I've only been to Vegas once before. We stayed at Bellagio and loved it. We are going back in July with our friends who were married at the Flamingo. They are staying there, so we are too. I see so many bad reviews at Flamingo, which scares me. I see people say GO rooms are better, so I want to book a non smoking GO room, strip view. Our plane doesn't get in until 9:30pm. I read if you get in late they give your room away, and you get stuck with whatever is left. Does anyone have experience with late check in at Flamingo? Is there a way to for sure get what you book?

I had an experience this past July where they gave my room away and tried to give me a smoking and/or pet friendly classic room. I was told it was my fault because I was checking in so late (even though my reservation said I would be checking In around midnight). I told that wasn't acceptable and I needed the room I booked or walk me to another property. They finally "found" a Go room for me. Needless to say I wasn't happy. Ended up calling Cosmo the next day and spent the rest of our trip their. My orginal plan was to make Diamond status on that trip. CET didn't see any $$$ from me.

Did you still have to pay for your reserved stay at Flamingo? What room did you book at Flamingo? This will be our second time in Vegas, and second vacation ever (in 12 years) away from the kids so I don't want any problems.

Lisa, remember that "strip view" in Vegas doesn't mean that you have a hotel room with a window that faces the strip. I've had strip view rooms where I had to look out over the parking lot to see the strip and the hotel two properties down on the same side.

I had reserved the room as comp, so I didnt have to pay. I had a Go room reserved. Thats what made me so angry, they told me they didnt have any Go rooms available. When I wouldnt accept a classic smoking pet friendly room, then they finally "found" a room for me. I had even offered to pay for an upgraded room from what I had booked and that didnt even help. Weirdest experience I have ever had checking in to any hotel anywhere.

If you must have a non-smoking room, call in the afternoon and tell them this is necessary. My friends who paid for a nice GO room got in around 9:30 and ended up with this problem. She absolutely because of serious lung problems could not be in a smoking room. They had to be moved twice. The whole stay was not good. Staff would have been quite willing to charge lots more to put them in a suite.

I haven't tried this with any of the Caesar's properties (I refuse to stay at them) but a couple years ago I was travelling and had missed a flight due to a mechanical issue and was going to be in a similar situation - arriving at 11 pm. I'd rather sleep in a box in the middle of I-15 than in a smoking room so I called the Luxor where my reservation was, gave them my credit card info over the phone and they checked me into a non-smoking room many hours before I arrived. All I had to do when I got there was get my key.

Marriott and Hyatt allow web check in and assign you a room as soon as it's available. Hopefully these casinos will get their reservation systems modernized and do the same soon.

I was told that CET releases room preferences around 11pm. If you were going to be a late arrival, I was advised to call that day and reiterate that you were coming so they would hold a room for you. But my observation is that Flamingo doesn't do anything customer friendly.

Thanks for the replies. I know I got spoiled on our last trip to Vegas in 2011. We had a premiere fountain view Penthouse suite at Bellagio. This time, I just want something decent and clean. I definitely cannot have a smoking room. I have Moyamoya disease, and had brain bypass surgery last April. Since surgery I am very sensitive to smells, especially cigarette and cigar smoke. Which is ironic since until 8 years ago I was a casual smoker.

Are you paying for the room or is it comped? I believe they will work harder to give you the room you "pay" for vs comped room. Also, you can check in early via email that morning this may help you get the room you pay for. If you use email to check in you just pick up your key when you arrive

Use the email they send you the day you check in. This should help get your room type vs waiting till you get there

Sometimes the hotels can be stubborn. I reserved a non-smoking room at Harrah's AC and they put me in a smoking room which I didn't know until I got to the room. They told me it was a non-smoking room at the front desk. I called to complain and they told me all the non-smoking rooms were sold and they would send up an ozone machine to clean my room. They told me I had to leave the room for several hours. We went down to the casino and ate dinner and back to the room hours later around midnight. It still smelled the same. I called to complain and was told they couldn't find the ozone machine. I said I'm not staying in the room, find me another room. They told me they couldn't give me another room and asked if I'd like to check out instead. I said fine and checked out because I was mad at their incompetence. Went to see someone at the front desk and they gave me a smoking suite and a $40 credit.

what is the best time to check in, and get the room you reserved? We are considering flying in the next day so we don't have any problems.

For our boys trip the past couple of years we have stayed at Flamingo and flew in late from the east coast (arriving at hotel after 11PM). While the lines were long to check in at those times, we never have had trouble getting the type of room that we had reserved (including a GO room last year). These were comped rooms but we are by no means high rollers. Never had an issue at the other CET properties we stayed at in prior years either.

Well you may or may not get the clean part. I thought the same thing a couple of years ago about the GO room and I walked in the room and you could see how much lipstick they put on that pig (not much). I doubt that it's gotten much better. The A/C was barely passable, the room had an odd odor (not too horrible or I would have insisted moving) the bathroom was NOT up to modern standards and the TV didn't work for 2.5 of the 5 days we were there despite contacting the desk multiple times about it. I would say the Flamingo is the new Imperial Palace of the strip. I will NEVER stay there again. I would rather pay for a room...

I stayed at Flamingo in 2011, it was not a remodeled room but I checked it out very well because I won't pay for a dirty room and it was clean and no odd smells, had no complaints at all really and would stay there again. Having said that, I have not stayed at any high end properties and have stayed at a Super 8 and Motel 6 (not in vegas)
