Taking a solo trip in June. After staying with local friends for a couple of days I'll move downtown for at least a few nights. Bad knees so the less I walk the better. I like to watch the morning news with coffee and the afternoon edition with a glass of wine in a comfortable chair. I looked at Fremont website and the room looked ok with what was pictured with an overstuffed chair. Rooms are small, but that's fine if clean. Location is great as are rates. Can anyone tell me about the rooms?

    Good Luck,
    Ric at Joes

You've got it nailed. Rooms are small, but nice. Very good staff, rooms are always clean and everything works. If its just you, you'll be fine as I'm assuming you don't need a huge bathrooom. Fremont is perfect for someone with walking difficulties as elevators are essentially right next to check in and empty into the casino.

Thanx for the info. Does the room have a comfortable chair?

    Good Luck!

Its been a while since I've stayed there and all the roooms have been remodeled. I do know they have a chair for reading, relaxing, etc., but I don't know how comfortable it is.

If you want quiet, I would recommend staying at the Cal rather than the Fremont. Both are Boyd properties, but the Cal is a block off Fremont St., so is away from the Fremont Experience and the bands, etc.Rooms at the Cal are also slightly bigger

Ask for the 6th floor, as far back from Fremont as possible.
Every time I've stayed there on a comp, they always put me on 6...perhaps because it's a smoking floor & I always ask for a smoking room...point is, I've never had any noise problems there.

Rooms are the Fremont are perfectly fine for a single guy or a couple that doesn't require a big luxurious room. The rooms and bathrooms are small but they're clean. Every room has a small wall-mounted safe...just don't lose the key. The heating & AC units are old and it would be great to see them updated, but they work well enough.

My rooms have always had a comfortable padded easy chair to sit in. It's not a recliner, but it's great for sitting at the room's small circular table with my laptop. The tables aren't fixed to the floor so you can arrange the chair and table in any configuration that you want.

I've never had a problem with noise in my room...even when I was on the 4th floor right across from Binion's taxi area. I got a front row seat to some great husband/wife fights and some loud altercations between cabbies, but when I closed the windows and went to bed I was never bothered by street noise. Perhaps rooms closer to the FSE are more susceptible to noise from live music.

There's a Dunkin' Donuts downstairs near the elevators, so you'll have easy access to coffee and donuts. There's also a small food court next to DD where you can grab breakfast in a to-go box and take it up to your room.

With its centralized location and cheap room rates with NO resort fees, the Fremont is the perfect place to stay downtown. It's kinda like the equivalent of what the Imperial Palace used to be on the strip.

I want to echo it is a great casino if you have mobility issues. Off the elevator to the Dunkin Donuts for your coffee and onto the casino floor in like 10 to 15 feet.

I did not have a problem with noise but I went to sleep at 6am!

Rooms are very nice and the chair was comfy for the little I sat in it.

Wife and I have been staying at the GN, Gold Tower for a number of years. We love staying at GN but would gamble other places. Last August we gambled at bunch at Boyd's casinos and were offered a 4 night comped stayed at Fremont with meals. We took the offer and did a five night stay this past March.

Fremont is our new home. Room much smaller than GN, but safe, comfortable and clean and great access to the casino and Fremont Street as the GN gold tower has.

The one chair in the room was comfortable. We had a room near the north end of the hotel on the fifth floor and no noise at all. I would think any room north of the elevators would be ok as far as noise goes.

Solo traveler too. I get comped nights at the D and at the Fremont, so I always stay a few nights at each. When you check in at the Fremont, be sure to ask for a room close to the elevators (I have mobility issues and they've always accommodated this request for me) and the front elevators (versus the elevators across from the registration desk) are preferable. For my most recent trip in March, I noticed they were charging an additional fee when booking on-line if you wanted to request a room close to the front elevators. Not sure if they would charge extra if they have a room available near the front elevators when you check in.....but it's worth asking. The front elevators, literally, open directly on the casino floor. Probably 30-40 steps away from Dunkin Donuts, the Lanai Express and the craps tables! Enjoy youself............Downtown is my Vegas home away from home!

I'm a big fan of the Fremont as well. The rooms are small but if that's not a problem for you, I think you'll like it. I have geezer knees and bad feet and one of my favorite things about the Fremont is how easy it is to get around there. As Canary mentioned, they are very accommodating about getting you a room near the elevators if you ask for one. It's a small hotel so even the elevators near the desk are not a difficult walk. During my last stay, I took the front elevators a lot. They weren't as close to my room as the other ones but it was a pretty short and easy walk--and trust me, my cranky feet complain about every extra step so when I say it's an easy walk, it's an easy walk.

It's a smallish casino and it's easy to find your way around in it. There are several eating options there. The buffet is pretty decent and very reasonably priced. I hear that the Second Street Grill is very good but I haven't tried it. I did try Tony Roma's once and would not recommend it. Lanai Express is a snack bar with some pretty good options. The French Dip is surprisingly good. There's a 24 hour Duncan Donuts and a candy shop that isn't cheap but it sure is good. Try the truffles.

If those options don't appeal to you or you just want to try something else, there are many options available.Unlike most strip hotels, you don't have to walk for seeming miles to find your way out and the exits are easy to find. It's located right in the middle of Fremont Street so you're close to lots of things. Magnolia's at Four Queens is a pretty good 24 hour diner. Binion's also has a really good BBQ place and a good diner. If you plan to take the bus anywhere, the stop is right across the street between this hotel and Binion's.

I've had rooms right on top of the canopy for the Fremont Street Experience and not had a problem with the noise. I could hear the music when it played but it wasn't that loud. Then again, that sort of thing doesn't bother me much so if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a high floor back from Fremont Street.

One other thing about the rooms is that they don't have drapes but slatted shutters instead. Some people have complained about morning sun waking them up. I use a sleep mask so it doesn't bother me.

One of the biggest selling points to the Fremont is the staff. They are probably the friendliest and most helpful group I've come across in anywhere I've stayed in Vegas. They've been excellent about accommodating any requests and the few times I've brought a problem to them, they got right on fixing it.

Another huge plus is that they're one of the last places not to charge a resort fee. You do have to pay for WIFI access but it's only about $10 a day--half the cost of the cheapest resort fee I've been charged in other hotels. Your mileage may vary but WIFI is really the only thing covered in a resort fee that I've ever used.

I'm not on the verge of immobility, but the shorter the walk, the better. This one reason I'm staying DT again. I especially like the location in the middle of everything. I thought about the Nugget in the Carson Tower. I can easily afford this room, but I thought that for more than double the price incl resort fee would be crazy for maybe two non sleep hours a day. The EC has rooms I like, but it's a bit isolated and gives me a reason not to peruse the main area down there. I usually split my nights between DT and some locals joint after staying with my friends, but I think I'll just stay DT this time. Not bringing a laptop so wifi is no concern. I'll check emails on Sue's computer before I leave their house and again Tues at a library. I just plan to play a bit more this trip and eat at a few places I haven't tried before. Glad you mentioned Binions as I love BBQ. I'll probably try the Sec St Grill as I've heard good things too. Might even go to Binions steak house like I've been meaning to for about 20 years! What I need to do is make up a wish list for eats and places to see. Not a to do list thought. Years ago a few of us did that as we had a newbie traveling with us. We sat down and made a list of things to see (aside from golf courses) and came up with maybe fifteen things to do. I think we got to maybe two of them and not by plan. I hope to check off at least one item per day. We'll see how it actually plays out.
    Thanks for the info.

    Good Luck!

Sounds like you do your planning much the same way I do, Ric. I get through those tauntingly slow weeks before a Vegas trip by making lists of places I'd like to go when I finally get there. Out of those, I pick a few that I want to be sure to get to and then the other stuff I either get to or not, generally while I'm in the area of something from the Gotta Do/See/Eat list.

I think you'll really like Binions BBQ. If you get up to the Container Park, try Big Ern's BBQ. It's also good

Just arrived back from my stay at the Fremont.

Even though I am not disabled, I have had some issues this year and longs walks are difficult. I was able to get a room near the elevators, which was perfect. Our room was 504, which was near the elevators that drop off right in the casino, not near the lobby - but they are not that far apart.

Out of five stays there, this is the first time we ran into any difficulty. The first room we were put in was warm and I could not seem to get the air to get any cooler. I called the front desk and we were put in a room that was the farthest from the elevator - just not doable. The third was the charm - lol - as I said, it was right near the elevator and we were able to cool it down a bit more than the first room. Still not ideal, but you are able to adjust the air conditioning in your room.

I have decided, though, that I would rather not stay at the Fremont if I am traveling with someone other than my husband. The bathroom is tiny so trying to take a shower and get ready is really difficult. Also, IMO, there is just not enough counter space for two women's things, no matter how much we tried to consolidate.

The room has a small table and one chair, which is comfortable, but not an ideal setup for two people.

I love the feel of the Fremont and find myself playing there 75% of the time.

I will be alone, so space is not an issue. I like the location and having a comfortable chair to watch the morning and afternoon news is a must. These two portions of the day are Vegas rituals for me at this point. I stayed at the 4 Queens a few years back and my only complaint was the lack of a comfortable, so this is good to hear. Thanks for the info.

    Good Luck!

Shelbymae - no coffee maker. There is a Dunkin Donuts in the Fremont but I am also the type that wants my coffee BEFORE I head out for the day.

The Golden Gate suite does have a Keurig in the room, which is awesome. I am not sure if the regular rooms do - I think so...
