I forgot to mention about our ride to the airport the last morning.....quite certain we were long hauled......can someone confirm? And if so, what should the route be?

We took the taxi from the Palazzo, heading to terminal 3. It was 5:20 a.m, and no traffic. He went across the street along the Fashion Show Mall, merged onto a highway, driving behind the strip up past the excalibur, then merged back into the strip, we had to backtrack a bit past the MGM.....then made his way to the airport. Fare was about $25- 26. I could understand this if the strip was jammed with cars, but at that hour it was pretty empty.

Not too bad. Per the attached link Shock put in Getting around, Looks like Paradise would have been a low at 19.35 coming in at 5.8 miles. If you took the strip it would have been 5.2 miles and $ 24.25, and if he really long hauled you it would have been $ 32.20 and 10.20 miles. Also this is from the Venetian. So maybe not too bad. Thanks for posting your TR very enjoyable.

I don't think you were actually long-hauled based on the fare. I was charged about the same last July and didn't go that route. Probably the distance was a mile or two longer on the highway, but it should have taken about the same length of time.

That adds about $5 or so onto the fare, and IMO there's never a reason for them to take the highway. When they are leaving Palazzo the honest drivers will turn right and then right onto Sands and take the back way to the airport. If there's a accident on those back streets and they need to take another route then it would be the strip if there's little traffic like at 5:20am and certainly not the highway.

Enjoyed reading your TR. Our taxis ride for 2 from the Palazzo to T1 terminal last August via freeway 15 and 215 was $33. For the NYE2014 trip, we took the back way via Paradise and the fare was $24.

Seems like it. I had to go to T1 and my fare was $15 before tip. Had the driver go to Sands then Paradise. No traffic but got stopped at a few red lights.

I went from Wynn to T1 at that time of day on a Wednesday a few weeks ago. The driver asked me if I wanted to go straight down the strip as there was no traffic at that hour. He was right, no traffic, stopped at one light between Wynn and MGM. It was $18 when we arrived at T1. No reason to take the highway in that case. Not a long long haul, but still a long haul IMO.

Thanks everyone- I thought the Sands/Paradise route made more sense and was surprised when he crossed the strip. Now I know, and would likely request that route when I get in the cab the next time! The fare wasn't too bad - and really, in the whole scope of a trip $8-10 extra bucks hardly matters I suppose!

And, how many people book the 7 a.m. flight out of Vegas? Not many. The pic below was taken AFTER the door was closed and we were about to taxi out! Pic to follow~

This store is in the Venetian shops, it's just a few stores from the entrance to Tao on the same side. They had LOTS of great stuff in there, including many smaller version samplers that were great gift sizes!

Thanks for the great TR. I will be in Palazzo tomorrow, so thanks for all the useful info about not comping off agreed upgrades, I guess the desk clerk gets some sort of kickback for this.
