The El Cortez web site claims to give you 5% back in free play, up to $50, for cashing your Tax Return. It says to see the slot club for details. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE DETAILS for this offer?
Do you know if you can use the refund immediately or do you need to come back another day? Expect you would cash check at casino cage? Is there a charge?
"The devil is in the details", so what am I missing here? Thanks.

I have done it a few times. The casino cashier will cash the check at face value and provide you with you a voucher that you bring to the slot club. 5% up to $50 will be downloaded to your slot card which you can play off immediately, but some games, notably the downtown deuces, are excluded. We ended up playing ours at the quarter 8/5 bonus machine at the Parlour Bar.

Was driver license good enough for ID even from out of state? No other requirements? Thanks for the info.

They also have the ATM 5% deal too.
You can take up to $1000 out of their ATM and the players club will give you 5% up to $50 in Free Play downloaded to your card.

That's good to know. I knew they offered that last year but didn't see it on their web site for this year. I should be getting income tax refund shortly. I'll save the check to take and then see if my wife can do the ATM. They may not allow that, but I'll still be happy with one or the other. Plus, I'll stop in on Wednesday which is senior day and get our meals 50% off. Cortez goes the extra step to get you to go the extra steps. Works for me!

I presented my CT drivers license - no other ID required.

You should know Westie, with all the LV trips you have enjoyed. I just didn't want to bring my refund check without a for sure then have to store it in the keyed room safe at the Main street. Never had a problem with their safe but the door does jiggle a little when you push and pull on it.

TKO, nobody in Vegas is cashing a check without proper ID, so no worries. OK, maybe a little hassle to get a replacement if it did get stolen, but relax.

Maybe can't cash it in Vegas but might carry it on back to Chicago. They have ways there. LOL
On the serious side, as I mentioned on another post, last year someone tried to use my identity and or ss # on their tax to claim a refund. Found out when I tried to file using Turbo Tax and government rejected my return. I worked into the summer trying to prove my identity. Finally did and got my refund. It was a big hassle working with the IRS. The best part is they won't even tell me if they nailed the jerk due to CONFIDENTIALITY rules.

Seems to me they ought to offer this to people who don't get a refund, but instead have to pay the bastids even more at tax time!

The people that DO NOT get a refund or have to pay the gov at the end of the year get more money in their paychecks each pay. IT DOES NOT MATTER, you will pay the government the same amount in taxes whether you get a refund or don't get a refund. I have extra money taken out of my monthly check which is why I get a refund. I have done it the other way too and had less taken out and paid the gov at the end of the year. That was in the early 80's when bank interest was paying 15% because inflation was so high. Now they pay around .02% so I don't worry about them having my money awhile longer. I like the big check at end of year.

This. It doesn't matter. Tax due on your 1040 has nothing to do with how much you've paid in. If you're griping that you have to pay, then most likely it's because your income is higher. I'm a tax accountant and when I have people come in to write 200K/quarter estimated tax payments I think to myself, "Must be a nice problem to have!".

Along the same lines with tax stuff, the Golden Gate will pay all taxes on hand pays on April 15th. So, that's nice of them to do. Don't know the details of it, but saw a poster this past week while I was there.

I, too, am planning on cashing my tax refund for free play, AND pulling $1000 out of their ATM. Has anybody done both at the same time? I have never done either.

Suggest posting a new thread under Las Vegas for the frugal ( not cheap) where your question can be read immediately. I too would like to know the answer.
