Visiting Vegas in August?

Hi

I'm from Birmingham in the UK and have travelled to Vegas on vacation twice before. I am planning a trip this year and it seems the best rate on flight and hotel I can get is that last week in August.

My question is, what is it like for crowds in August? Is everywhere really busy and is it REAL hot? I'm planning August 23rd for 9 nights.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

depends how much heat you like, last time i was there in august there was a boxing fight so thee was more than the normal crowd but it wasnt packed...and I like heat so the summer months it doesnt bother me. I was in black jeans, shoes and a black shirt...others said it was really hot,

 

great thank you. I love the heat personally so not too crowded, that is good. I was expecting it to be peak vacation season as it is in UK.

 

The room rates will give you a good idea of what type of crowds to expect. If they remain cheap, then it will probably be fairly slow that week.

You'll be there just before Labor Day (1st Monday in Sept.). I'd imagine that most folks planning a trip during that time of year would probably wait until the holiday.

One thing is certain. It will be hot. Damn hot. And dry. So pack the sunscreen and moisturizer and drink plenty of water.

One thing about August is that many shows take a break, so check out the schedules well in advance.

It will be hot. Expect 100 - 105 Fahrenheit every day.

Resist the temptation to touch metal railings outside in the middle of the day.

I myself take a siesta through the hottest part of the day.

 

So is an oven.

 

Great advice all, thanks so much. Basically, the reason I found rates are lower is because its less popular due to the heat. Its supply/demand. Looks like a goer for me then, with plenty of sun protection.

 

We have gone in August the last 10 years or so. (hubby's birthday is the 25th & we are there to celebrate) Yes, it has been very hot but the casinos are cold. We stay at Bally's or Paris and only a short walk outside to get to most places. One year it got up to 115 ....hubby hated it, I loved it. I started each morning by the pool with my fav foo-foo drink. Crowds were much lower than when we go to MM or NYE.

 

My group has our annual trip every August and love it! I know people joke about the "dry" heat. Yes, it is hot.....kind of like sticking your head in an oven. However, there have been trips that I have left from temps of 85 with 85 percent humidity.....I gladly take the dry heat over our high humidity. My Houston son that joins the sisters, also welcomes the dry heat from his Texas summers.

It also makes a difference as we exclusively stay downtown and avoid the strip as much as possible (unless we have a show planned). Between the canopy and the closeness of the downtown casinos, the 110 temps are not an issue. We do use the pool daily.....however, we use it early in the morning, i.e., 8:30-10:30., while the temps are in the 90 range.

Regarding how busy.....there are times in the evening walking on FSE, that it still can be hard to maneuver through the crowds.

Keep in mind, these are only my thoughts on downtown in August.....not much experience in walking the strip during that time period.

Whenever you do go, have a great trip.

 

We took a trip in early August last year. It wasn't too bad, the temps were in the mid to high 90's. But that isn't the norm. It easily gets into the 100's.

One of the paradoxes of this is that you might need to bring a light sweater. The casinos can get really chilly, especially if you play machines for hours on end.

It's not too bad. If you can, find a tour to Death Valley. Great time to visit one of our National Parks! Expect near zero percent humidity and 60 to 65 C.

Bring an umbrella for shade! And sunglasses. Quite an experience!

I'm returning to London (actually Bearsted, Kent) in November. Already know the weather! Anticipating great pubs once again!

Siwalker - we are also going at that time for 5 nights and have noticed that Zumanity is Black that week (but possibly open on one of your later nights). Compared to the 25-30C combined with the 85% humidity that we get on the West Coast of Canada (which is considered a rain forest), I will gladly take 40C and 0% humidity.

death valley in the middle of summer hot. no joke. this is the real stuff.

on the bright side though there is an advantage to the dry heat thing in that once you get in a bit of shade it is a bit less hot.

Also walking around in it really takes some guts i mean you have to really brace yourself to do it.

i have spent alot of time in hot places in the military so it doesnt really bug me but there are times when its just downright insultingly hot. For some reason it always feels hottest by venetian. dont know why but always hotter there then anyplace else.

Its always crowded so no getting around that. midweek is a bit better.

If you like young ladies wearing next to nothing then you will be right at home, a major plus in my book.

 

Yep, everyone is dead on. Figure about 110+, but only about 10% humidity. I've seen it get as hot as 120. I'm from Austin, so we're used to 110 days, but we also have the 70%+ humidity. So, it's like a sauna.

But, if you like the heat, you'll love it. Hang out by the pool, and get a nice drink.

 

Once I've been there in late June and I saw 47-48 degrees celsius outside. So, never again. It's dry, so you can walk, but you feel like being slow-cooked outside.

The best months IMHO are:

April
Early May
Late September
October

 

It is less crowded, that's why rates are lower, but it's not really something you're going to notice as a visitor.

If you walked into a room and there were 9 people instead of 10, you wouldn't really notice the diff. But if you were getting paid (ie. tips) based on 9 instead of 10, you'd notice.

Next question if anyone can help me... I've stayed at The Mirage, Trump and Caesars. What's everyone's view on Treasure Island, rooms ok? Pool etc?
