As (a bit of), a laugh, my dad and uncle and I are going to stay at the LIttle Al-e-inn in Rachall and have a campfire, get drunk, and look for weird stuff.
Any advice from people who have been out that way, of things to do and to avoid?

    I want to believe.

Ha! Good for you! I've been through there twice, both times had a late lunch at the Inn. Eclectic folks out that way, I'll say that. Never thought much about being there in the evening, but why not? There's only like 60 residents of the town, so hopefully you can scare something up!

Gas up before you get there. Not much around particularly if you want to drive all the way through to Tonopah.

The greens are OK but don't have a sense of humor, they hate ethnic jokes for some reason. The greys are to be avoided at all costs, a couple of them are looking for me as they are holding a couple of my markers. You run into Mothman and we won't be reading your trip report.

Seriously, drop the campfire idea. No light at all. Sit back, let the iris of your eyes open as wide as possible. You'll see orbiting satellites. I've done it many times. Most are commercial and easily identfied from their orbit if you have a compass, know the exact time and their general direction. Plenty of web resources out there to help.

Let's hope you survive to write a TR....

Sounds almost as fun as me going to your country and hanging around top secret military facilities.

I've always wanted to go up there. On the way home last trip, I saw the Area 51 "ghost plane". Didn't get the camera out fast enough. From what I've read, a lot of people hang out at the "black mailbox". If you meet Paul, say hi for the rest of us.

I've never been to Area 51, but I'm always looking out for those Janet airplanes at McCarran.

I would definitely bring a couple of those space blankets or whatever they call them .Those silver tin foil looking things. Have them handy and be prepared to hunker down under one .

It's something we are considering in May just to say we've been there.

I go to Rachel once or twice a year as a diversion from my normal I-15 route between LV and SLC. I take the Jeep or bike, a sleeping bag and a small tent. I camp on BLM land and don't do a fire. You can also camp in the old campground area for free (did that once).

There's little to see. Rachel is not one of those classic Western towns and has no main street - it's just mostly old trailers. The "hotel" is in old trailers as well. The Black Mailbox (which is white now) is right by the side of the road - blink and you'll miss it. During the week I'm usually the only one there as most people come visit on weekends. Don't bother with the Area 51 road. You'll only see warning signs that you can't pass beyond.

Thanks everyone. However, My dad is having complications from his chemo and we have to cancel the trip.
God willing we can do it next year.

I think it leaves at about 7:30am, this past trip was the 2nd time I saw it. It was starting to taxi to the runway. And, it's just like everyone says, just a red strip down the whole thing, no tail numbers at all.
