New management at Nugget has decided to cancel most of the poker tourneys and to change the name of the current ladies tourney, but exclude to Lips organization that sponsored it. This leaves at the least 500 Very Mad ladies without a room for the Grand Champoinship. This event has been held there for years and has been listed on ther site for months. They had given out a code also for discounted rooms too.

This will not be a pretty sight in June when the WSOP is in Vegas and the Ladies and friends boycott this hotel.

Although I do not know about contracts, I do know that the only fee to Lips International for branding, advertising and organization, is from a $10 fee player paid at time of entry fee.

I for one and 500 of my Poker chix sisters will never step foot in the Smug Nugget again and we talk, and post! :grrr:

I just shake my head when management makes these kinds of moves. I don't know much about the new guys but I always felt you should tread softly the first year. So you know what you are getting into and who you will piss off. If your filling rooms and don't need the tourney that's fine but give everyone at least a year to adjust and find a new venue. Bad press is hard to reverse and will cost way more than what you could save in one year. JMHO

We personally boycott the Nugget for a number of reasons so I don't follow their news. Now they have another set of new owners? When did that occur?

They ran the guy who was running the casino/marketing out of there about a year ago despite years of service and a decent tournaround of the casino.

The Nugget was great with promos for a while (I was clearing 4-5k a month in multi use promo chips), but they clearly don't give a crap about their players anymore. But, for a downtown casino, they are pretty damn busy.

they sure are, and I don't get it. maybe I should try them again sometime, but my experience there has been nothing but bad. rude dealers and cranky pit bosses. I've only tried twice, but that was enough.

Only had one experience at the Nugget, that was in 2011. I liked the room I had in the Rush Tower but felt al of the staff except the massage tech were rude and they caused a huge billing issue for me. I got a massage and they charged it to my room, went to take care of the bill at check out and was told it was not charged to my room so I went to the spa to pay, got home and a week later they charged my card for it because of a paperwork error. Took quite a bit of work to straighten out.

We've stayed at the GN perhaps ten times, typically for three or four nights. Haven't had an overall bad experience yet. We've encountered a random rude individual or two at many properties, but I haven't found them to be any more prevalent at the Nugget. A couple of times we've gotten a room we didn't like, and they've given us another, no problem. About half the time we get the Landry's upgrade, and the check-in clerk will usually give me their coupons if I ask whether we're supposed to get them or not. When we do gamble there (which isn't much) drink service has been good and the servers friendly. Their buffet is good for breakfast and lunch. A couple of the restaurants have decent happy hour offerings. I like the place, but with their $20 resort fee probably won't be staying there much any more.

Strange, can't seem to find this info anywhere. Nothing on 2+2, nothing on Ante Up Poker Tour, the sponsor of the tournament, nothing on Golden Nugget poker website. I can't believe they would cancel any Ante Up event during the WSOP series at the Rio this summer. Waaaayy too many poker players in town to be cancelling anything. Are you perhaps speaking of their average every day tournaments?

I always stay there because they have the best rooms downtown but I hardly gamble there at all. I think they get away with trying some of the recent changes, along with higher minimums, because they are the premier property downtown. After my upcoming July visit I will definitely do a reevaluation if there are more signs of declining customer service and taking their customers for granted.

No this is a Lips Tour tourney. Ladies International Poker Series. This is time to tie in the the Ladies event at the WSOP. This is a whole week of events at Nugget, they have already taken them off the schedule, kept a Ladies tourney that day but it is no longer sponsored by Lips and the banners from previous tourneys have already been taken down. The funny part is there was also another group, High Heels Poker that used to ave events that same week too. They were sold and nothing scheduled so the Lips tourney would have been the only Ladies smaller event.

But to update, from my posting here, a person from the Plaza has sent me a p.m. Stating they would love to work ith the Ladies and for us to contact them. Thought that was very nice, and also shows that some casinos to monitor this forum.
