (for example: Levis 501 Jeans, USA: ~ 40 $, Germany: ~110 $)

as the Dollar got really strong since in the past months I think it will be a little frustrating..I will think about it when buying some higher priced stuff...anyway, we will be VERY happy to be in the US again :)
