    Beware!
I checked into the Excalibur Sat using free MyVegas Comped room. I had 2 free nights.
    1) Early check in (before 2 pm) is a $20 charge.
    2) Must re-check in each day for each comped night.
    3) Resort fee is $20 USD + tax $2.40
    4) Late checkout was $30 (until 2pm additional $50 to check out at 5pm)
    5) Resort fee charge on top off late check out 22.40 for staying extra 3hrs....!
My 2 "free myvegas comp nights" cost aggravation of rechecking in each day and a grand total of 117.20 USD in extra charges.
    * to check bags at the hotel was a $10 charge....

I had a late flight but decided not to pay the extra $50 to stay 3 more hrs. Sat at the airport instead.

20 buck resort fee is pretty good; Mandalay Bay is 32.something. And I was still happy to pay it, since it still basically meant I was getting a 200+ dollar a night hotel for 32.something a night. It's pretty common knowledge that resort fees aren't covered by myvegas comps - that's basically their "barely break even" rate, which I'm totally fine with. Charging for early and late checkout is also completely reasonable and universal at hotels everywhere; why would you expect them not to charge you for that? (Next time just don't check in early or out late? Nobody made you do that...? For two nights, couldn't you just put your stuff in a bag you can carry around with you? Then it doesn't matter when you get there or leave, you can just do stuff in Vegas carrying your bag. What I do.)

The re-checkin thing is dumb though. When I was at Mandalay Bay, they said it would automatically re-check me in, which was technically true, except that it didn't update my room key, so I still had to go down and swap in new keys every day, which was kinda dumb. They do need better systems for that (well, you can't get more than one comp stay at once anymore, but still relevant if you were getting one comp night and then paying for more nights in the same stay, probably would make you check in again then too. Which is dumb.)

Yeah, that $20 resort fee is actually lower than most of the MGM resort ones. At MGM Grand, its $29 plus tax (around $32 a night). Late and early check-out are pretty standard as well.

The re-check-in is a little surprising to me as is the fee to check your bags. Never seen that before.

Their bell desk charges you $10 for bag check in? I usually tip $5 anyway but that's absurd. Also the recheck in thing sounds like a pain. Guess I should only plan on cashing those LPs for buffets and shows.

I think the OP meant it is $10 to check in a bag at the hotel for your flight. Some hotels have a company come and check your bag for you so you don't have to worry about checking them at the airport. I hope thats what the OP meant. If they charge $10 you leave a bag at the bell desk then that is absolutely insane. I have never heard of that at a hotel before.

You should have taken your chances checking in early. Of all the hotels I've stayed in Vegas, I haven only been turned away once with checking in before 3 (I believe it was at the Cosmo). They gave us our keys and called us when the room was ready.

I don't see what the problem is. Check in is actually 4 pm at most hotels, the resort fee is actually cheaper than at most hotels, check in each day just tales a couple of minutes, and the late check out fee for 3 hours can be avoided if you give the baggage handler at Excalibur a couple of bucks.

The fees are clearly printed on the Myvegas voucher and I know when I made my reservation through Myvegas they quoted the resort fee to me.

Im shocked that they charged for early check-in, this must be something hotels are just starting to do in the recent year or so, I have NEVER had an issue checking into a Vegas hotel early and always have taken an early flight. My June flight arrives at 850am actually.

It does sound like a pain to re-check in nightly, I have two comp nights so hopefully its not a huge issue when I arrive.

Is this a typical experience? It's not something I've read about in the MyVegas section of the forum before.

The surprising thing in your comment was the $10 bag check fee...that's about as tacky as it gets. Still, I've actually heard Jim Murren on earnings calls refer to Excalibur as a "dormitory for other casinos" - e.g. guests don't do much other than sleep there, and go play and spend money elsewhere. So I would expect them to continue getting creative on new fees. The last time I set foot in there was to meet up with my niece, whose softball team chose to stay there during a tournament while I was in town at Aria. On my way to her tower I was accosted by 2 separate sets of timeshare sales people that are stationed both at the entrance to the hotel and again at the base of the elevators in each tower. They apparently pay rent there. The fact that they have allowed this says all you need to know about how Excalibur is managed and thinks about its customers.

tl;dr: That place is disgusting, stay away.

I'm a bit surprised at the check in each day as I've got 3 days booked via myvegas at The Luxor in June and when I booked it the lady linked each booking so it is all together(no check out/in each day).

I've already done this twice before at Luxor with no problems but I assume you need to do it on the phone when redeeming the rewards and not at the hotel when checking in.

There is no fee to leave your bag with the bellman when you arrive early. I just called them to confirm that.

When I booked through MyVegas and had the two days "linked", it didn't work and we had to go back and have our room keys updated. I guess it doesn't always work......

I was fairly certain I did not encounter such fees at Monte Carlo when I used MyVegas last November. So I called. There is no fee for early check-in at the Monte Carlo. If they have a room, they will give you the room. There is no bellman fee for leaving bags if you are too early for a room, and no fee for leaving bags after you check out while you wait for the time to meet your flight.
If I remember right, I also got to check in early with no fee at Mandalay Bay last November. The best bet is to call when you call to confirm a reservation. Check the date, check the resort fee obligation, check the check in and check out times, check on any early check in fees or bellman fees. Fees do change.
I jump around from hotel to hotel and the transportation time (bus riding) takes up a bit of the dead time.
I always call and try to extend my check out time for another hour. I get an okay about 90 percent of the time.
    There is no charge.
I did that in November at MonteCarlo so I had plenty of time to swim the lazy river in the morning, shower and dress, and have breakfast on my poker comps before I actually left the hotel, and I could arrive at the next hotel an hour later and that much closer to actual check in time and closer to the time when early check in might be possible because more rooms were cleaned.

Now here is an early check-in story for you.
Two years ago I stayed my first night in Vegas at the El Cortez for free on a one night room I won on the American Casino Guide site.
I forgot to adjust my clock. I usually do it right after I board the plane.
The next night I was booked into the D.

I thought I would arrive around noon.
I arrived at 9 AM, still oblivious to the time change.

They gave me a room. There was no fee. There was not even a surprised comment about how early I had arrived.
I checked in, set up everything.
Only then did I see that the clock there read just after 9 AM, so I called to confirm the time and it was the earliest of check-ins I had ever had.

It is rather ironic that when we pay big bucks for the upscale strip rooms, we sometimes get less for our money than when we opt for more frugal accommodations. If they have rooms at the Orleans, the Gold Coast, Sam's Town, the 4 Queens, the D, generally they give them to me and without any $20 trick.

All the CET charge an early check in fee. Buddy Wild Bill was in an upscale room at the Rio with his wife who had a convention price. He wanted to stay at the Rio, but wanted a cheaper room. They wanted $20 for early check in. His wife had paid that when she arrived at noon in the upscale and now they wanted it just for Bill to change rooms. He talked them down to $10.

I book the D and the Four Queens back to back all the time because I don't have to pack up carefully for the move. I can get the room at the 4 Queens before I have to vacate the one at the D and make 3 trips if I want.
CET used to get my business, but this early check in fee nonsense is a deal breaker for me. I like to be in my room with my things and get settled. I like to nap in the early afternoon. I don't mind if they are full up and I have to wait, but I don't want to be charged $5 extra an hour if I arrive early for a room that just sits there, all cleaned, waiting for me.

A little side question, but I didn't want to open a new thread for this.

During my upcoming trip I will check out from Luxor around noon and I will leave the bags with the bellman. The following day, I will be at the airport around 5:30 AM. I don't plan on booking any accommodations for that final night, rather enjoy Vegas until the early hours of the morning.

Since I'll be leaving my bags for around 17 hours, will there be a problem with the bellman? Will I be able to access my bags very early in the morning?

Using Myvegas at aria and mgm, the system checked me in and out each night, (I got emails indicating so) but I didn't need go to front desk or get keys fixed. It did confuse housekeeping at mgm, as they thought we had checked out the first night and didn't know we still had the room.

Makes sense. Never used that service myself so assumed it was a bell desk charge.

    Thanks Dewey!
