    I didn't win. 3 winners.

I had bought $10 worth of tickets.

***I just noticed. I can't even spell powerball. No wonder I lost.

I almost won, didn't actually get any numbers but like 3 of them were only 1 or 2 off.

I never play, so I bought $50 worth -- not a single hit.

Too bad they had to split it three ways. That messes up my day dreaming a little bit.

You must have played the Power Play, with a purchase of $5 (each play is $2.) Here you will find what you won.

There was a $1.4M dollar winner who got five numbers on this last Power Ball, and the ticket was bought where I bought mine. Damn, it wasn't me. The best I ever did was win a $57k Fantasy Five a few years ago which I had to split with twelve other people. That was a nice surprise. This is from our Millionaire Makers Lottery Club which is still on-going today. A couple of years ago he e-mailed us, "I guess lightning does strike twice in the same place! We hit another Fantasy Five for $350k!" He wrote us right after that, "Look at the date I sent this." . . . It was April 1st.

    lol, yup.

500 million is have a jet on standby all the time rich.
    I don't think 175 million is.

I might have won. The news said someone in central Texas has one of the tickets. My wife told me to look. I said I will get more entertainment value out of it by waiting and hoping.

I will sometimes wait several weeks without looking at my numbers / ticket. It's all about the day dream.

    175 million ?
    *
    I don't think so ---
Here's my shot at THE MATH .....on being one of 3 winners.
    *
    550 million
divide in half ( lotto takes 50% up front )
    225 million divided 3 ways = 72 million
    Now take 30% taxes --
    I'm guessing....they took home ?......55 million ?
    *
The winner jackpot was probably posted - but I don't the time to look it up -
    Is my guess close ?
    *
    If it is ?
That's quite a difference from thinking you have a winning ticket for 550 million !!!
    just sayin'....

The cash option(which is based on interest rates and the net present value of a future stream of payments), is more like 60% of the stated amount. In this case it was closer to 325 million, divided by 3, minus taxes(which varies due to state tax levels).

The net result is a lot of money.

I looked it up and currently the cash option on the new prize of 40 million is 27 million - which is 67% of the listed prize...they're getting richer by the second!

The checks you get for the cash option in lotteries are about half of what the stated jackpot is. That accounts for 25% federal tax already taken out. Your state might take a little more.

Taxes would be close to 40% as most of the winnings would be in the higher tax bracket. Here in California there is no state tax on lottery winnings. So take-home cash value after the three-way split and taxes would be around $65M. With that money I would get a remanufactured water pump for my 1998 Ford Fiesta. I may even get a brand new water pump.
