    My Trip Report

    Hauoli la Hanau Vegas 56th

As usual; I have no concept of sanity, apparently I was one of those "behind the door when they passed out brains" type personalities. I will digress at this point from my wives impression of my mental status. Because with all due respect to her highness, it's her fault I had to go to Vegas.
Her question to me was simple enough - "When did you want to go to Vegas?"...I could only say ..."Uh. I gots lots a work to complete on projects at various locales; being retired aint a walk in the park you know." ..."Yeah it's your birthday and you should go"..."Hows tomorrow look?"

    IMG_20150123_200157.jpg

And pretty much with that, I left for Vegas on the red eye on the 23rd. My Hauoli La Hanau (Birthday) for another run at the craps tables; VP; and general beer consumption. With all my side jobs in home improvement now put on hold, it's off to "gaming"

Luckily for me, my middle kid is now in Colorado ( a mere 10 hour drive away; yeah, right) and he would come out to hang with the old guy. (Which translates to - double my buy-ins; double my eats; double my double mint gum) I guess double beer; but he is a cocktail guy, so I'm safe there.
Preflight beer; nice flight. Land; get car at Budget (first time ever with the slight hard sell on the insurance shit) and down the strip on a traffic less morning. So the first thing is check in lose 60 bucks on VP and hit Boars Head for a beer! Next up was lose a few more liver pieces, a few more dollars, and ask on twitter who stole all MY quads?? Get a few quads; son arrives, get some 777 chow and...CRAPS TABLES time!

My nemesis and my fave. I play with the shooter on the positive side of divine light. Love Main Street & TheCal. GN and D...Ok. Golden Gate...Ok as well. Never can get a thing going at Fremont; but for sure MSS loves me. Getting on that Golden Arm Plaque is a thing I am ...shooting...for.
Popped over to The D to meet a fellow Vegas friend and really great guy Rob @skyyrocks on twitter. What fine time we had toasting and talking Family; Vegas; sports; Vegas, Beers; well you get the idea. I look forward to completing that bucket list surf request for you.
Shoot well; happy tables. Dealers bets and YO-levens hitting here and there. Good 3 Nines in a row for me and small profit. Wander Fremont. Back to Boars Head more VP and sleep. Son forays to Craps via learning Field Bet...More to come on THAT.

    Day1 action packed results-
    WIN - some
LOSE- less than some of that win
THEO - as far as I know he is the guy at the end of the bar

On day 2 we are off to the Strip to meander and do kind of whatever. Go to Wynn to have a Wasabi Bloody Mary; on way in meet and talk to a fine bartender who relegated us the entire recipe for the Wasabi Mary. A real nice guy. Lived in Maui for a while so some commonality there again. Bellagio and the rest; Cosmo; Aria...we went for around 14 miles according to the damn pedometer. Back to old Dtown for the gambling goods. Sorry....Gaming.
Killer time with Jose; Kelly and the Boars Head staff. Many beers and quads later its Craps table time again. Do well; hit some big laughs all around. Son still slowly inching into the game. Take a break for short feets up time; and back at it.

But no trip is really a trip without the fun of Wheel Of Crack, right? And as I blame his mother; he likes it too. Promises made to her sooooo gotta sit and Spin that damn wheel. Of course my 'spin' on it is to yell clap and in general cause a damn scene when that freeeekin SPINNNY comes up. Needless to say we made friends; and raised eyebrows. At the Wynn on the dollar bastard from hell thing; Im going to town and son is just kinda sittin' and watching. So I said Hey you go at it Im not getting anything...switch it up. Just then a Chinese gent comes and sits one chair down; gets a spin really quickly and we cheer him on; leery, he kind of avoids eye contact.

Quickly he gets another. Now we are REALLY cheering him. His first one is for like 40; next one 75 or something. He's starting to get into the cheering and general madness we are bringing. Son gets one he is cheering US. Another for him. 250. another 250. We are now making a ruckus. He is high fiving us and us him. When he finally cashes out in my best faux chinese imitation - "Gawd damn weal mofreeeking good time ewe guy go and have good ruck now"
It was just a fun fun time. Im part chinese; so I get to make fun of my own kind. Being part United Freekin Nations, I kinda have it all covered.

    Day 2 action totals -
WIN - Steves illegal bother from another mother
LOSS - Diginity; hair; couple quarters
    THEO - left the bar

More craps; wandering eats. Ate at the new Noodle house at TheCal good decor great foods. Korean Street Tacos were my favorite next to Ox Tail Stew or Bi Bim Bap. Decor is well done.
Monday includes wayyyyyy tooooo freeking much walking on the Strip too much time at Caesars' Craps tables for losing purposes. Boars Head / Cal for VP and feets up time.

Come around 8ish I am headed to the tables; looking pretty luke warm. Few guys; but racks look nice; lots of greens and few blacks. Dealers (most importantly) look cheerful. Buy in 400. Play play play. Hit some goodies. Others hit some too. After making a passline number, kindly fellow taps me on the shoulder and says 'Hi; I am Jason from VMB; Jose said the Hawaiian guy was over here at the craps table' Ooooops. I forgot the time; as well as it was Monday that I was going to be hanging by Boars Head on Monday round 9ish. As a great bartender, Jose directed Jason over; I threw a few more; headed over to Boars Head to have a super good time talking and shooting the Vegas stuff with Jason. Hope all that comp search paid off my friend; tip o the hat to you!!

Spent way too many beers and time at the craps table at Cal & MSS that day. But hell it was fun. Especially getting my kiddo into the game; a bit more than just the field bet. MSS dealers are the best. Always thankful for the 2 ways; and always kind words from the box. You have some class; they respond with class. Nuff said on that or I may get subpoena for depositions and shit.
New term for all the interpretive dancing going on Fremont Street with bands/DJ's and what not. "Meth Dance Party" - pretty accurate one night with 2 complete spacefreaks going at it fronting Golden Gate.

    Day 3 blood chilling totals
WIN - who wins in Vegas?
LOSS - Hearing; brain cells; (God damn that firework song damn you to hell)
THEO - he doesn't like the song either

A few good hearty breakfasts at Aloha Specialties and a great couple of sandwiches at Red Rocks Cafe ( BLTA BLT w/ Avocado (whoo hoo no expense spared) & a Bleu Cheese burger for the kid. Good food all stops FWIW. I thought all were fine.

Some of my interpretations of shit I see or recognize as what ever it may be...
Almost everyone we ran into (or over) was really nice.
Only one asshole in parking stuffs (+1)
Dealers at MSS always thanked before and after 2 way (+11)
Valets were great (+ 2 wheels)
Bathrooms in rooms at TheCal are determined to kill me. (+100 why? THEY DIDNT WIN)
Too many dealers at TheCal were grumpy.
Quite a bit of issues with mechanical shit around the Boyd Props IMHO (+2 Cents FWIW)
    LINQ is nice
Fuku Burger there (LINQ food area) under renovation so soon? Weird.
My kid follows Dads 2 way bets and made me proud when pit said "Teaching em right eh Mark?"
Thats pretty much it. lots of quads. laughs and sights seen.
    Aloha

Thanks Mark. Glad you had fun.

Will the Queen be allowing you another trip in Mar/Apr/May time? Tony and I will be there then and it would be lovely to see you again.

Such a fun read, will have to try craps downtown. Only played once after two glasses of champagne, still not sure if I won or lost or if I touched the dice.

We will certainly try to. Would love to see my favorite Vegas friends again! Hope all is well. Had a hilarious Aussie family of 8 on the flight back; daughter of about 7 had the voice of a 40 tear smoker. Family couldnt go 2 words with swearing someway or another so deciphering WHICH swear words was a blast!

Oh MomnKid - Just press as we do over here (Just press the bet; or just press the try) This trip a virgin 2 ladies rollers at the Cal hit some serious 5's over and over for me. As well as some great timed Yo elevens. I like to make a 3way yo bet with the lady rollers; I managed to miss time every one of the 3 she thre in a row; as well as the next 4 spaced apart. She threw with a friend. But all of hers were in one roll of her point. It was a riot.

    Awesome TR...Thanks!

For my birthday on Saturday I went to my local here in Halifax and DONKED off 6.5k in high limit slots ... When the wife asked if I wanted to go to the "Casino" for my birthday, I should have qualified my yes with an "IN VEGAS"!

Looks like you had a blast!

Awesome trip report.....You've gotta go up in April for the Golden Arm Tournament at the Cal.....
We've entered (they'll take anyone!) but never made it past round 1. Lots of good players downtown everywhere then.

Great report. I followed this on my Twitter account and didn't put it together (despite the same handles) that I was following you already. Skyontherocks is a great guy. Glad you had fun and hope you get back soon.

    Mark,
I'm island boy too. So....tell me your impression of Noddle Restaurant. Prices, taste, atmosphere?
Where else do you eat in Vegas that remind you of the lunch wagon food?
Actually, my sense of what's good ( talking local style ) is so out of touch that anything that resembles Hawaiian plate lunch is good to me. Have lived on mainland way to long ( since 1970). Thanks in advance.

He is a great guy. Thanks!

Not a High Roller so I thought that might get some laughs. Thanks!

It would be a pleasure! Im the idiot in a hat with a smile!

    My joy!

Noodle house is well done ; food is quite good. portions are fine prices a bit higher for Dtown but the decor and service arre great. Better quality than lunch wagon by far.

Fuku Burger by the LINQ and truck on East Fremont on Fridays is really worth it. Thanks again!

Bruddahs is suppose to be killer too.
