Since I don't care and don't plan on playing there...here's the location of the machines with the highest theo; with 9/6 JoB on them.
Location is circled, a pair of upright GameKings.

How is the theo on those machines higher than the 10/7 DB machines?

Why do you think the 10/7 machines say "These machines earn points at the rate of $3 per 1 point" ?
Obviously, 10/7 is 100% payback, and JoB is 99.5%...but a lot of other factors play into it...

What's the normal coin in per point? I'm not much of a Boyd player. But I'm looking to hit up MSS in a couple of weeks.

Are the theo of these higher than the Boar's Head Bar? Those earn full points too. Were you getting better mailers playing these vs the bar? What other crap games are on these units? Or do you think they were just set higher than the rest?

In vegas, one dollar per point for VP. In Tunica, 60 cents. In Indiana 50 cents. Dunno about anywhere else.

There are 99.92% Triple Deuces Wild machines that give full points... What exactly is the magic of those 2 game kings?

If the mailers on those 9/6 JoB games are way better than the 10/7 DB units, this may not be necessarily true. Those 9/6 JoB units could be set to 1%+ bounceback thanks to things like shitty keno games set on the machine. Problem is, it's a trial and error game to figure that part out.

Fascinating. We've played those pair of machines several times. We dubbed the woman on the stained glass window next to the machines "Our Lady of VP".

Our experience on those two 9/6 JOB uprights (north-end wall) has never been positive. I don't know what it is, but during our 3 or 4 trips each year at MSS, we always give some play on those two machines, and have never had any success. We go back to the 8/5 Bonus machines (99.17%), and always do better.

Interesting. I'm staying at MSS March 18-20th on a 2 night comp. I'm gonna make it a point to hit those 2 machines. I usually play at or near the bar.

I will certainly concur that other factors could be at play. My statement was based just on the expected value of the games combined with the normal point system. Multipliers such as 5X make it much closer and then the mailers generated from those two machines would put it over the top. The improved mailers themselves could make it better. I wish there was a better way to determine it other than the "trial and error" game which I agree that it is.

In video poker it's not the odds that get you, it's the variance. Variance for JOB is sky high, but DB, DDB. and TB are progressively worse.

In any video poker game, you can't expect to see anything close to the odds return without playing long enough to get your share of royals. Since you can only expect to see one royal a week with 8 hours/day play, it's easy to see that it takes hundreds of thousands of hands to see anything close to the odds return. Most players go broke after only an hour or two of play. You can calculate that for various video poker games with a risk of ruin calculator.

    Theoretical return, I think.

Hey I am staying Downtown March 18th-20th too...I am staying at Golden Gate but I spend a lot of time at the Boars Head Bar...especially with the tournament going on. Look for me at 9:00 am, pint of beer in front of me, playing JoB and watching basketball...

In this context, "THEO" is short for "theoretical loss". The casino assigns a theoretical loss rate to each game in the casino. Taking 9/6 JoB as an example, the THEO rate might be assigned as 1% or 2%, since the casino knows very few people will play perfectly to attain the 99.54% theoretical long-term return. Apparently, some casinos also take the skill of certain players into account, assigning different THEOs to different players playing the same game. In any case, a THEO calculation might work like this:

    ($10,000 coin-in) x (0.02) x (0.30) = $60 in comps

That is, $10,000 times the 2% THEO rate gives $200 theoretical loss. The casino might figure available comps at 30% of the theoretical loss, or $60.

In the case of MSS, I suspect they assign about a 0.5% THEO rate to the 9/6 JoB, since I was told that I needed about triple the coin-in I put in over 3 nights to comp a $45 room night. This would have equated to about $27K coin in.

I think mailer levels work differently than what I have described here.

Comments welcome to correct or clarify what I've put here. Admittedly, I'm not an authority on this.

Machines keep track of the coin-in and coin-out. They KNOW the theo of each machine (or bank) over time. The more money they make on a machine or bank of machines the higher the theo.
