Why can't the Las Vegas Club just give up the ghost?

LVC was a Downtown mainstay! It was famous for having what was supposed to be the best BJ rules in Las Vegas. I've heard these days it's a fading memory of it's former self. It can't be making any money so maybe they should just close it down.

I miss LVC. Had some great vp and promos back in the day. Last time I was in there most of the poker had been removed and the only decent pay schedules were some coin out machines at the quarter level.

yeah, that is a great thread vic.

as for the original question. a casino is worth more when it's open than when it is closed, even if it is losing a few bucks a week. perhaps the folks at Plaza are gun shy about sinking a lot of money into LVC after how weak (seemingly) their efforts have paid dividends at the mothership.

it wouldn't seem to take a lot of efforts to get the casino/restaurant vibe going at LVC, even if the hotel towers remain closed. but obviously it's not as easy as it sounds.

They aren't spending any money on it, the hotel is closed, and I don't know what restaurants are still open, if any. They aren't supporting the FSE according to what I read here. So, expenses have been cut to the bone. Maybe they are making money, on nothing but the house edge. There's other places in Nevada like this, even in Las Vegas, where there's nothing at all but gambling to do and the place is a dump. It is just that we Vegas regulars are unaccustomed to seeing this on Freemont or on the strip.

I do believe it can't continue on forever like that, or else the Western, the Gold Spike, Westward Ho, etc. would still be with us. As with any home or business, you can only put off essential renovations and upgrades for so long. Unless you are an historic building, I guess. This is doubly true with entertainment venues.

This used to be my favorite place to stay and play. It's sad, but what are you going to do?

I still enjoy a swing through LVC every trip. Nice dealers, great pit critters, good BJ rules etc.

I actually enjoy LVC for some dark side craps. I'll be the only person in the joint so I don't have people making their snide remarks about me "betting against" them.

I'll continue to go to LVClub as long as they have the old Joker's Wild quarter machines. Love me some JP!

The thing to remember when it comes to cost, yes, they are paying for utilities and the staff, but I would venture to bet that most of the staff is tipped minimum wage workers (maybe less than minimum wage) so they maybe taking in profit even if it is minimal.

personally I think they're holding out for a buyer (such as the rumored CVS) but keeping that gaming license active just in case.

When I was there in December, I felt very uncomfortable even walking through there. But I did love the gift shop right on Fremont. I normally don't feel uncomfortable anywhere on Fremont. I traveled from ElCo to MSS at all times of the day/night. Perhaps because it was deserted and dark in many corners. Toward the end of my trip I wouldn't even cut though it to get to the Cal.

It's a funny weird dark hall with no partitions and the worst beer pouring technique I've ever seen, but I still kinda liked it.

Or the other $5 3:2 games. Or the dealers.

Get the bathrooms cleaned and rotate in some new (or vintage) slots. That place has potential.

Bring back the 10X odds on craps and get rid of the crapless craps! In fact, bring back decent craps odds at the Plaza too. Why would I play 3-4-5X at the LVC and Plaza when I can go across the street to Golden Gate for 10X, or up the street to Main Street Station with 20X?

The management at the Plaza is terrible. I used to stay and play at the Plaza and LVC a lot back in the day when they gave you an honest game. Then Tamares came in and thought they were the Golden Nugget. They have since learned that they aren't. A month ago, out of the blue, I had a casino host call me and ask me to stay there for a few nights. I told her that unless they change their craps game, I have no reason to play there. Heck, even the Downtown Grand has seen the light and gone to 10X odds. The host told me she has heard that a lot. Sooooo, why doesn't the Plaza do something to compete for customers?

Short story about how short sighted the management is there. I was there with my wife and my two sons who had recently become of age. Of course, the craps table at the Plaza was dead, so it was one where we could all play together and I could teach my kids how to play. Well, we started having a good time, winning a little money and some other people joined the table, making 8 players. The pit critter then came over and upped the table minimum to $10 from $5. I said, we're grandfathered in aren't we? I was told, no. So. I said we're outta here and we all colored up and left. I mean every other table downtown was $5 since it was the middle of the afternoon. I came back later and the table was back to $5 and deserted. I felt bad for the dealers, many of whom I had known for years. It was the last time I played there. I have no idea why they chase players away.

+1. Indeed, getting the bathrooms clean, and keeping them clean should not even have to be mentioned. I like the BJ there, but I won't play there because the restrooms are beyond atrocious. Their neglect is inexcusable.

The Las Vegas Club used to have a lot of sports memorabilia. Maybe they could turn it into some kind of sports bar/casino type thing. I do fear that it will be lost with all the newer type places moving in.
