quick hit slot machines

so i am feeding the game king video poker machine (the payout for jacks or better is 8/5), and not winning any money. but a few people who are playing the $1 "quick hit" slot machines are winning $1,000. They are sitting there, betting 2 credits at $1, just pushing the spin button. whereas i am actually using strategy with vp.
What is the deal with that?

Exactly my thoughts, but In reverse.

I have never hit a royal flush (except if you count the online one when gambling on the internet was legal), but have hit several W2-Gs on slots. (14 in 2014)

To each his own. Gambling is mostly luck anyway . . .

 

There might be a smaller house edge with VP over those slot machines, but house edge has little to do with your chance or odds of winning.

Consider if I have two games:
In the first game I have a box of ping pong balls numbered from 1 to 10. You bet $1 and guess what number I will put out of the box. If I pull the ball out with your number I give you $9, if you lose I take your money.
In the second game I have a box of ping pong balls numbered from 1 to 100. You bet $1 and guess what number I will pull out of the box. If I pull out the ball with your number I give you $99. If you lose I take your money.

In these examples the first game has a house edge of 10% and the second game has a house edge of only 1% - the second game is more advantageous to the player, but your odds of winning are better in the first game.

Well... kind of... not really... video poker players mostly use about the same amount of strategy that slot players use when playing.

 

Then I would never play video poker. Just play "quick hit".
Forget about the payout rates, 99% or 98% etc on VP, those are rubbish.

the 2 credit quick hit is one of my favs i put 100 in and get alot of play out of the machine, and it seems like it pays often getting 3 quick hits in any position

I wouldn't call them "rubbish"... of course you should look for every "edge" you can get. I just think they're tremendously over-rated for the average couple hour player. Check the VP porn that's contained in most of the trip-reports here on VMB and you'll notice many, many times the player is on a 6/5 or 7/5 machine. I maintain you can get lucky or not on any of 'em. Don't get me wrong, I'm not out searchin' for stingy pay-tables and happy to avoid 'em when I can, I just don't feel like my hair is gonna catch on fire if I drop a hundy in one of 'em for a few drinks and some fun at a bar-top I wanna play at. YES... I'd love 45 credits for a full-house, but getting 35 or 30 won't kill me... I'm looking for 4 of a kind or the Royal. If I played 6-8 hours a day or more, it'd be a bigger deal. There's some really smart people on here that I'm sure will take issue with my comment and technically they're right.

I prefer to play at a nice bar at the Hard Rock, with great music, fast, strong drinks, cool bartenders and pretty girls around, then sit in the middle of the SouthPoint falling over walkers and oxygen-tanks to get an extra 5 credits when I hit a full-house or a flush.

 

One of the true-isms of Las Vegas is that the slot that somebody is playing near you is always paying out more than yours!

Most bars at South Point are full pay. You still probably have the geriatric factor though.

 

How does the quick hit machine differ from DDB or jacks better

 

Ones a slot machine where all you need to do is hit spin. The other is video poker which requires proper strategy. Completely different games.
