So I'm going to Vegas for 1 day and I have a $2,000 bankroll I'm willing to donate in exchange for comps later in the year. Which properties would give me the best teaser offers for some drop-in slot play and how much would be an appropriate amount to get a good offer (available on weekends and some freeplay)? Would I get better offers playing high limit slots? Thanks.

I know someone who did this last year at Gold Nugget. They deluged him with offers and a host handled him. It took 2 trips for them to realize that was not his regular play.

It's all about how much theo you can generate.

If you dump it in 20 min on $25 slots, you'll get nothing.

Your best bet for maximizing comps is to max rip penny slots at 3-5 dollars a pop. This does two important things. Bumps your theo up because penny slots will have a lower payback (and therefore higher theo per $1 wagered) while also lowering your variance to make sure that you get adequate coin-in.

Like Shifter said, blowing it all in ten minutes playing $25 slots isn't going to get you squat. On a penny machine you will win SOMETHING back 95% of the time. On old three reel higher denoms you can easily go 20-30 spins without winning a dime.

Ya know, I'm not sure what to think about this. I'm a hard-core MLifer but every once in a great while I mosey over to the high limit room at Caesars Palace or Ballys and drop between $500 and $1K in a $5 machine playing max (3 or 5 coins) in one (sometimes painfully quick) visit. Those visits usually result in some weekend room comp offers, some with freeplay - usually at their lower end properties. But that was before the bankruptcy and all the turmoil I've been reading about on this board so now I wouldn't trust the bastards!

I am in the camp that slot machine theo is almost if not totally based on coin in. All that hours, each machine stuff is minimal in their calculations. Plain and simple. One hour, 10 hours... still comes out about the same. Okay, maybe if you did 2 pulls on the $1,000 machine and lost on both... maybe no go. Then of course, your coin in would only be $2,000.

Myself, with a $2k bankroll would feel safe playing $1, $5 or maybe $10 machines. Risk of ruin of $10 is rather high. Playing only pennies might get lots of small wins, but it will take all your money faster than a $1 or $5 machine.

For where: I would suggest going with an MLife property. Your play could be good enough for some comps from Aria or Bellagio, but if you wanted to optimize your offers you might want to go with NYNY or Mirage, maybe MGM Grand.

You will also want to do all your play at one property, not be casino hopping around, even if it is within the same resort chain.

For what to play: Ideally you would be able to play for a long period of time - the longer you can stretch out your money means the less variance you are working with and the more money you cycle through. If you can bet around $3 per spin you should be able to stretch out your play upwards of something like 10-14 hours. That is a lot of time to be playing, but it will get you noticed.

Of course this all assumes that you were going to be playing with the $2000 in the first place. Thats where the "Don't chase comps" stuff comes in: wouldn't make sense to go and lose $2000 so that a few months from now you can come back to Las Vegas and get a $200 room free for 3 nights and $500 in free play.

Also if you play a lot on THIS trip then don't forget to stop by the player's club on THIS trip to see if you earned any additional comps.

    I blew $800 in a $10 machine in 10 minutes on Wednesday...beware...

I would probably sit at a $5 top dollar machine (2 unit machine) at either MGM or Monte Carlo...

This is solid advice. If you want to casino hop, do it between one company (MGM or CET). You may not get as big of property specific comps but you most likely will generate company wide corporate offers than you can use at any property you'd like.

Basically track how many points you earn in that day and what games you play and post them here. People have enough data points they can give you a pretty good idea about your theo and therefore what types of comps you can expect on future visits.

I might be in the minority here, but why not drop that play at the place you want the comps from? I mean Tropicana will send you much better offers for that type of action VS Wynn. But do you want the Trop bounce back? Would you rather stay at the Stratosphere where they will give you back a great Free Play offer within 30 days of action? Or take less free play but get to stay at the Bellagio?

Think I'll play $10-$25 high limit slots at the Mirage with $1k buy-in. If I have any wins $3k or more I'll stop and just use that money to pay for later trips. Otherwise, I'll just play through the $1k to get as much coin-in as possible. Thinking of using the other $1k at Wynn and playing in their daily tournament as well. Does 500 points at Wynn still get $15 at the cafe?

If you just plan to play $1k at mirage, may I suggest you take $100-$200 to HL slots and do 2-4 pulls on a $25 slot (double diamond, Top dollar, or Pinball). Take the rest to the $1 Blazing 7's, right outside of HL. You will get a lot of play for the money on the $1 Blazing 7's.

$25 machine has a high risk of ruin... meaning you can run out of money fast.

Within a percent or two most machines over a dollar have almost the same house hold. So, assuming that....
At $100 a spin, you will get 10 spins
At $25 a spin, you will get 40 spins.
At $10 a spin, you will get 100 spins
at $5 a spin you will 200 spins

Any wins along the way will of course extend your play, and your coin in which relates to theo.

If (big if), the pay table on all machines is the same, which one do you think could eat you up faster?

On a related note, it matters what the machine payout is. If it is some big massive jackpot machine, the chances of winning drop. After all, they have to collect money to pay out the big winner eventually.

Am I the only one here who wonders what the thought process is when wanting to waste $2k through machines in the hopes of getting maybe a couple hundred back at some point in the future? Just put $200 in your pocket and go have fun with the remaining money. The dumbest thing in vegas is chasing comps.

Weekend rooms at Wynn go for significantly more than $200. A 3 night stay (fri-sun) can easily cost close to $2,000. I'm doing a solo trip this time so if I can get comped rooms for later in the year with my friends while having fun this trip (and maybe even winning) why not? I'll be there tomorrow. I can post a TR.

I guess it depends on how you read/understand the OP. If he is saying he has a $2k bankroll and is planning to risk it as part of a normal trip, then it does make sense to at least get the most value for it. I donot think he is is saying his plan is to just dump it in the slots in hopes of getting comps vs. hoping to win something decent AND getting comps.

    He said
This is why I wondered about chasing comps.

What I have found is that if you are a new player somewhere and have not yet gotten a players cars at that casino/group, then you will get offers for less coin in than you will at properties at which you play often and have a history. The reason being that you have a history and they know what your average is. My HR lady at the office went into Wynn once and played for an hour then left. They have offered free nights to her via a promotion. I know she wouldn't have spent 2k there, but I do know she gambles a lot as she has free rooms available at pretty much any casino in my state and neighboring states. lol A couple years back I signed up for a players card at the local casino and lost $100. I got a comp offer for a free couple nights that I used at Bally's.
