I play slots but have never participated in or even watched a slot tournament. Is it really just a matter of hitting the bet button as fast as you can, nonstop? About how long (minutes?) are the Rounds, or does it vary widely? Any other tips for a slot tourny virgin?
I may play in a tournament in late April, and I need to start training my arm now to get ready ;)

    Thanks!

yup. you got it about right....got to keep tapping the button... most rounds are about 10 minutes if i remember correctly.
one tip. tap with one hand for a couple minutes with a drink in other hand. then switch for a couple minutes....rinse and repeat ;)

Depends on the property. I've seen sessions between 3-15 minutes. They will typically add your scores for 2-3 rounds.

Just focus on your machine and hit the button. Make sure you squeak out every single spin you can during your time.

The format varies. Often there are multiple rounds and the highest cumulative scores advance to a final round. You will be assigned to a machine. Casinos will have a dedicated group of slot machines set up for tournaments. All the machines are preset with credits(usually 500). It is a timed session. There is no need to constantly bang away on the machine....although a lot of people do. Hitting the button as the machine is spinning does nothing.

it depends on the casino and machines...the ones i participated in were 3-5 minutes long...they rope off 20 machines, no drinks or smoking aloud at the machine. when the timer counts down to start you hit either spin or bet max, they are the same for the tournament, no advantage. also you would have to touch the screen to burst ballons which gave you a bonus when it popped up...they have 3 rounds, early-bird 1st day and then 2 rounds the 2nd day. sometimes it will be the highest score they use, sometimes they will add your 2 highest or all three scores.

my first slot tournament was 5 minute rounds, i actually got there late and was only able to do 1 round as they only had 2 rounds left before it was all over...I actually took 1st place and won $10k....every tournament after that has been 3 minute rounds and i havent won any of my rounds since...after i won that 1 tournament, i was included in the slot tournament the next day which was 3 minuites on an old school 25cent real machine...done absolutley no good at all

All properties are different, but rounds/sessions usually vary between 3 and 15 minutes and usually consist of 2 or 3 sessions played over 1 or 2 days (day 1, AM, day 1, PM, day 2, AM)
All properties have their own system but generally:

    1) you need to register for the tournament at the times specified on your invitation, usually late afternoon the day prior to the tournament, or late registration 8-9AM day of the tournament, as an example.
At registration you need your players card and picture ID (drivers license).
You will receive the times you are scheduled to play as well as the machine number for each session.
    example: Session 1 @ 10:15AM Machine 24, Session 2 @ 2:15PM Machine 3, etc
    2) show up about 15 minutes before your scheduled session and the MC/Host will announce further details prior to your session - bring your Players Card, no cellphone use during play.
    3) when countdown gets to zero - just hit the play max or whichever button for the duration of the time - some pound the buttons fast and hard, others play slow and steady and quiet.
    4) Enjoy and hope you win something!

how do you find them? I've always wanted to play in one, but have no idea how to go about getting into one. :)

Ask around at your favorite casino. Most run them in some fashion.

I play in them all the time at Palazzo. We get invites regularly that give free rooms and free entry into the tournament. Their usual pattern is 3 sessions of 10 minutes each, usually on "Flaming 7s" machines. You pound the crap out of the button for 10 minutes and then they record your score. Total all three sessions and there you go. Top 5 or so get cash, everybody else in payout territory gets slot credits. Anybody can register the first day of the tournament by paying a $100 entry fee, so even if you aren't an Invited Guest, you can still play. Once you get on their radar as a competitor, they'll mail you all sorts of invitations.

You'll probably notice too that they space out your sessions to try and keep you in-house for as much of the day as possible. For example, first session at 10:00am, and second session at 1:30 or 2:00pm. Hoping that you'll gamble in the morning between breakfast and your first session, and not really allowing enough time between sessions to plan anything major off-property between sessions either. Not so bad on the strip or downtown, where other properties are close enough to get around between sessions, but at outlying properties (think Sam's Town, Red Rock, whatever) you're kind of stuck until after your second session.

I played in one at Bally's a few years back for $10 and everyone got a free stuffed animal (played to get the animal for the grandkid) and ended up placing for the day ($100) which got me into the finals next day and finished 3rd as I recall for $1500. It was fun and a great return!
