We'll be moving back to Vegas soon, and I know that the Vegas DMVs are a real nightmare nowadays. Any suggestions on the least busy DMVs? I'll even consider a road trip to places like Pahrump or Mesquite if that cuts the wait time - we can always find something to do to justify our trip.

My friend, who's a former the head of the Nevada DMV, told me middle of the week, middle of the month and shortly before lunchtime like 11 a.m... also do as much as you can on-line or at the various DMV kiosks that are located at many convenience stores all over Clark County. They even take cash! The state paid a lot of extra money for that functionality due to all the casino employees who cash their check when they get it and pay cash for most things... not for me, but a lotta folks do it that way there.

All of the Nevada DMV's now show an approximate wait time on their website.

I always show up 30 minutes before the DMV opens to get in line. I think the longest it ever took me was about an hour to get through the process.

I've been going to the DMV on Sahara and it seems efficient. The longest wait I've had is about 30 minutes during morning hours.

Was there on Tuesday getting my license and new plates.

Signed in on smartphone from home and went to the Henderson office. Phone said 29mns when I checked in...I actually got called to the desk about 40mns after my first phone contact.

Desk time was about 20mns for both transactions, I stood in line for the picture for about 8mns and was out the door.

Just make sure you read the website for everything you have to bring plus you have to stop at the VIN station before entering the building...something that I didn't know, but my wife told me since she went through the process first.

All in all...not a bad experience at all.

Yeah the Flamingo DMV is the busiest DMV in the entire state, once waited in there for 2 hours between taking my written exam and getting the visual exam.

A friend told me the DMV in Laughlin is the fastest one around.

If you go to one in Vegas, I would NOT go before they open in the morning. The lines will be around the block. Go about 11 or 12 noon.

I don't live there, but I've been told that there are now DMV kiosks in places like AAA travel offices and such which can do most stuff.

The past 2 times- last time was a week ago- I drove down to Laughlin. For me driving the couple hours down there and back is preferable to sitting in the DMV up here for 2 hours or more. I just make a day of it. First stop at the DMV office- it's a small storefront office with 2 employees. You're in and out in 15 minutes. Then I grab a cheap lunch buffet, gamble a little, then drive back. You can even do an over night mini vacation- rooms are dirt cheap on most nights.

Just beware- the Laughlin DMV is small and doesn't have the staff to do road tests. If you need a road test you have to get it up here.

    Laughlin is Nye County, right?

I don't live in LV, but I'm curious as to how it works in Nevada regarding county and DMV stuff.

Around here (Omaha) you can get your drivers license renewed at any DMV office anywhere, but you need to do your car registration in the county in which you live.

And, many people have called me on "BS" when I've told them that there's rarely a significant line at the DMV offices here! :)

Laughlin is still in Clark County ('bout 90 miles SW of Vegas), just a whole lot less people out there, hence not much of a line.

Wow, that sucks for you guys. I'm in Ohio in a big city and never wait more than 10 minutes to either transfer a title or renew plates or renew my license.

Supposedly you can use texting to set a place in line then the automated system will update you with text messages with the number of people ahead of you and the wait time. yeah ... right. ANOTHER system set-up by the computer weenies of the word that doesn't work. Tried it today. i got the written instructions from the DMV a while ago. Texted the number as written and got a message syaing the system was down. Fine. Called the automated system that said the DMV office was closed. Drove there (flamingo near Buffalo) and physically got in line like i did before.

i don't know where you got the idea they "WILL get you out by 5 lol". They lock the doors at 5 but everyone inside at that time gets served. I got there shortly before 5 p.m., got my license and got out at around 8:30 pm.
