Does this sound doable?

This summer, as always my son is going to his moms in Texas for give weeks and I am thinking of going to Vegas one of those weeks. I was suppose to go last year but his grandma ended up not being able to watch him around the last minute so I had to cancel, which was a huge bummer to me since everything was paid for, then I had dog issues as well.

This year, I am living in a new Condo, no dog and will not have the kid for the first five weeks after he gets out of school. I was thinking about booking a June 8-11th trip but it would have to be a frugal one because I do have a few more bills this year BUT also a reduction in child support since my oldest turned 18 which may even out the bills (Support stops in a couple weeks then I get a real idea).

So the thinking was buy the flights out fairly soon, maybe even pay for the hotel up front on Expedia or something. Even with no trips planned I have been on myvegas daily collecting bonuses and such and have over 330,000 gold coins, so i could use those for a couple meals and a show (or a night at Mandalay Bay and skip a night at the Flamingo or Downtown which is where I would be staying to save money).

I would not gamble much, a little sure but I work in a casino, dealing Blackjack and do not think I would get the thrill from it like I use to. I know when I was in Tunica last year it was not a thrill and I got bored quickly.

I am thinking using the trip as a get away, lounge around the pool, take my good camera and get some great Vegas photos and just see what changed. I think after airfare and hotel I could possible do the four days for under $500 if I use the Myvegas to cover a couple buffets and a show.

Curious what the general thoughts are on the plan. Does it sound doable? It would be a solo trip and I usually eat only once a day and in reality if it were not for the myvegas comps I would be just fine with a burger and fries or something.

If you work in a casino and are looking for a "budget vacation", I can think of other places to go rather than Las Vegas.

I wouldn't be happy going to LV and being on a tight budget. No fun for me, but that's just me . . . .

I have never went to Vegas with more than $1100 for the four days and limited myself to less than $200 a day just for sake of having money in case I went over board. I am not a huge gambler. I went to Memphis last year and stayed the night in Tunica (our company has a property there, I got the room for next to nothing is the only reason I went) I played at the Blackjack table for a good while on a small buy in and walked away with a nice profit.

There are other places I could go cheaper, possibly even a cruise but Vegas is what I know and the place I love, which I think most of us feel that way or we would not be on this board.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Hanging out around the pool or just walking The Strip (or Downtown) are worthwhile activities that don't have to cost much money.

Job wise I am a dealer in a local casino but by nature I am a photographer. I think a trip just to get some great photos of Vegas would be fun. I could always spring for Myrtle Beach but the gas, hotel and everything would cost more I think.

Sounds like a good plan if you are just there to chill and take photographs, it's certainly doable, have fun

I don't see why not. With minimum gambling it is certainly doable. Cruising the strip taking pictures, lounging at the pool, sightseeing in a relaxed mode, meeting strangers and making new friends. Sounds like a great vacation! (Especially if you're a Vegas fanatic like all of us here.)

If you do decide to go, don't forget to submit a trip report. It's a requirement on this board.:poke: Those who violate this rule is subject to severe penalties, including a 100 page, 10,000 word report as to why a trip report was not submitted.:wink2: Don't forget o.k.? Btw, you get bonus points for pictures!

Last year I used my Myvegas rewards for buffets and really didn't have to spend much else on food. It was a solo trip so I didn't really feel like having a fancy dinner at a restaurant. I really liked Mandalay Bay's breakfast buffet. I also did Luxor once since I stayed there..it was ok. Not as bad as some people warned me about but it definately wasn't Bellagio lol.

LOL, I love your response. Did you know this is my second day on the board? LOL, Joking and being a smart ass. My last trip was in 2011 and not only did I do a live report but I did a full report when I got home. I am not a fan of live reports but I know many are. Also, i set up a twitter account before that trip so I could tweet the big happenings, which were few and far between. I will have my iPhone and a new DSLR camera I just bought with me so there will be plenty of photos for sure, that is something I am passionate about.

Awesome. Im looking at over $500 with flight and hotel but I will pay for that before hand and I think money wise, I will put aside the payments i would have been making for child support (last payment coming soon) away as well as a little extra.Id like tot make more than $500 but I want to make it a frugal trip, and I think I can do it. Even if I do gamble a bit, knowing the games will help for sure since before i never really knew much about them and relied upon others to tell me how to play.

I was thinking about staying downtown but that would defeat the whole myvegas rewards for food. I have just under 350,000 gold so am need to figure out what all I want to do since I can only use three of them.

If you don't want to gamble much I would get an American Casino guide and checkout win cards.com. You will come out way ahead on your gambling if you use their deals and then limit your gambling. Didn't read everything word for word but it sounds like a solo trip so you won't use many of the deals but there are some cheap or free shows offered in the ACG.

Rent a car, hit Red Rock, Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, museums- theres tons of very cheap or free stuff to do in and around Vegas and having a car opens up the possibilities so wide.

From what I see, all the win-cards are basically tell me how to play the game, something I already know :)

I was thinking of renting a car for a Vally of Fire trip. I was out there in 2005 and loved it and thought about it again actually.

The Win Cards also come with chips, thats probably why they were being recommended, IE: a casino might sell Win Cards for $20 where you get the "How to Play" info, but then you also get $30 in casino chips.

I went ahead and booked two nights at the Flamingo for $33 a night and thought about booking a third for $25, I may still try but it won't allow me to modify my reservation online. My last night will be a Myvegas comp at Mandalay Bay. Will have flights bought this week as well so everything will come together. I figure if I can save what I plan on, I can have $900-1000 saved, still want to spend as little as possible and make it a frugal trip.

Im hoping it is as fun as I want it to be. I bought my outbound flight and hoping for a better price on the return. This is a trip to celebrate the end of paying 17 years of child support for my oldest. Only 8 more years for my youngest.
