Thank you for taking the time to take these pics. Brought back memories of when we use to stay there.

My wife and I were in the Riviera on our last trip in October. Didn't know it would be our last time ever. Very sad indeed. Thanks for the great photos.

    {blush} You're very welcome. :)

Yes, Riviera, Flamingo, and Tropicana are really the only 50s vintage places left on the Strip. Places like Bally's (original MGM Grand), Circus, and Caesars were new when I started visiting, but they are now becoming the legacy places.

Circus has to be hurtin' now! They will be marooned on an island with their little sister, Slots-A-Fun. No, uh (word here? synergy perhaps?) like in the center-south Strip areas.

Now in a way I consider the Riv's passing to be more honorable than the Stardust/Frontier and such, in that an expanded LVCC is really a Good Thing(tm) and it's not being imploded simply to put up yet another mega-project destined to become a vacant lot at the next economic downturn.

Oh well, so it goes. (And so do I ...) :)

Extremely sad news the Riv is closing. We usually always included a trip to the Riv, the nearby Dennys and Circus Circus for the Tix4tonite booth.Of the 2 casinos, we would have preferred CC to close, but admittedly the Riv has been rxceptionally quiet in recent years.Although smaller than a lot of Strip casinos, the staff were friendly and we witnessed a woman win $390,000 on a WoF progressive years ago, a lot of good memories.

Very cool. I'll be there the last morning and I'll take some pics and post them when I return.

Thanks for the pics DMR. Weird that Caesars is one of the oldest places on the strip. I hope The Trop and The Flamingo can hang on.

One of my favorite Vegas experiences, and call me strange it you want, is walking the sidewalk that runs parallel to the pool. That area still has that vintage Vegas pool feel that you can't get anywhere else.

Woah, there's a Pinball Hall of Fame in there? (pic #9)

Gonna swing by just before it closes just for that; I love me some pinball.

Thanks for the great photos. When I heard the news about the Riv being sold, I booked a two night stay the last week in April; hope to take some memorable photos of my own.

Yes, please do. The stars did not align such that I can make it that day. I would think the evening before would be the real party, however.

Supposedly they rotate machines in and out of there from the original Pinball Museum over on Trop. If you love pinball you will like that place. It's on Trop but I forget exactly where, right by the camera shop that used to be Casey's.

First trip to Vegas in 1984 , stayed at the Riviera. That was back before they added on. Was in its original configuration then. If I had only known.....

That was when there was a parking lot in front.. the hotel itself was set back from the street. I am sure you old timers remember that. It was a fine place then.
Could walk across the street to Circus , and the Stardust.

A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for a while.......
    And way back when.....
I got married at the Riviera
Thanks for the memories!!! Wish I could have returned before she left us!

Thanks for the pics. I was there this past week for a visit.
I guess they wanted to say thanks as I had my best roll of the week there. Walked out up over $400. Very sad that it's closing up, and they're tearing it down.

The dealers I had seamed pretty bummed about it as well, but they didn't really talk too much about it. They even made some jokes when I made bets for them, "Thanks for the retirement fund donation". Thinks like that. Glad I got to visit for 1 last time, and picked up my $1 chip for the collection.

I did not pay that much attention to the Riv back then, even though I've stayed there off and on over the years. IIRC, there were some expansions between the late 1970s and the mid 1980s. I forget exactly when the new facade went up.

I'll add to the thanks. The Riv was where I stayed on my first trip to Vegas as an adult, and though I vowed afterwards to never stay there again (considering we stayed at the Riviera and ate at the Circus Buffet, I'm somewhat shocked I ever even made it back to Vegas!), I still think of it as the place that started it all. Hopefully I get a chance to stop by when I'm in town in a couple weeks.
