Making my fifteenth trip to Vegas next week! One thing I've never done: ordered a picky mixed drink from a cocktail waitress. Is it classless to order, say, a Manhattan on the rocks or "vodka martini stirred with stoli?"

Are the CWs actually going to a bartender to fulfill the orders or are they quickly assembling the drinks themselves?

    Playing ~$25 min tables.

It's not unclassy if you hand her a five dollar bill while ordering. That should get you what you want if its possible.

The only potential sticking point is the alcohol you choose. If you want something expensive (as determined by the casino, not the player) they may not comp it. I've seen guys playing black chips after a $3000 cash buy-in and the pit only comped one pack of $12 cigarettes, they had to buy the other.

On the other side, like Flusher says, I've played smaller limits and had some expensive alcohol comped because I tip very, very well.

Order whatever you want. Bartenders make the drinks. Cocktail waitresses deliver them.

If thats what you want you should just ask for it - the worst she will do is say they don't have that or its not available or not at your bet level.

It depends on the property: they may have a bartender in back mixing drinks or might go to one of the bars in the casino to fill your order.

Generous tipping usually gets the job done.i usually tip a red chip for a mixed drink and have never been told no.
The only place that has a weird policy outside of Las Vegas is the Borgata in AC.
They will gladly comp a Grey Goose but charge you for RedBull or at least take it off your "comp dollars"

For mixed drinks, the quality depends on the casino. The higher end casinos will usually make your drink with the named booze of your choice. With others, they will use the well liquor. Usually a lower quality liquor. I agree with the others, a good tip goes a long way in getting a high-quality mixed drink.

This thread has got me thinking. If you're at a nice casino, tip well, and ask for a high-quality mixed drink, does the cocktail waitress simply tell the bartender to make a drink with the requested top-shelf liquor? What if you were at the same casino and didn't tip well: does the bartender make whatever drink the waitress specifies?

I'll use MGM as an example here and say that when I used to play out on the main floor I always received the best drinks with a an upfront red chip to the CW. When I asked them which of the JW's they could bring out on the floor their response was "whichever one that you want" ... to which I usually took it easy on them and ordered JW gold. I also had them bring me a continuous stream of CR special reserve after I primed the CW with an initial red chip.

The red chip up front when ordering has always worked for me everywhere.

I'm a high Platinum player at MGM and was sat at the bar near the front of the casino at Monte Carlo. Dropped a $100 bill into the machine and started playing $1 video poker. Asked the bartender for a Maker's Mark Manhattan. He made me one, asked me for $14 for it! I said look at how much I'm playing! He said he couldn't comp those to anyone. I gave him $15, cashed out.

    Cheap ass.

I think it's up to the individual casinos policy. I've had MM Manhattans elsewhere without issue.

Oh, by the way. The well drink alcohol at some of the casinos comes in drums labeled "gin flavored alcohol", "rum flavored alcohol" etc. according to one bartender friend at the Orleans. Not accusing the Orleans but some of the casinos refill the cheap bottles with that crap I guess. Maybe he was full of crap?

I order double (and tall) Don Julios with Red Bull. A few times in Vegas they've had to find Red Bull for me, but I've never had trouble getting what I want. FWIW, I typically tip $25 per order and they come as fast as I can drink them. I give them same amount if there is one or two drinks being brought just for me or a few for my friends and me.

Yikes, good to know they sweat MM at the Monte. MM is my go-to at Cosmo because I know it's a decent middle of the road liquor. I tried for a Bulleit Old Fashioned at Book & Stage but was politely informed that they could do Maker's instead.

That's what we like about playing the slots at Palazzo. Drinks2You lets you order specific mixed drinks right from the machine. I must say the Lemon Drop, Cosmopolitan and Mai Tais are quite tasty. But by midevening I stop all the foolishness and just have them bring a generous pour of Jack Daniels, neat.
