So you just sat down at a machine, you pop in a Hundy, start betting, wether it's .40, $1.00 , $5.00, or more. When do you move on? Dollars, spins, free games?
The answer is it depends. Was expecting to play a game for a while, hit a nice win or the game bored me and I cash out. Also expected to simply try a game and an hour or two later I am still playing. Other times I do say to myself that I am insert $X and playing until it doubles or runs out.
Right now, I leave 3 more spins after a bonus, just to honor the gaming gods...that is IF i get free spins Otherwise I leave once I feel like a chump!
Not to sidetrack the thread too much, but if he (Rusty/Nick) had won all those cars, why didn't he just sell them all and get his dad out of the hole? To answer the OP's question, I don't have hard and fast rules, but if it's a strong multiple, like a 200x of the bet, I will usually cut and move on to another machine or take a break.
Morning.. I'm sober so I leave after losing half or doubling. Afternoon.. I'm lubed. I play the hundred to the virtual felt. Evening.. I'm tanked and can't see. I put every last hundred in pocket in until I win a bazillion dollars. This is why I use the envelope system and smoke enough weed to temporarily forget my ATM PIN number before leaving for the trip.

Because penny slots have such a high house edge I usually keep it really low betting. I'll get a beverage or two and move on. I hit and run slots, I'm not in it for the long ride like VP or craps.
I really hit and run the things too. $5 or $10 betting the minimum bet to cover the lines and then move on.
If its a newer high volatility machine I will play until either it looks like I am not going to win something, I hit a big win or get a good bonus... otherwise I'll usually find a machine and stick with it until I just feel like the machine isn't going to pay off anymore (IE: big run of losing) or if I have a set buy in and that runs out.
