    My Trip Report

Taking my Dad to Reno. Dropping my son off at his Mom's in Sacramento. Hope to have plenty of slot porn.

Sixt upgraded me to a Prius. I will try to provide my impressions of the car.

Good luck! Haven't been to Reno in what seems like forever (probably only about 8 months though). Love playing at the Cal Neva. Low limits, cheap drinks and eats. Actually booked a comped room there once only to take advantage of their free wifi for a Fantasy football draft.

A month and a half too early for me. Hope your jackpots are monstrous.

I hit a $1600 handpay in the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately I was down $700 in the first 45 minutes, but now I'm back up. I immediately went back to the room because it's now 1:30AM and I need sleep.

My camera died so I asked someone else to take a picture and text it to me. Aha. My camera had just enough juice. Here it is:

    A $5 Triple Double Diamond

Screw the TCs. Tomorrow will be another day. Having problems going to sleep, but I'm absolutely not going back downstairs.

haha, just walk across the street and say what's up to Brad (crap dealer) and ask him if he ever saw a guy shoot the dice for 2 hours, LOL.

Nice hit! Can't wait to see more slot porn. Good luck during the rest of your trip.

An early end to the trip

So, I got up at 6:00 after about 3 hours sleep. Played around Harrahs for about 1.5 hours and spent about $500. Still up, not matter. Got my (89 y.o.) Dad at 7:30AM and drove to Peppermill (about 15 minutes). Dad was grumpy. I gave hiim $300 and told him to play with that. Ran 5 Keno games during breakfast. Because of the format (2 games running), 5 games took extremely long and I spent another $100.

Went back to Harrahs. Dad was having trouble remembering the room number and the hotel name. Remember that he suffers from mild dementia from the AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) incident 5 years ago.

Sensing that he wasn't "happy", I told him that if he wasn't "happy" being in Reno we could just go home.

He kept complaining about having "no luck" and not hitting anything. I sat him down and had him play one of my machines (Buffalo Stampede) and he just "looked" like he didn't want to be there. This was putting pressure on me, because when he wasn't playing (I later found out he had no money left even though he kept turning down offers from me), he would follow me around the casino.

I asked him if he needed money, and he said no. I then saw him that the ATM, and was getting rejected (I assume that he had reached the daily limit). I was supposed to go to see "The Avengers" at 9:30, but sensing my Dad's distress, I pressed him for an answer. I eventually got him to tell me that he wanted to go home. I told him:

1)I needed to put In play to justify the room comp
2)The Gift Card giveaway wasn't happening until 1PM (it was now 10:30AM.

I told him that I needed to put in some time, and he should go to the room and wait for me. I would be there at 12 noon to take him to lunch, and then we would leave after I got the gift cards.

I played around and eventually made a comeback with some smaller jackpots (300, 400, and 500), to bring myself back to where I was when the morning started.

Had lunch, then got the gift cards, went to the room, got Dad, and we left. On the way out he apologized for being "a pill".

So, I drove for 6 hours on 3 hours sleep, but I did return the rntal car early, and got back one days rental and LDW.

So, the final toll after expenses and all is I'm up $600. Pays for my proxy entry into the May 29th HL jackpot pull.

Dad has agreed that I will not invite him to any more Reno weekends. Day trips to Cache Creek are fine.

Sorry if this post was more like a vent against my Dad, but now that we have the issue settled, I can go to Reno on the weekends without the guilt of not having asked him.

Sounds like your dad is doing pretty good for 89 though. I hope mine is around that long. Cherish it while you can.

Ahhhh- that's the way it goes. Good on ya for trying to take your dad, and, for cutting the trip short for his comfort even though it was frustrating. Glad in the end you were up!!

Parents can be a lil frustrating as they get up in age. My father was 85 when he passed 5yrs ago. I miss him dearly. We used to hit the local casino every Sunday. Day trips were better then overnighters in my case. Cherish these moments.

Before my mom passed, I used to take her to our local and wheel her around in a wheel chair the casino provided. She would often forget the slot routine ( when I said go, she would pull the lever) but she enjoyed every minute of it. Both my parents are gone now but they would get excited about going to the casino a week before we left. I know it's a pain now but one day, after they're long gone, you'll remember those trips .My dad, the gambler he was, would always spend all that he brought to the casino. I always made sure that there was enough for lunch for the three of us. You'll never regret doing what you're doing for dad.
