MyVegas Does it Make Sense For Me to Select Bellago Buffet over a Night @ MB?

I was happy last year with our redemptions towards shows/food, etc. This year things looking decidedly different. Wondering if there is any conventional rule of thumb re 'value' as to redeeming points that I'm missing.:confused2:

Will be stopping in Vegas for just 1 night in October. Didn't think I'd be back this year, so I had slacked off, now playing catch up. Need to choose wisely or win big between now & then on myvegas lol

Had really hoped to a snag a room via myvegas points, but only Mandalay Bay is available. Excalibur is showing it 'could' be booked but reward has been consistently sold out. Honestly, not sure if I'd want to finally try a stay there since I have other options. Several friends have crossed the Excalibur off their list even if comp'd.

Have never stayed @ MB. It's on bucket list, pool area looks great as do the pictures of rooms I've seen. I like that end of strip for short stays due to easy access to airport. 'almost' have enough points for MB.

I do enjoy MGM and the pool area there. Since I don't gamble much, was surprised to get an email offer for Tower @ $53 a night, after tax & fees approx. $90. Could've had suite for another $30 a night.

Not sure if I should sit pat w/MGM & use reward for Bellagio buffet (another thing I haven't tried) or go with the MB & pay for my own food.

    TIA

    Hmm....

If it was me, I'd probably stay at MB. You'll still have resort fee to pay, but overall you should be up what, $50-60? That will more than pay for the Bellagio buffet.

I haven't stayed at either, but I want to try MB someday too.

I just got back from my first stay at Mandalay bay. I liked the room and casino. Was there for conference so didn't make it to pool but it looked really nice. I am not a fan of location but wasn't too bad to take tram to Excalibur and then walk to mid strip. I played poker tournament at Excalibur, never again. Bathrooms didn't seem clean, and the casino air quality felt off to me.

Catzilla - I believe MB resort fee is same as MGM, so it would work out to be approx. $60 difference. Looked up the pricing @ Bellagio, didn't realize weekday prices were less...$60 for the dinner buffet. A push haha

Fligster - I agree, something is different at Excalibur's casino (lighting perhaps?) always seems dark & somewhat gloomy to me. The buffet used to be decent for breakfast/lunch, but I've seen some dismal reviews. MB's bayside was pretty good last year for lunch.

Even if I dawdle should be able to take the tram from MB to Excalibur, then walk to Monte Carlo & grab that tram to get up to Bellagio in under an hour.

    thanks!

I'm a big Mandalay Bay fan. Stayed there for two nights last August via MyVEGAS, then moved to Monte Carlo for the rest of our trip and didn't like it there much at all. Stayed at MB again for MLK weekend in January and had a great time again. Tentative plan for my hypothetical trip in August is to stay at Cosmo for two nights on a comp and then close out the trip at MB.

Some have mentioned that the MB rooms are beginning to show some wear - while that may be true, I didn't notice anything close to the magnitude that it would cause me to stay elsewhere. I think the rooms are great.

I think the bathrooms are a little dated, but definitely not awful or making me want to stay elsewhere. The rooms are supposed to get refreshed sometime this year as well so that will be nice.

I have stayed at the Excal but it was in 2005, back then it was Motel 6/Super 8 quality and I was fine with it. Did not have a tub, only shower. I am staying on a 2 night comp at MB this coming trip

Bathroom not the fanciest but was clean and I didn't think the bathroom was too bad. Was at MB last week. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

:faint: The dinner buffet at Bellagio is $60? Holy crap. That probably explains why I haven't eaten there yet.

Haha, does look nicer than I remembered. I think it was something with the shower that made me say that. But regardless, it's not a bad room by any means. Bathroom is a nice size for a standard room.

now I'm really confused, need to go back and look to see difference between chef's table & dinner grub.

fligster - that bathroom looks very nice to me. Seems to be bigger/nicer than tower MGM

I only stay midweek so I'd be getting the $35 dinner grub. :)

    Thanks bruce.
