    My Trip Report

Title messed up. This was 2014

This trip was last summer but I figured what the heck, lets write a report.

I had to go down to Memphis tot make the kids down to my ex-wife who lives in Texas and decided that I would get a room in Tunica for the night. It really was not meant to be a gambling trip but I was able to get a room for next to nothing due to an employee discount. I had a smaller budget than planned due to something that came up with he kids just prior to leaving that I had to take care of so it set me back some.

Left my house around 830pm in hot and humid conditions and got on the road. After filling up the tank we were off, it was just me and three of my kids. They all passed out before we hit Cinci and I made it down to the KY/TN border area before I needed gas again, filled up and made my way to West Memphis to meet the ex-wife. I arrived around 700a local time and she called and said they were about an hour away. I fed the kids breakfast and we just hung out in the car with the A/C running until she got there. At 800am local time it was already 96 degrees, I knew it would be a hot one. Her and her husband picked the kids up and I made the 40 minute drive to Tunica.

Driving down the highway I was surprised that there really is nothing there. You could see the Gold Strike sticking out from some corn fields but nothing else over all. I drove over to Ballys, played some $5 blackjack, I bought in for only $20 bucks just to see what my day would be like, well, I walked away with $50 so I was happy. Impressions of Ballys is WTF, this place is tiny, and the motel for it is off property with a shuttle.

After Ballys I went over to the area of the Horseshoe , Roadhouse and Gold Strike. I played a little in each but nothing major. I played High Card Flush in the Horseshoe and really liked that game, we do not have it at our casino and I had never heard of it. I was up but then things changed so when I got to even I quit. I played for about 10 minutes at the Roadhouse, lost my buy in there and went to Gold Strike, there I played a little VP but nothing hit and left there down as well.

At that point I drove over to the Fitz, played there, used the freeplay I received and cashed that in for about $25 bucks, I think I left there even after I lost some at the BJ table. They have 21+3 (all of the casinos there did) and I tried it a couple times and could not hit the side bet, but as soon as I quit, it came out three times in a row.

Then went to Sams Town, walked through there, then to The Resorts (or something like that) and found there dealers to be rather rude. I sat my money on a table to play and the dealer just looked at me like I was crazy. Game was open, shoe loaded, she never said a word, i picked up my money and went over to Hollywood, where I used my employee discount and checked in to my room.

This is where things get bad. Driving down my knee started to swell up and get quite a bit of pain, I had a hard time walking through the other casinos and decided I would relax some, bought some Aleve and took those and waited for the knee to clear up. It never did. I was hungry so I drove back over to Sams Town and had the buffet, the main thing that attracted me to it was it had a Corkys BBQ Pit station. The food over all was unimpressive. The BBQ area was good and seemed to be refreshed often but the food at the other stations was bad.

Back to Hollywood I decided to try my luck with the free play they gave me on my players card. Lost that pretty quickly and made my way to the BJ table. I bought in for $25 and in a matter of 20 minutes I was up to $100 just playing the $5 minimum. I decided to go back to my room, change and go down to the hot tub and see if it would help the knee. I walked down to the pool area, which is indoor and went over to the hot-tub but could not get in. There was a family in it and they would not have their kids move off the steps and they looked at me like I did not belong and then when I looked over by where my towel, shoes and shirt was, I saw one of their other kids going through my stuff and so I made it out of there with all of my property and back to the room, showered and back down to the casino. My lucky table was still open but I noticed a guy walk away and half the shoe was gone, so I told the dealer I would wait and he assured me that I wanted to play the rest of that shoe, that it was hot. Bought in for another $25 (left my black chip in the room) and took another $75 off of them. I casually asked the pitboss if I could get a comp for breakfast and he took me card and told me it was there.

I went up to go to bed and a huge storm blew threw, I love storms but this one was rather scary, finally the Aleve kicked in and I was able to fall asleep. Next morning I woke up, went down and tried my luck at the BJ table and lost the $75 I won the night before, asked the pitboss to double check the comp on my card and it was not there but he went ahead and loaded it up for me. I walked over to cash out my black chip and the supervisor at the cage, whom I spoke to the day before when I got my card (made sure it was ok getting the freeplay since I work for the company and they have some crazy rules) asked me if I had breakfast, told her I was about to go get some and she told me she would comp it, I let her know the pit already had and thanked her.

Went to the buffet and had breakfast. Had I paid for it, I would have been disappointed but for free, no complaints. I went and got my stuff out of the room and checked out, walked outside and could not believe how beautiful it was, the storm the night before brought in a cold front and it was in the mid 50s.

The drive home was uneventful. I actually drove most of the way with the windows down and radio up just cruising, it was sunny and no warmer than 74 degrees on the drive home.

Gas round trip cost me $120, food for was about $40 and hotel was $27 including tax (no resort fees), after I factor in gambling wins and such, the whole trip really cost me about $60 bucks, not bad in my opinion.

WTF is with those kids? Looking through your stuff? That's terrible.

And hollywood is the nicest pool/hottub in Tunica by a longshot...if you are 5' or shorter. Beds are great too as they have Tempurpedic mattresses. You should tell your bosses to tell corporate to up their shitty VP down there though. :evillaugh

Bally's is a bit WTF too, but I have to like it there by default because they have the biggest craft beer selection (with the clientele that would typically not drink that) and have the best paying STP machine left in Tunica.

Good report! But I'm happier I'm going to Vegas this week instead of Tunica!

This was my first trip there, I loved the bed and property over all, but I'm glad to be going to Vegas as well

Always happy to read a tunica report. Tunica serves it's purpose, not vegas, but they comp easily, and gotta love the free booze.

Ballys is an enigma, the only Tunica "hotel" I've never stayed at, and never will. Casino has an interesting vibe, and as Trig said up there, they have a good beer selection, at one time, the only place to get original coors.

If kids were going through my stuff, I'd be very pissed.

I was very pissed that they had the nerve to touch my stuff. I was not away from it 20 seconds when they walked over. In a few years they will be residents of the state correction system if they keep up their ways, they were not some 8 year olds, they were teens. Only thing there of value was my phone and I made it a point to let them know it was mine as I walked (limped) back over to it.

The 21+3 is same for me too. Never hit it when I play it...hit it consistently when not betting it

Everyone is begging for us to get it at my casino, for my sake I hope they do not, the players don't even play BJ for the game, they play for the side bets and some of them are crazy

I may make it this year in July or Aug. We have not decided on if we were flying the kids or driving yet.
