For the comp players - don't you get your resorts fees comped off?

I see a lot of complaints about "resort fees this" and "resort fees that". In the last 3 years, I have never paid a resort fee on a comped room.

Just curious.

 

Every time I'm there for fun I do.

But when I'm there on business, which is most of my ten weeks a year in Las Vegas, the company expects the resort fee to be in my expense account as well as the nightly room fee.

Must not mix gambling with business.....

 

I think it depends on the comp. I recall paying a resort fee at Monte Carlo years ago on a comped room.

 

I only got stuck with resort fees once on a comped room and I had enough ECs (Mlife) to cover it. Didn't like doing that, but it was better than out of pocket. The next time I stayed at that place, Monte Carlo, they did not charge resort fee (nor has any other place on a comped room).

 

Never have paid a resort fee.

 

My comped rooms at Wynncore, Cosmo, Palms and Tropicana always are exempt from resort fees. I understand Caesars has started charging resort fees on comped rooms for anything below Diamond. I haven't stayed at an MGM property for a couple of years so haven't kept up on their policy.

So it appears they are changing it...or my comp level has dropped...

 

I've never been charged a resort fee. At CET, Diamond and 7 stars are not charged a resort fee. As a Diamond, you don't get wifi that is included for others in the resort fee.

 

I believe I've paid the resort fee on a comp at Palazzo. I haven't had to at CZR's but I think that it depends on your status with them rather than you being there on a 'comp'.

 

I think that this may have been brought up with all the recent chat about CET and the resort fee change.

I had a trip earlier this year to CET where I came in with a comp when I was gold, so the reservation was made under paying the resort fee attached. Within a few hours of arrival, I made platinum and continued to play over 3 days. At checkout, I went to the hosts, first time ever, and asked since I had hit Plat (no resort fee) before even my first night, would they consider removing the fee. The host said once it's attached to a folio is could not be removed, but they could review my play. They reviewed my play, and applied my resort credits (I had some dining charged to room, plus the nights of the resort fee etc) and the balance after was $27, of which they said they couldn't do anything about and set me out to pay the bill in the plat line-up.

I was surprised my play couldn't even cover $27, so I did eventually reach out to Hunter. He was absolutely fantastic to take the time for reviewing things and ultimately was able to help me out. HUGE thanks to Hunter for doing that.

The issue for me, is that CET doesn't always seem to work under a guideline, your play generated X, and so you get Y......it's a matter of who you talk to. Unfortunately for me, I don't know my THEO, and all the complex calculations to know when/if I'm being under comped etc......but I have a pretty good idea when it happens though. Hardly equipped to challenge a host to question on what basis the $27 couldn't be covered if you know what I mean.

Now I have a bit of a go forward concern with CET. I'm okay if a casino doesn't want to front end my comps, so long as my play is fairly considered on back-end. Or, I'm okay if they don't back end my comps so long as I see an upswing in front loaded future comps as they come in.

I split my play between Cosmo and CET. My last trip, I used the envelope system, but didn't pay any regard WHERE I incurred my losses for the day. At the end of my last trip my Cosmo Host comped off the back based on THEO, which was high......but my actual loss was nearly zero. I just got my Cosmo offer, and the free play dropped by more than half, but they extended my nights. Turns out, I was winning at Cosmo and walking across the street losing it at CET....likely about a 3K - 4K loss for the 3 days there. I only used RC's at CET, didn't ask for anything back end. My expectation was that what I lost in offers at Cosmo should be picked up at CET, but unfortunately I'm hardly seeing any change at all on my offers, and now I'm Diamond at CET to boot. I know their systems can take a few months to pick up the play, but I'm suspecting that it's not happening. That play listed above happened in September, and so far my CET offers are free room and max $250 free play for January.

I really enjoy the CET properties, I do want to maintain a relationship with them, but, I'm not willing to forgo hundred's or thousands longterm in comps for me to maintain that with them. Hunter is doing a great service for the company in what he's doing for all of us, but, it can't be run as a one man show. I am seriously conflicted in what to do with my play on upcoming trips. I wish the comp system was more transparent, at least in that if you earn it, you get it. If you don't earn it, you don't get it. I can respect that.....but I'm not convinced that is how things are going now.

So, my long winded answer to "can you get it comped off the back" - I think it first depends on WHO you talk to, and secondary is that you have the play to cover it.

 

I've never payed a resort fee in all the years I have been going to Vegas on a comp.
I think one time I had MGM try to stick me with one on a two night offer at NYNY, where it was not stated in the offer, so I threatened to walk and they waived it.

 

All offers I ever received from Mlife for comped nights, the resort fee was not included. I never really made an issue about it but maybe I should have. In some cases they waved the resort fee, at other times I had to pay the resort fee with Express Comps. We had platinum status at Mlife so you would expect our play would be enough to wave the resort fee. Never paid a resort fee at the Tropicana and never had to pay the resort fee at Mirage either. So I guess the answer is maybe yes, maybe no

 

This past week, no resort fees on comp rooms at Palazzo and Wynn.

 

Last year, when I was very low Gold, my room was comped at Harrah's but I still had to pay the resort fee. I complained to the host office and was told I didn't play enough to have the resort fees taken off and I that I should just use my RC points to cover the charges.

Didn't have enough RC points either lol so I ended up having to pay the daily resort fees.

This year I decided to gamble more and was Diamond when I checked out, so all resort charges were waved.

However. I would have come out better paying $25 a night for resort fees instead of losing 6 Grand in their tight ass slots!

 

You are right. If folks do not play enough to get it comped, then they should not get it comped. This is a real dollars and cents/sense business. Simple stuff.

 

I don't know if it's that cut and dry. I believe, with many players, they just charge the resort fee on a comped room and as long as the customer doesn't complain about it, they will be happy to receive it. BUT, as soon as a player of some importance complaines about the resort fee they will wave it, just to give the customer the feeling "they won" and to make sure they will come back because the resort "worked hard" to keep them satisfied.

When there is more transparency to how the comps are calculated and applied, I'll believe otherwise.
There's nothing comp about comps, to me they are really a rebate that increases on increased level of play. I can appreciate they likely take from where they can to give extra to higher value players. Makes sense - any company discounts with larger volume.

 

Fully comped rooms at CET hotels for any room except for suites.up to 5 days. for at least the last 5-7 years. No fees yet. I'm no whale. Since TR I've always been Plat after the first year. Never Dia.

 

We've had to pay resort fees on comp rooms at Cosmo and Aria. Never at a CET property.

 

Please report back after your next CET stay. Until recently, CET did not charge a resort fee for platinum,Diamond and seven stars. My understanding is that platinum players will now be charged the resort fee. I'm talking about an upfront charge. Clearly, fairly minimal play will get the charge waived on the back end.
Also, CET send out coupons to give away for 2 nights free stay. I believe the coupons specify that a resort fee is charged on the room comp.
