Trying to decide if my wife and I should use our cruise voucher offers for our trip to vegas in a couple weeks. Calling the number on the offer doesn't help as they don't know.

    Is it for 7 nights?

Can I use it for any NCL cruise?

    Alaska?

    Thanks,

I did one last year. There is a good variety to pick from. Most are 7 days and Alaska was one of the destination choices. Just pay port fees and taxes.

I picked up mine last year and ended up just letting it expire. Airfare to get where the cruise's leave from would have ran me about $700-$800 for the 2 of us. I was going to take my 1 year old but I would have to pay to add her to the room. About another $400 for the trip. Add in the port fees, taxes, the cost of getting to and from the boat from the airport and I just didnt have the almost $2K to spend on my free trip.

Most people that take these trip will tell you to fly out the day before to avoid any delays at the airport or traffic. The boat wont wait for you. So add in another couple hundred for a hotel. Being from the Midwest there just wasnt much I could do.

As for the list, they gave me a list of about 20 cruises. You could call and pay to upgrade to another, newer boat, or route if you want to pay.

In addition to port fees and taxes they hit you with an NCF fee between $175 and $200. I was able to call Casinos at sea and get a cheaper total cost than what it would have cost me with my free cruise voucher. I got mine from Harrah's Cherokee, so the Vegas deal might be better.

It was for a 7 day cruise for two. We had our choice of 4 different ports to leave from. We used it in November. Yes, you do have to pay for your expenses on the cruise, it's just the cruise and meals that's free.

Thanks, I found my wife's brouchure but still havn't found mine. Looks like several ports to choose from. Understand we have to pay for tax and fees and any extras.

I picked up a free cruise for 2 people voucher in sept 2014, I'm using it may 3-10, from Barcelona, to France, Italy and back to Barcelona. It's 7 days, It's costing 225.00 guest fare + 110.68 Gov tax and port fees = 335.00 I'm going solo. but I'm getting a on-board ship credit of 154.66 so overall a decent price for a floating hotel with free food. I guess casino guests get a free drinks card for the casino as well. There's a 12.00 tip added per day as well. I thought it would be a great way see some of Europe without getting broke on hotel rooms. So I'm booking 2.5 weeks besides that in Europe. Feb 5-10 I'm going to Vegas to pick up another voucher as well.

Once you have sailed and played in the onboard casino, you might get the same/or better deal by calling their casino department direct. That is, if you donated enough while onboard of course. If you have not sailed that particular cruiseline, getting the certificate to cover the base fare is the way to go.

Did you book with Casino as Sea rep or normal NCL rep?

Also, do you know if you can use the voucher toward a different cruise if you are willing to pay additional? Don't remember Europe cruises on the brouchure I got.

    Thanks,

You have to book all certs through the CAS folks. The number of some certificates goes to a different section that only handles those, vs people that have previously cruised with NCL and may be rated. Most vouchers are only good for the designated dates/ships. The most common cruises offered are from Florida based on my experience, then New Orleans and MAYBE Alaska or New England. Sometimes Europe - probably more often now as EPIC is moving their fulltime.

I have seen some offers with small print that say something like "only one booking per family or residence" or something like that. We were about to use one from my wife and one for me to take our son/wife on a cruise. I went in and changed my wife's home address just in case.

Thanks for the heads up, I didn't go through the small print. I will do the same on my wife's. We are planning 4 cabins for the trip so getting the extra voucher will be helpful on costs. My host didn't mention it and he is quite an NCL cruiser.

Yes, I always looked at these vouchers for free cruises as effectively 50% off when all is said and done. So, I go in with that attitude and I feel a little better at the end of the day.

Thanks for that. I understand the cost for taxes, fees, airfare etc. but with getting 4 cabins for the cruise, every little bit helps. Fortunately one of my son has a voucher. Wish I had played on my other sons card enough to get the voucher but never thought about going on a cruise.

When we get back from this Feb trip with the voucher certificates, i will do the math on voucher versus sales and casino on the sea rates. Still going on the cruise as it is a big birthday for me.

Yesterday I booked the NCL Getaway in July with my voucher for 2 free cruises from Harrah's Joliet. $675 for 2 ($190 fare, $118 taxes and fees and $29 insurance x 2) but added my 10 year old ( $699 fare, $118 tax and $89 insurance for the kid) so it came out to $1582 for the 3 of us in a Deck 13 inner cabin. Booking myself would have been at least $2800.

    Scubastever-

You should call back in a few days (February), when Norwegian starts a "Kids sail free" promotion, to get your $699 back.

This is what a helpful NCL rep told me yesterday...
