I'm going to try table games for the first time, so I'm a bit hesitant in betting big. I usually play slots, so I pretty much have to learn everything.

If I find a very low limit table (ex. $5 BJ) at a MGM property that I usually frequent, does it affect my future comps if I just play the minimum?

Just make sure you play the table games on the same day you play slots. You don't want that low play to be your only action in a day.

Good luck finding a $5 blackjack table at an MLife property or really any strip property at that. May find a few $10 here and there but most these days are $15 and up.

If you do your normal coin-in on slots and then add table play at a low min, it shouldn't hurt your offers, all you're doing is adding a little more daily theo.

Excalibur usually has $5 tables. Not sure about BJ specifically, though. Other MLife properties, I haven't seen $5 in a long time.

If you're playing $5 hands, you probably shouldn't bother giving them your card anyway.

My thoughts exactly. Assuming your slot play is sufficient to get you a lot of comps, why risk that because you're wanting to test out table play at $5 a hand?? What comps do you really have to gain from that table play? Even if you play six hours of BJ in a day, at that level you are only generating about fifteen bucks a day in comps! Don't risk screwing up the comps you're happy with

Perhaps moot in light of the previous posters' (good) points, but IIRC MGM casinos require a minimum bet to rate you, and at blackjack it's $25.

Just say you don't want to be rated and play. If you happen to step up your game where you feel you have a suitable average, give them your card and they will most often times back up your time.

I messed around with some dice and BJ last trip.

Dropped my avg bet from about 13k to 8k.

    Oh well I had fun.

    That's what it's about isn't it?

Certain properties have/had this policy. I've come across it at the Mirage but not at NyNy or Monte Carlo.

Not anymore, they have done away with that policy and will rate you at any bet level.

Good to know. They were usually kind of snotty about it too when I'd hand them my card. Rubbed me the wrong way.

How much do you want to bet that the irony of them being snotty that you weren't gambling enough while they stood there in their cheap suits on a smokey casino floor getting paid by the hour completely escaped them?

If you are new to the game and don't care about the human interaction of a live table most MGM properties have video blackjack with virtual dealers. Aria, MGM, and Excalibur had one that paid 3:2 on a natural 21 and were $5 min table. They are good for beginners because there is less pressure to make sure you play right and they usually have a rules/help button you can peruse before you play. Also you earn one point for every $10 wagered.

    Lotso,
If you want to just "try" table games..I'd recommend going off-strip, to a place you're not know, and trying low-limit stuff. (GoldCoast comes to mind)
If you try and play at an MLife property, even WITHOUT your card...chances are you'll get recognized and a pitboss will enter you in for rating (most don't know any better)

Also the amount of time it took for him to take my card and tell me this info he could have just punched in the info. Set it at $10 average bet. It's not like he needs to constantly watch me as I might spread my bets way up or be generating any serious theo. I was just a poor recent college grad at the time trying to get his resort fees comped.
