Also what factors do you consider when deciding how much to tip?

1 - A percentage on ANY jackpot is illogical. They work involved to get your cash is marginally equal.

2 - They are still getting paid an hourly wage, just like the cage person, the guy cleaning the back, the guy watching the video monitors, the pit admin person, the person cleaning the machines or the floor, the security guy standing by watch table awaiting payment, the dealer, the pit critter, the cocktail waitress that finally came to offer you a drink, etc. etc.

3 - NOBODY there was around handing me money when I lost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Nobody!

4 - There will be a half dozen people involved in "processing" your payment.

Once you have thought through all that, you may be in a good mood and want to give away some money to somebody. Who would you give YOUR money to, and why?

(edited to reflect a table game vs slot machine - but similar logic applies)

I'm not sure why the dealers feel obligated to a percentage of our wins but not our losses. I might tip the dealer, $100 and the CW $50 but that's about it. If I had $150 hanging around. I too would take a check, color up and haul out of there. I'd use some of the money to get a new cell phone and ditch the old one so I wouldn't be harassed by hosts trying to get their money back.

Do you have the stones to walk away? In 2008 I bought a $10 scratch ticket in Massachusetts that paid $50,000. After visiting the lottery office in Braintree, MA I walked out with a check for $35,000. I haven't purchased a scratch ticket for myself since. It was a 1:1,000,000 chance.

Dealers would still love for you to tip when you lose. It's just more common for people to tip when they win because many people still care whether they win or lose the money they gamble. I don't play table games a lot, but I still usually tip something even when losing.

Without reading the thread, I would tip $10,000 and whatever BOGO coupons I had in my wallet at the time. The Gordie Howe hockey card stays with me though.

I would be pretty generous. When I am on vacation I'm pretty loose with my money and like to have a good time and spoil the people that go with me. A million dollars? Man....I'd be on cloud nine!

Maybe 20 - 30 grand, dont think I'd go to 5%. If the dealer was a jerk before the win, nothing.

I'm with you Flusher, $10K. Regardless of the win, I never tip a percentage. If I'm have a particularly lucky day, I may tip more, less if I've lost more that day.

I have a feeling the would bring me a novelty check for 1 million for the photo then I would find I get a 25 year annuity for 40k minus 30 percent withholding. So I end up with an actual check for 28k. At which point I would probably just throw a hundred to the dealer because I would feel so jipped.

The Three-Card-Poker $1M jackpot gets paid all at once minus 25 percent for federal tax withholding. The person who won at PH last July was given 30 $25k chips. He was escorted by security to the casino cage where they gave him a check. I don't know how much of it he took in cash, and how much he had put on the check.

The sole purpose of any business is to make money from you. They take more money from you than what they paid for the product they are selling, including what it takes to pay people who work for them. The restaurant server, cab driver, bellhop, valet, etc. are all paid a wage, but I personally feel like I should tip them. And there are many people who are involved in delivering that service. People tip food servers based on a percentage of the bill.

Sometimes I feel that their wages are based on the knowledge that they will receive tips. In fact cocktail waitress incomes are automatically adjusted on their W2G to assume a tip for every drink they deliver (don't know the details of how this works). But if I tip people who give me service, it is easier for me to tip them when I win money because I'm still getting money. I usually tip around 1 to 2 percent on a big win. I tip restaurant servers close to 20 percent.

In many other countries tips aren't the norm as it is in the U.S. Tips may be one way that decrease the liabilities on the proprietor.

I would Prob clear 600k or so after state and federal taxes. I would go to ralphs or whatever market Las Vegas has and get a 5k gift card and give it to the dealer. I would also gift my host h at least 7k maybe more.

I would tip a 50 cent piece or give them a slot machine ticket worth about 72 cents. :poke:

If I were at Cosmo, I would give my host a slap in the ass.

Not out of "obligation" and I've been guilty of forgetting to tip dealers. I think I'd do $100 each to the dealer and cocktail waitress.

What pisses me off most about tipping arguments/discussions

Its not that they dont tip me when I lose or anything like that. Its that if you won a big one, and tipped "only" $100, they would label you as a cheap ass and wouldn't be greatful that they got anything. They would see it as an insult, and would say "I rather they give me nothing than a tiny tip"

I deal with the same thing at work, people would rather get no raise than a small one...they say its insulting to get such a small raise. Makes no sense to me

I agree that $1000-2000 would be appropriate. I'm superstitious and believe that "passing the luck" around is helpful.

I ALWAYS tip on a handpay jackpot. If I'm losing, it may only be $20 each (for the two slot attendants that pay me off). Maybe an extra $5 to the cocktail waitress.

I should have thrown this out to begin with...................

If it was at a casino that I don't frequent and don't know the dealers, I think I would probably tip $10,000.

I am in Vegas a lot and know many dealers and floormen/women. I also have favorite cocktail servers.
So, if it happened at my home casino, I would probably still tip $10,000 into the pool, but I would like to directly tip some of my regular dealers etc.
Who would ever know if I ran into a dealer "off property".
My regular dealers are fantastic and enhance my casino experience.
