The new resort fee structure of CET is going to drive me away from CET. That being said Boyd isn't a whole lot better. Though I'm not familiar with MGM I'm sure they will do what's necessary to keep the coffers the way they want them. That said the one that gives me the best deal gets the business. If, they were to give one a credit ($20-5 per day) for food / drink or whatever the resort fee would be more tolerable.

My formula, Vegas or anywhere, is rather basic:

What type of hotel/services/amenities I want, what locational needs I have, if any, then factor in loyalty incentives and finally, look at the cost ... total, out the door, no matter how they might itemize it. Then I compare any like-situated properties based on those final costs.

One day these dummy casinos will learn that resort fees are just bad PR. I wish they would either build it into the price of the room or call it something else if they want to be able to charge something on comp rooms. When they pretend it's for services like crap WiFi etc. and you have to pay it whether you use the crap or not it just annoys people. That being said, they are just a poorly named charge for the room. If you don't like it, don't stay there.

Sadly, too many folks get over emotional about these damned fees.

There are folks that will pay $50 more a night for a room just to avoid them. Yea, they suck. Be smart enough to include them as part of YOUR cost. Then pick the hotel/casino you prefer to stay at.

    Really is simple stuff.

I just include it as part of the cost of my hotel, they are pretty much everywhere now but it doesn't have any real input into where I stay.

It may be a multiple thread in recent time. I look at it (resort fees) to a great degree as being like 6:5 blackjack; float it out there and if nothing really changes other than the bottom line then stick with it. Like many others have said on other forums; time causes change in both policy and customer. Some customers think 6:5 is the norm. Some think 2x on the 12 is the norm (if that is where they play).

If you don't know the difference from past applications, then it is the norm. If you see the changes over the timeframe, accept it or change course. Continued discussion on the board may relieve some frustration and inform "newbies" of the various policies but true change from the public only comes with voting with your wallet and hoping others follow your lead.

Ultimately you need to select the properties you are comfortable paying the bottom line and not let the details ruin your trip. It is your earned time---don't blow it before you go.

I haven't paid a resort fee my last 2 trips...but I don't think they would really deter me from a hotel.

I would just add it in to the cost of the hotel as others have mentioned.

The fees don't effect me because I only look at third party websites to get prices then book directly through the hotel site. Resort fees have really taken hold in the three biggest tourist markets: Vegas, Orlando and Hawaii I wonder why they aren't as common elsewhere?

We've had them all over -- Mexico, Whistler, Vancouver, Scottsdale, Tucson, Banff, Palm Springs, LA, SF, Sonoma ... to name some.

Never really depends on one particular item.
It all comes down to what is included in the total package.

I look at it like Ken does - what's my out the door cost?

Hotels all over the world add fees in. I was in Lima Peru last month and my hotel there had a daily service charge plus a 10% fee on the total. Many places here in the US like to add in the valet parking for locations where parking is at a premium. I put my mom and sister up at a place in San Antonio once and they charged something like $40 per night for parking.

I do hate the fact that the hotels itemize them separately. If they rolled them into the nightly rate they'd save themselves a lot of bad PR. Same as with the airlines and their fees.

I also look at total "out the door" cost. I'm a cheapskate and only use the room for a few hours of sleep, a shower, and the toilet.

Exactly people, look at the final cost of the room including all fees and taxes and decide where you want to stay. If one hotel is $20 a night with a $20 per night resort fee, look at is $40. If the next hotel is $45 a night with no resort fee, it will cost you more to stay there even though they don't have a resort fee.

Agreed. For my trip next year (number 15) I have, for the first time, added in the resort fee when calculating and comparing my prices. Because I am travelling a long way (from the UK) and therefore staying for a long time (normally 14 nights) the resort fee can really add up so makes sense to compare all in costs.

Don't read this bit if you don't want to read the moan you will have read a thousand times.

It's not really the cost that bothers me per se, it is the fact it just all feels so underhanded, the inclusion of spurious benefits really winds me up. I'll never use the fitness centre, the wifi that is included is free in the lobby, casino etc. I know why they do it and to be honest if I was only in town for 3-4 days I'd just pay up but for 2 weeks it just seems like a bit much - would even be OK with them capping it at e.g 5 nights but they won;t and never will (sorry for the moan)

My out the door cost is going from zero to $100+tax assuming a four night trip. In return I am getting an increasingly crappier casino experience and "WiFi" assuming I stay with CET. So yeah, it's impacting my decisions where I stay and even if I come to Vegas with airfares being what they are. In other casino markets, Wifi is free, there is coffee in the room and no fees with generally a better service experience even if the gaming isn't better.

Planning to try out the Super 8 at Ellis Island next trip (just for one night). Spend a bit of time at Ellis anyway, handy for centre strip and no fees. Gotta be worth a punt, bet the WiFi is decent too, with it being small and all.
