Usually stay at Mirage. Haven't stayed at Bellagio in a few years. Had a great fountain view room last time but it took 4 hours and several calls to get it. When I asked very politely at check in (in the platinum line) the clerk gave me a smart ass remark something like "Gee, nobody ever asks for that" and a crappy low floor no view. I swear I wasn't being rude or demanding. I think he was in a bad mood. I always check my luggage when I arrive so tell them I am willing to wait for a room. I called from the casino every hour until one finally opened up.

I arrive at 4pm Easter Sunday. Picked those dates because they look slow. Do I need to do the $20 trick or just be nice again and hope for a more cooperative desk clerk? I'm on a 3 night standard room comp and haven't been To Vegas in over a year so back to 0 points. I do understand it is a premium and the trip won't be ruined without it, but I find I appreciate the views on solo trips as I spend more time in the room.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Are still Platinum with MLife? An easy starting point to ask for an upgraded view room ...

They have to be available to start with. They could be very slow and not have any left. Why? Because EVERYONE wants them.

Then you have to find somebody willing to upgrade you. Not always the case.

Personally, I think you were lucky last time.

There just are not enough rooms to go around. Only 1 out of every 3 rooms even face the fountains. If you count the spa tower, it is even worse since most of those rooms have no view,or just a marginal one.

Thank you both. I will reserve my luck and $ for the tables and not have any expectations. So glad to be going after an unusual year+ absence I'm going to enjoy anything I get.

Nothing wrong with hoping. If you're Platinum still, go to the VIP check-in ... they tend to do wonders over there. I also use them to reconfirm dinner reservations at Bellagio because they always seem to get me placed at a fantastic table.

As you say - ask nice and if no luck show a 20 or perhaps more in you hand with a " are you sure nothing available" question. No harm in asking.

Clarification on something, you said - - in the platinum line. You mean invited guess line I hope. Never heard nor saw the platinum line. Am I missing something here?

I'm staying there on comp this wknd, and wondering What will be left when I ck in?
Will have $20 in hand AND Plat card, but don't think it makes a diff.

You are correct, must have been invited guest. I was thinking of the Beau Rivage, they have a platinum plus line at check in. I've been stuck at home for a year, my platinum expired sept 2014. Back to square one. Bummer.

Will ask for a view but not sure about the slipping them a 20 or 50. Hoping my sparking personality will do it. I had the view before so as long as I get a high floor with something to look at ill be happy.

    Good luck this weekend.

A year or two ago, I stayed at Bellagio. I went to The Invited Check-in line and passed the clerk my Platinum card, Credit Card and ID. I politely asked if there were any complimentary upgrades available. The old clerk looked at me and then said she'll see what she can get me. She handed me the key cards and when I got to the room and opened the blinds, guess what view I got? Big azz freaking HVAC unit...lol. Ironically, I have gotten a fountain view in all the surrounding properties, except Bellagio. The platinum card is probably the last thing you could give them to get an upgrade room.

VIP just requires them to put that in your res. Could be a host but doesn't have anything to do with your card color.
