3 Day Atlantic City visit

I usually go to Las Vegas to watch the Super Bowl but could not swing it this year. Instead I drove to AC by myself as my friend canceled at the last minute
and arrived on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon. I was able to check in at 1pm with no charge and there was no line. The room was in the front (Bally's) Tower and was very clean and comfortble. It had a large bathroom with tub/shower and 2 sinks.

I watched the first 3 quarters of the game from my room and then headed down to the casino when it looked like the Pats were not going to come back. I watched the rest of the game while sitting at a video poker game near a large monitor. I could not believe the ending, there was 1 rude Seahawk fan who was going around clapping in everyone's faces during the last 2 minutes but after the interception there were several Patriot fans who gave it back to him and he gave the finger and took off. Anyway, I ended up winning about $100 on a Bonus Poker game and spent a few more hours palying several different slot machines. Total for the first night is up $65.

The next day it was 50 and it rained until noon. Once the rain stopped, I walked the boardwalk and also walked to the Outlet store area. I didnt buy anything but I did find a nice pub for lunch called WingStop. I had a braised short rib grilled cheese sandwich for $12. IT was awesome and would go back again for it. My dinner that night was from Sack o Subs at Bally's. I love their roast beef and for $8.00 you get a good sized sandwich.

I hit the casino and again won a $100 playing Bonus poker and then tried several slots. I won $200 on my first .40 cent spin. I also won $70 on the Rolling Stones slot and while I was going up to the room, I noticed a .50 cent Wheel of Fortune Game. On my 3rd spin I hit for $150 and then a few spins later, I got to spin the wheel and won another $75. I called it a night about 3am.

Tuesday was cloudy but warm. It was about 48 but there was no breeze and some sun so I walked the Boardwalk twice with just a sweater to keep me comfortable. I love going in the t-shirt shops. I bought 3 shirts from a store called Pier 21. I always stop in on every tri as he has some unique shirts especially sports teams shirts. The owner is Todd Lovitz and is very nice. He always has some storeis to share about AC's past and current state.

I did notice there were very few people walking the boardwalk. On Monday afternoon I counted only about 10 people while walking from Ballys to Tropicana. I stopped at Trump Taj Mahal and there was no one in the place. I don't see how this place is going to survive. No players and the buffet and coffee shop were both closed. Bally's casino had some people playing and Caesar's Palace was a little busier. The Tropicana seems to be where everyone goes. The place was booming. Almost every machine is being played and it felt alive. I also visited the Marina district as I wanted to try thr Borota buffet for dinner (1/2 price for first 2 weeks of Feb). I was disappointed by the quality and lack of seafood options as there were no crab legs and only fried or peel and eat shrimp. Caesars and Harrahs offer much better buffets. The casinos at Borgata, Harrah's and Golden Nugget were quit busy though.

I know AC is not Vegas but to see this town as slow as it was is very disappointing. There are still several bargains to be had and it is still a fun place to visit. It is a 4 hour drive for me and even though Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun is an hour closer, I prefer AC.

If you haven't been there lately, I recommend taking a trip there. It is still a fun place to go.

 

Good report,glad you made a few bucks. Once the warm weather arrives I'm sure the Boardwalk will pick up,winter weekdays are slow .Taj ,who knows it's a pissing contest between Icann and the Union,meanwhile the place suffers.
I read this morning that the pending sale of the Revel to a guy named Straub may still fall thru because of the nightclub there wants to have a guarantee to open there like before after the sale because of all the money they invested.or something of that nature. Straub says no,I'm guessing he wants to make his own deal .
Just want to see them open ,,put people back to work at Revel,save jobs at Taj.

 

Congratulations on the wins and thanks for the positive, first hand account. I am a fan of AC and will pass Pennsylvania casinos on the way down the shore. I like to casino hop and enjoy the variety of dining and drinking options that are available in AC. From $3 Miller High Life drafts at the Mountain Bar to $15 Whistle Pig Manhattans at the Knife and Fork.

The pub you visited is called Wingcraft and I had lunch there during the summer, they have a great selection of craft beer. We were able to park free at the adjacent lot in front of Applebee's, Wingcraft validated parking with a purchase.

We were fans of Tropicana, but the slots seem very tight on our last couple of visits. A couple of blocks away is a Vietnamese restaurant called Little Saigon, I was just down there on a cold, windy day and had an enormous bowl of Pho, a bargain for $8.

 

Agree with passing Pennsylvania slot joints. We live about 3 miles from PARX and never go. We were Caesar's customers but since they reduced everything we go to Golden Nugget and Tropicana. Both are treating us well with comps and free play. The drive is about 75 miles for us but we go two or three times a month. AC will get better in the spring. I'm concerned with the casino closures that the remaining casinos will tighten up due to reduced competition. We used to visit the Atlantic Club and the Caesar's Empire. Good gaming to all.
