I'm just curious if he's still around or even still alive. As a young craps player I enjoyed reading his books (not always great advice but entertaining nevertheless). I haven't heard much about him for a long time and it doesn't look like he's written any books for a long time.

Yeah he's still around peddling his books and even has his own message board. Of course, one should take his advice with a grain of salt as I believe some of it contradicts basic gambling math that the casino depends on to keep the lights on. The Wizard of Vegas board definitely likes to bash on Patrick every now and again.

Oh no doubt. He's about hedging and none of his systems are good for the player. And even though there really is no such thing as a good craps system I always enjoy reading about them. And he has a lot :)

His style is pretty funny and his emphasis on not blowing your money is okay. I thought his craps book offered a good primer for learning the game and explained the basics pretty well. You just had to avoid the part about the systems. I wish to adopt that suit jacket/turtle neck look he is sporting

I first saw his videos years ago. Drambler's take on his "systems" is good. Really against all odds.
His recommendation to have knowledge of the game you play, a good bankroll, and money management and discipline were worth something though.

His parts on money management always cracked me up. He'd tell you how to save some money then say " I know you aren't going to listen to me." Damn bu$shman for stealing that look.

He's a Jersey Guy so you know you can trust him .His sister lived around the corner from me so he used to watch his nephew play ball near my house.
A real character,I used to get a kick out of talking to him about gambling. He did admit to me about how many times he went broke over the years ,so I give him credit for that.
In those days he had the hots for Mrs. JG,I dont think the turtle neck turned her on too much. I guess he's still in Vegas ??

What a great flashback. I remember him rocking that style 30 years ago on TV as he was pitching his books and videos (I may still have the advanced Craps one).

I seem to recall Telly Savalas pitching the Players Club around that time as well. Talk about old school.

If only Bob Stupak had made a commercial to shill Vegas World, that would have been a trifecta of fine late night low end cable watching.

He is one reason I became so interested in gambling. Saw his show years ago on the FNN (does that still exist?) I have read his books. They are a fun read. His ideas, as stated by Drambler, are interesting, and have some merit. He does teach the basic game of craps better than I have ever seen it done. Yep, I have some of his videos, too. Don't like some of his approaches on blackjack. But then, he is all about keeping one's bankroll intact, rather than playing the math. Small wins. Good ideas. I believe discipline and taking enough money to the casino is very important. Do I adhere to his thinking? No, but he does preach that people should at least know the game they're playing.

Drambler, trust me, it takes a lot of intestinal fortitude (using John Patrick's own words) to dress like that. Now, if I could only look as good as he does wearing a toupee.

I loved the FNN / SCORE Network. Who's playing Time Out for Trivia? Tom Donoho, who is still around.

    John Patrick's thoughts on his audience "You're a dope, you're a dork, you're a loser.I don't give a rats ass..." I've only seen him on FNN/SCORE.

I have his book "Advanced Craps". It was given to me from a fellow craps player. The book has some pretty solid advice on bankroll mgt. and playing strategies.

Except for his constant belittling of the readers, like we were idiots or something. The book is a pretty long read so his constant on and on rant about how we won't listen, how stupid we play, how we don't follow discipline, etc., etc, get's tiring after a while. You would think we would get it by now but he keeps going on and on.....to the point where if he was in front of me in person I would've said "F#ck you too, John Patrick...you dork."

I saw some stuff on TV and spoke to him many times on a radio show ( via call in) esp.. Foxwoods and Mohegan opened in CT ( or if visiting the casinos way back when).. He most certainly was a "character".. but as stated his basis on bankroll $$$ mgt and strategy made sense.. And YES he was right.. I didn't really follow the theories religiously either...LOL!! .FWIW also remember speaking to.. here is another name from the past ---> Frank Sclobete ( sp?) and about the " captain" and those "theories". Wondering if that guy was even real. LOL!!!

I'm pretty sure Frank didn't want to concede "The Captain's" point rolling record to Patricia DeMauro. Problem for Frank was, she was on tape!

Based on my experiences in casinos and the track since the 1980s, calling a good number of gamblers dorks, losers and dopes is a fair assessment. I've fallen under one or more of those categories at times, likely many of us have regrets about plays, or playing tired or out of it. Money management, discipline, knowledge and bankroll are all necessary components to have a fighting chance in a casino.

I learned about craps and roulette from his FNN shows, though I rarely play either (was mostly a BJ player until I joined this board when I shifted play to Video Poker).

The one thing about her roll that I never was able to find out for sure is whether she rolled a 7 on any of the come out rolls. From the articles I read I don't think she did.

Patricks a tongue-in-cheek read. Some good.

I somewhat recall that DeMauro never rolled a 7 either. Highly unlikely, but possible.

How many points did she roll?
Who holds the record for rolling points now? It used to be Hollywood Jack, I vaguely recall, but his point total number seems rather low.
Did you know Einstein played craps?

On Saturday evening, May 23, at Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, Patricia DeMauro played craps for the second time in her life and rolled 154 numbers before sevening-out.
This epic roll eclipsed the Captain’s (purported) previous World Record of 147 numbers .

Ms. DeMauro’s roll lasted four hours and 18 minutes and in terms of time also eclipsed Stanley Fujitake’s record length of three hours and six minutes (118 numbers rolled).
Yes, Ms. DeMauro is now the new champ in terms of time and, more important, in terms of the total number of rolls before sevening out.

I read somewhere that FS wrote: in the 1990s, Jimmy P., the Captain, and the Arm hit Tropworld (now Tropicana)
(not sure if this was when the purported roll happened, but you would think someone could corroborate it, if there was a captain or a mega-roll of 147 numbers)
It was a world's record at the time...right:hmmm:

This is great!!! This is where my brother & I went to Vegas for the first time. 23 years old,1983. An add in the back of the newspaper, round trip flight, room, $50 in free play. All for $199 per person!!
What a deal. My bank roll for 3 days, $400. Man what a dump it was, we only played there leaving & coming back. We walked every day south to the strip & walked back every night.

We were just talking last weekend how we have only missed going out there together 4 times in the 30 some years. F**ken Bob Stupak's Vegas World!!

Not to sidetrack my own thread but Stupak was great. Read John L. Smith's bio of him "No Limit". So interesting. Vegas World was unique. Here is a copy of one of his ads, he had many variations. This one cost $194 for 2 people. You got 2 nights room, $300 in action on any even money bet (pass line, blackjack, etc), $100 slot action, 4 keno plays, 2 show tickets, 10 free drinks, a pair of dice, a deck of cards and some other stuff.
