ESPN announced that Stuart Scott has passed at age 49. He had battled cancer since 2007.

I made a post on my Facebook page, and I will say this....

Its amazing the kind of support and love he had for his work on and off the field... He fought cancer more than one time, and its amazing how much support he had from his work colleagues to his friends... The guy loved his family and it showed at this years past
recognition for him on the life time preservation award....

He was definitely one of a kind and will be missed

I knew when they had that tribute to him and how upset everyone was that he wasn't long for this world. Very sad.

Stu was cooler than the other side of the pillow.

    Rest in peace.

I got up this AM and flipped on the TV right when they started playing the obituary so I immediately thought he passed away...checked Twitter and saw the news.

Chess makes a great point - the amount of respect and love shown to him not only from his colleagues but athletes he covered and many others chimed in. The tribute they ran was 15 minutes long and I teared up a couple times - especially when they showed his ESPY's speech and he asked his daughter to come on stage to give him a hug.

Rich Eisen's tribute on NFLN was touching as well.

I enjoyed watching Stu over the years and teared up during the tribute. His speech at the ESPY's was a throwback to Jimmy Valvano's, who I also admired. Both Stu and Jimmy V. died way too young.

Jimmy V's speech was an all timer...I have watched it probably a hundred times.

Stu was a class act and revolutionized ESPN and the sportscasting business. He was able to bring in a new generation to sports highlights and will be missed. Stu was "cool as the other side of the pillow!"

Very sad news. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Stu the last 20 years on SportsCenter. I was lucky enough to meet him last year in Vegas at The Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf outing. He will definitely be missed.

Cool stuff, Matty - thanks for sharing the pic.

I have a buddy who works at ESPN and he said everyone from the PAs to the suits are crushed by his death. He was revered in Bristol and he told me that Stu was nice as hell to everyone he met.

    His ESPY speech was profound.

Never had much of an opinion on his "style" but from what I understand he was very dedicated to his daughters for that I am sad.
